I'm the disciplinarian. Been brought up that way. My parents brook no nonsense, and I got a whipping for everything. So if my cats did something minor I dont care. If they do something bad, I scream at them. No misbehaving cats allowed. They're telling me they don't want to live inside where it's nice, warm, dry, safe, with lots of food. They're telling me they want to live outside in the snow, mountain lions, and catch their own food. They're telling me they want to rough it in the freezing cold and snow and winds.

Animals are just being animals. If they destroy things when unsupervised, then contain them and give them something to do when they have to be left alone. I agree..... give them a happy life. If a pet owner isn't bright enough to animal-proof things, the same way we child-proof things, then maybe they shouldn't have pets.....until they get proper pet-training😂

Right but they will eventually put the act that they do and the owner being mad together and they stop doing it simply because they don't want to upset their owner. I think you are correct. And understanding that can make training a lot easier.

Apparantly you've never come home and noticed that the dog that's normally waiting by the door to greet you like you're a celebrity is suddundly nowhere to be seen and there's a mess or chewed item or somthing else amiss before you even say a word.

I adopted my dog from a shelter when he was between 1-3 years old. Of course he’d do the usual excited greeting at the door whenever I got home, then he’d follow me to the kitchen door to be let out. One day I came home to the usual happy greeting, but when I got to the kitchen I saw he’d done a messy poop. It wasn’t normal so I thought he must be sick, I was concerned, not angry. When I turned to him I realized he hadn’t followed me, he’d gone into the living room. I went looking for him and he approached with his head down and a subdued tail wag. I very much think he expected me to be upset, even though I had never been mad at him before. I think we’ve assumed a lot about dogs that isn’t true.
