We took our puppies to Mexico. It was our first long haul flight.
But most importantly first time taking them out of the EU. So there were many requirements to comply with for the entry. And we missed one of them!
Sometimes even a quadruple check is not enough! When traveling abroad always make sure to have everything in order, so you do not have to get into this situation.
And if anything like this happens, just try to stay calm and find a solution.
In our case, we were missing an external deparasitation stamp which is mandatory. (Even though our dogs were free of external parasites)
Fortunately after some discussions, we were allowed to get this from a local veterinarian. The animal control officers called one for us and he came after about 45 minutes. He sprayed our puppies with a parasite treatment solution, gave us the required documents and a stamp and we could proceed to enter the country. Luckily it was not such a big issue in the end, and cost "only 40USD".
But the stress about missing some requirements and the additional time at the airport - after more than 10 hours in a plane was a lot. Especially since we knew, Xanti and Yumi already needed to relief themselves as they were without peeting some 14 hours.
All in all, our first long haul flight had everythin.
