I agree, to me that’s now the only Dr. Seuss cartoon special that I like now (next to the original book). The other ones that were made into specials, I mainly like and prefer the original books (well mainly the ones on the your favourite Seuss treasury book along with Horton hatches the egg). I also like both the live action movies of how the grinch stole Christmas and the cat in the hat (with Jim Carrey and Mike Myers, I don’t care what people say about the Mike Myers one) mostly because I find those three (counting the cartoon special of grinch) of Dr. Seuss nostalgic for me.
While I could agree that Illumination’s Grinch and Lorax are kind of weak, I also like Horton Hears A Who, and Jim Carrey’s version of the Grinch could be a guilty pleasure, but Mike Myers’s version of Cat in the Hat definitely isn’t good at all. He did better as Shrek.
Of all Dr. Seuss adaptions, my favourites are the live action cat in the hat movie, how the grinch stole Christmas cartoon special, and live action how the grinch stole Christmas movie. While also liking the Dr Seuss books and to think that I saw it on Mulberry street, Horton hatches the egg, McElligot’s pool, if I ran the zoo, Horton hears a who, the cat in the hat, how the grinch stole Christmas, Yertle the turtle (just the main story), happy birthday to you, green eggs and ham, the sneetches (just the main story), Dr. Seuss’ sleep book, the Lorax and oh the places you’ll go just because all of them except Horton hatches the egg have been in a treasury book called your favourite Seuss.
I have How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) , How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), The Cat in the Hat (2003) , Horton Hears a Who (2008) and The Lorax (2012) on DVD
