I purchased one of their perfume lockets. A drop on a piece of cloth placed in the locket lasts FOREVER. It never goes away. Great way to make it last & I can’t resist smelling the locket throughout the day. My favorite is Fenris Wolf. ♥️

I’ve seen your perfume collection tour video and was intrigued but these oils so I was hoping you have a full video describing these wonderful scents, and here it is! They sound amazing and I appreciate that you speak of these brands that aren’t your normal “sauvage” and all the rest that the perfume community is full of! Might start collecting these as well, so my wallet doesn’t really appreciate your video😅😅😅 but I do!

You come off as the opposite of 'so mean' :). The greatest stealthy little giveaway was when someone asked you about fragrances you cannot enjoy if they remind you of someone you despise (or have known in the past and despised). Your eyes rolled slowly to the ceiling as you contemplated your answer and you replied, 'I don't know...I don't really dislike many people' and then just casually kept on talking. That's not a 'mean' or even a 'low key mean' person at all. It's the little clues like this which I pick up on. Love your channel. As if you didn't know ;)

Your videos got me into BPAL years ago, along with Zoologist they're exactly my type of scents and I'm so glad to know about them :) This makes me want to go dig out my little collection again. Tom!!! Amazing review of the company! I have been watching you for a few years now and I value your opinion. Since you have sampled over 400 of their scents...Do they have a honey and incense oil that I might inquire about. I find those two scents together seem to match my soul. I am vigorously on the hunt! @@ouch110 I’ve been in the indie perfume scene for 10 years or so and have an absolutely massive collection from many shops ( my obsession led me to start my own wax melt shop lol and I dabble in perfumery as well )- but because of BPAL’s rather intimidating catalogue I haven’t delved into them much sadly- but I would say yes, those three perfumeries are on par, in my opinion. Solstice Scents was my first indie perfumery and I have a soft spot for Angela’s craft. She’s also a master at incense, resin, woods, deep dark blends, plus hyper realistic atmospherics. 😊

Oooh cool I’ll have a look! Also the one that I really hear about is nocturne alchemy, are they good? I did try a few others. The brand that has a scent called “lamp black”? I didn’t like any of them and I can’t remember the brand argh!! I also tried another brand that have a lot of Egyptian themed god oils? They didn’t work for me either
@ceyre81
@ceyre81 3 года назад
@@ouch110 I want to say NAVA and Nocturne Alchemy are the same shop maybe? Or connected somehow? They are Egyptian themed and I also haven’t tried them because their catalogue is just too much- and the descriptions are a bit pretentious and alienating for those not familiar with whatever accords they’re using, so I just never went down that particular rabbit hole. Solstice Scents offers samples so is a lot more accessible and risk free. Their autumn collection is definitely my personal favorite😍

Have you ever tried Agatha Blois fragrance oils? Agatha's hardcore rock'n'roll leather clothing has inspired the most gorgeous packaging (in a comparable ballpark to BHAL's presentation) and the descriptions sound incredibly enticing. I wanted to buy samples many years ago and opted not to due to the ridiculous shipping cost to the UK on top of the actual cost of these little oil bottles. But if someone whose taste I respect and relate to were to rave about them then I'd certainly look seriously at her website again (Carnival Wax).

I picked up a sample and later a bottle of Sed Non Satiata because of your older video for it. Love it and looking forward to wearing it this autumn! Thanks so much!! I love their stuff. Also, I'll vouch for NAVA/Nocturne Alchemy if you're ever in the market for new oil perfumes. If you were to only try one, I'd recommend Kashmir, a rich red musk blend.

It’s so good isn’t it? It’s actually the perfect autumn scent! I think nocturne alchemy is the other brand I’d like to try first! I just don’t know about the customs costs and stuff like BPAL. You really get stung in the U.K. when you buy BPAL and their shipping is so high that I’m kinda Forced to not buy them anymore… it’s a shame. At least there’s the forum!

Halfling was my first love from BPAL. It smells like an oatmeal cookie, but somehow it’s not too sweet. My other favorite is A Vision of a Courtesan from Lupercalia 2020 - it’s one of the most cozy, stunning rice scents ever. I wish I had the means to try all their scents!

Wow! I know this is an older comment, but it stopped me dead in my tracks. I just made my first Bpal order in a year, and the first one I threw in my cart was described as a "crispy oatmeal cookie". Then I spent close to two hours lamenting over one of their creations that showcased rice milk. I wish I could get my hands on 'A Vision'; I know Bpal has a pretty big swap community, so I'll hold out hope for those groups. I wish I had discovered them sooner! I thank you for the suggestions!!

I just recently tried some indie oils for the first time and they were all from Hexennacht. I feel like we are similar in the sense that we like a lot of darker stuff, but also green notes and are particular about sweetness. My favorites so far from the house are Loup-Garou which is “silver amber, fur, and lunar musk”. Ugh, it’s SO good. My other favorite is Bisou which is a stunning lipsticky orris scent. I’ll be sure two revisit this video if i decide to try BPAL. I will admit that the house is pretty intimidating because of the sheer volume of their catalogue. Thanks for the video!

Well, the thing is. It took me a long time and a lot of fails to find the ones I like. I did find so many to be underwhelming and not so special and there are SO many and so many limited edition and seasonal ones coming out all the time it’s hard to keep up. But the forum is a great place to buy samples “imps” they call them to discover lots. I would love to buy more of the newer things but it’s tricky being a U.K. person! Luckily there’s a Facebook group who sometimes do group orders and stuff so, it requires a bit of patience hehe! They are certainly fun though!

What a great video, really helpful. I found BPAL difficult to navigate, their catalogue is so huge and their layout was confusing. Being in the UK it meant all blind buys too which wasn't a big deal when prices were lower. . I have around 10 bottles, a few to die for. I really like snake oil too.

HUGE BPAL lover here! My collection just hit the 100 mark (and maybe more, ha).Will you be ordering any of the new Liliths? As for Carnival Diabolique, I LOVE Western Diamondback and Clemence. AH starting off with Blood Amber! I just received a sample of that a few months ago - and I don't know how I didn't find it years ago. It's now discontinued, I believe, which has me so, so sad because if it wasn't it would take the place of Blood Kiss in my collection! *sigh* Writing this comment as I watch, so... fyi. Aunt Caroline's joy mojo smells kind of citrus-candy-like to me - but, yes, also definitely with a green element to it, though I don't think it's grass. I don't know how I've gone so long adoring this brand without getting an imp of Sed Non Satiata. It has all the notes I love! Although, the geranium may have put me off it. Their geranium & a lot of their greener notes tend to go soapy/too clean on me. But STILL. I must try an imp next time I purchase from them. The nuttiness you're catching in it could be from the cognac note. As for snake oil... I've sniffed it, I've tested it on my skin... and I just did not like it much. Mostly the powderiness that it dries down to. I love vanilla, love spices. Can't stand powder. Can't stand saffron in perfume so Scherezade is not my cuppa. + as someone studying perfumery (casually right now), red musk is usually some synthetic musk compounds with some spice & resin components. Their red musk comes off incense-like on my skin and I do absolutely *love* it as a note. Dragon's Milk is beautiful. Creamy with a bit of natural sweetness from their honey note and, of course, their beautiful dragon's blood accord. Unfortunately, as I type this (Aug 2, 2023), all of Ars Draconis is out of stock. Unsure if they're discontinued or just out of stock. A lot of components have been harder for brands to get recently, thanks to supply chain issues and such. Plum? Tobacco? You've won me over already. I definitely need to check out Madame Moriarty *searches the site, pausing the vid*. So no tobacco, but there is plum and patchouli and vanilla and red musk. Another that I'm shocked I haven't tried yet. It's going on my To Buy list now! The medicinalness you pick up in it could be coming from the black currant note - I know, personally, there's a green/herbal/medicinal note to black currant absolute along with the dark berry-ness of it. Pink Moon is on my list to try! The 2023 version sounds like a sweet floral with notes of ~phlox, pink freesia, stargazer lily, tulip, daffodil, pink columbine, delphinium, pink carnation, peony, and muscari, dusted with pink sugar and honey, bourbon vanilla and a touch of the first strawberries of the season. I recently got Worm Moon (2019) from their Etsy and its notes are described as such: Pink and wriggling globs of grapefruit syrup clotted with congealed moss-green blood, rotting coffin wood spattered with soil, rusting coffin nails, a shard of bone, decomposing organic matter, and a gruesome burst of overripe blackberries. To me it smells like sweet earth - I don't really get the individual notes but that may change the more I wear it. ^^; SAMHAIN! I have a 2015 bottle of that... and I'd offer it to you, but I wear it much too often in Autumn to do so. Plus shipping from here to you would be a bit. Samhain and my two red musk powerhouses from them (well, I think there's a third one now, but that one's new and the other two are also from 2015 so we'll ignore it for now) are ... definitely in my top bottles from them. The other two are The White Witch and La Femme de Satan and I'd say they're ... my holy grail red musk perfumes from them (or from anywhere!). La Femme is red musk, cacao, clove, caramelized tobacco, aged patchouli, red currant, black leather and vanilla-infused amber. I've been scouring forums & the subreddits for another bottle because mine is... even though it's only worn on special occasions and to particular concerts... disappearing rapidly. The White Witch is definitely a bit lighter than La Femme - it has red musk and patchouli and myrrh but it also has honeyed amber, vanilla, pomegranate rind, violet leaf and not just red but blood red rose petals in the mix. Both Pink Phoenix and Black Lace sound AMAZING ... guess I'll be searching about for those too, now. I absolutely loved this video! I'm so glad I added it to my queue to check out. You've gotten me all fired up to wear my BPALs and check out more of their catalogue (again) now! (and see what LEs or discontinued OG scents I can find being sold elsewhere online). I see folks below recommending Alkemia and other such indies and... I like Alkemia and Solstice and CocoaPink and a lot of other indie houses (some newer ones I haven't seen mentioned are Sorcellerie Apothecary - which is kind of a ... I suppose, bit less dark fantasy/book inspired perfumery - Osmofolia and Pearfat) but none of them or the ones I just listed out are in the very same realm as BPAL. I think the only ones that maybe get close are Deep Midnight and Hexennacht because they're both kind of witchy/gothic/fantasy brands but even they don't really match up. BPAL was my first indie love and I'll always, probably, favor them and I don't really think any of the other houses will ever quite match the vibe or the style of the perfumes and other potions that Elizabeth and Brian succeed at cultivating within the Lab. BPAL is truly something unique and special and all on its own plain.

I forgot to add this to my earlier comment: Are you familiar with the house 'History in Drops'? I've been reading about them and they are very clearly a 'concept house', which cannot but pique my interest as a lover of history, geography and literature. However I know nothing about what their fragrances smell like. I hope it's not a case of 'style over substance'. Edit: I won't be ordering anything from BPAL after all because I just saw their 'Activism' fragrance collection and almost puked. There's just no escape from this suffocating, claustrophobic ideological crap, such inappropriate boundary crossing and emotional incontinence. It's genuinely offensive. Isn't there ANYTHING I can enjoy without the strident political views of strangers being shoehorned into the mix?! I mean fragrances, for crying out loud, ought to be entirely non-political and operate within an other sphere of our imaginations, no? Eurch. First I stopped buying all the monthly fashion, art, interiors and travel magazines I used to love and now I have to study companies and fragrance houses and boycott them too. Wow. I guess I'll be saving even more money than I thought in 2022, so that's a plus. Very, very disappointed to say the least.
