Love the way you apply core engineering principles to your everyday life, its something I really took home and it inadvertently proves your point about an engineering degree being a great investment. Even down to your thumbnails and videos being efficient and minimalist. Also, nice audio upgrade!
This is the same exact boat as me. I was a band kid, loved making music and anything of that nature, and wanted a career out of it when I was younger. Now I'm in college as a sophomore in EE. Can totally relate when you said something grounded in reality but true to oneself
I'm an Electrical Engineering freshman in Italy and your channel is a literal goldmine! You were the one who convinced me to pick electrical engineering a few months ago and since then I can't stop watching your videos time and time again. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Ali!
Thanks alot man! This really resonates with me, I turned 18 recently, and I've decided to study 3 courses over the next 2 years to go to uni them being: Further maths, Physics, and A Level Math. I'm really on the fence and worried about messing up my trajectory on life and I want to make the right decision, especially since I've never worked before, but that ending segment where everyone is still learning and its ok to change, really boosts my confidence to give it my all. Its like you said, better to try and fail, than to look back when your old and be disappointed
LOL this guy is my alter ego, same here I started watching house m.d in the past 2 years or so. Was thinking of med more biology and computer engineering. Here you don't have as much options though like summer classes. I also try to track everything but again can't keep score of the unpredictable people in my orbit
It’s awesome that your engineering career still allowed you to live your dream and create media. Thank you for helping us future generation engineers figure it out based on your experiences. I can’t wait to be in college and enjoy my life experiences.
I’m sitting in the courtyard on campus rn excited to get out of class tonight and watch the rest of your videos. I need information like this coming from someone like you. Thank you!
I really appreciate this video, thank you. I definitely understand the "what's next" perception once meeting a goal. This is my freshman year of undergrad, and I started in Physics, but I realized that while I enjoy physics, I enjoy a lot of electrical and computer engineering topics, so this semester [practically over now] I transferred into ECE. I will probably get a physics minor because I'm only 2 courses away, but more importantly the ECE course I took this semester was by far my favorite course so far. It was a Digital Circuits/Logic/Systems [name differs by each uni] which is a beginners CE course, although I know I gravitate more towards subfields of EE. I know I want a Masters degree, but am actively considering PhD so long as I have a specialization. But finding that focus area seems so hard to me. Like I said, early in my UG, so I haven't gotten much exposure to many topics, but I've done a very superficial dive into many subfields. I love the idea of focusing on RF, RF IC, Telecommunications, IC, Circuits, Microelectronics, VLSI, Photonics, there's probably more I'm blanking on, etc. While I don't have the coursework or intern or research experience, they all sound exciting. How did you know what focus area was the one?
Honestly it was so hard to focus on just one. All the ones you listed are super cool. The way I chose it is combining what I like with what I had around me that was good. For example I found a professor who was very talented in telecommunications, so I chose that
Say doc I was into writing plays, stories, poetry making scores , beats instrumentals I was deep into the arts which is now my hobby especially music. But now I am going to school for computer and electronic egineering. I didnt care about the money either.I cared about how i can take what i learned and create something useful. I definitely see where you are coming from.
I’m starting college at UT Arlington this fall and majoring in electrical engineering. your videos are extremely helpful and couldn’t thank you enough for your effort and sharing your knowledge. the plan is to get into the automotive electric industry. i’ve always had a passion for cars and electricity is the future so that’s the path i’m planning to go by.
EE and filming/creative writing doesn't seem to be even remotely similar. But I recall you said that you believe creativity is one of the most valuable traits of an engineer. So I can see how both of these would make sense. Personally I hate writing😂 I'm into drawing and painting.
I love this video! I feel that you think a lot similarly to the way I do in certain aspects which is great. Im about to head to college - planning on energy engineering - but I also had a very creative past as you did. I play lots of music and do photography and love to ski, but sometimes reality can be harsh with what is truly sustainable. Engineering has always been a big interest to me even though I may not have been the best high school student at times. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for this video, really helped to make me excited in a way for my future!
Watching this video made me sure that I want to pursue electrical engineering. I'm 17 going into my senior year and as a junior I decided I wanted to study electrical engineering. I had been experiencing a lot of doubt because teachers always say do what you love and you'll be fine but that really is not good advice. I love music but I know I can do electrical engineering, and music as a hobby. I know a career in electrical engineering will provide me with a stable future in order to do what I want to do in life. Your advice in this video is gold. I should be graduating high school with an associates in engineering and then transferring to a college to get a bachelors in electrical engineering. Since you are deep in your electrical engineering journey, I was wondering if you could answer a question I have been having. Does the college where I get my bachelors in electrical engineering matter? Will the college I get this degree in affect my ability to find a job down the road? My parents are not paying for my college and I really do not want to take out student loans. I am trying to find colleges that are affordable. I know scholarships and financial aid are options but I would rather keep my student debt low so I do not ruin my future, you know?
This video is great especially since I'm currently going to UB for my undergrad. I'm in computer science but as I'm finding my math and physics class (that I took for my scientific literacy) way more interesting than the intro CSE course. I'm heavily considering switching to EE because I also don't know what to do with my life but I know I want to be an engineer and I'm curious as to how modern technology works.
Are all electrical engineers the same I am also super conscious of my time..and the journey is same rill I graduate I got frustrated till the end but I rediscovered my love for electrical engineering again after 3 months
You finna be the youtuber face for the subject bro great vids I am doing triple e next year simply because in my uni they are practically the same and i can drop one each year which gives me some freedom like what you had you should make a video on electronic engineering if you know differences between the two
(copying and pasting a post of mine from reddit) I'm a 3rd year undergraduate in Electrical engineering. Here in Italy things are kinda different from abroad. The bachelor's degree lasts 3 years and then there's the master's degree that lasts 2 years (normally people in engineering go for the 3+2). There is also a big difference between Electrical and Electronics Engineering. These are two separated degrees: In the first you learn about mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical machines, some electronics, some automation and power systems In the second you learn about signals, systems, electronics, antennas, telecommunications, programming etc. I'm really interested in electrical vehicles, power electronics, electromagnetism in general and all of that electrical modern stuff like domotics and induction stoves. But i don't like electrical energy distribution systems, electrical implants at all. I would never want to create industrial electrical implants or join national electrical energy distributors, for me it feels like working on old stuff. Renewable Energy is a modern topic but i would not work on that because i prefer other things. So i have started thinking into switching from Electrical to Electronics. I want to finish my bachelor's degree, recover some exams and start a master in electronics. I will probably have to take a year to recover the exams to start the master with all the necessary knowledge, and I'm scared about that. I don't know the Electronics world that much (I don't know about the Electrical world either) but i know that it could get me nearer to ICT in general. I prefer that world and would like to work on drones, robots, consumer electronics (or at least i would prefer that form working on electrical implants and all of that industrial stuff). I would really like to also get nearer to software engineering, AI, ML, cybersecurity but I don't pretend to learn that stuff immediately. And also not to work specifically only on that stuff...i'm just curious. Like i would not like to be a Data Scientist, a front end developer even though you get lots of money doing that...i'd prefer to be an engineer that designs products for costumers. I would like to work on hardware stuff but also on some software, and so to have the freedom to move between the fields i prefer the most (electrical vehicles, robotics, drones, consumer electronics, ai, autonomous vehicles, domotics etc.). I just get a little bit scared about getting into a field i'm not prepared for, and also seeing my future colleagues more prepared that me. I'm not sure if I'm choosing right cause i don't really know the field i'm getting into...I'm choosing it because i don't feel to have other alternatives. I mean computer engineering is interesting but then you'll work only on software 100% , on the other hand you already know what i think about electrical engineering and power implants. Another problem of mine is that i wouldn't want to master electronics and then get my electrical engineering bachelor's degree discredited, so i could not get to work on the car's powertrain. But it is like the only part that i really like about my bachelor's, then i would prefer electronics. As you can see I'm kinda confused and I also blame myself a lot for losing time 'cause this is not even the first time i change (in my first year i have changed from mechanical to electrical). I'm looking for advice and encouragement.
@@alithedazzling ohh i see, it's seems a bit off now that you put it that way, i mean, it works but it's like hearing an asmr or a narration when in reality you're talking away from the microphone haha, but it's definitly an improvement from past videos and background music is a nice touch!
its kind of crazy to see this vid bc im 17 right now and currently going through almost the exact same thought process u outlined in the video- from having creative interests but wanting a major thats grounded in a mixture of reality and interest. I even had the experience of initially considerjng mechanical engineering but finiding it a bit lackluster before findjng interest in med, getting a PHD, biomedical engineering then utlimately settling to go for an EE degree after a copious amount of research. i thank u sm for this vid bc it rly helped me to become more confident in my decision to pursue EE bc of how simillar ur situation and values r to mine!! im not sure if ur going to see this comment but just in case u do, i have a quick question. do u think its worth it to get a double degree in another subject to explore ur interests and potential careers? do u personally think a double degree would've helped u? if so, what degree would u have considered?
I’m 20 years old and I’m seriously considering changing from a music major to an electrical engineering major. It’s not necessarily just for money. I want to go into the field because I find the idea of being an electrical engineer very intriguing. I want to be able to contribute to the world in a concrete way. I also love the idea of designing circuits and ultimately finding creative solutions for various problems. The only thing is that my math skills are subpar, mainly due to circumstances when I was in 9th grade. I missed out on the fundamentals of math, which is not great. I’ve been teaching myself a lot of what I missed though, and I’m definitely willing to put the work in, and then some. I just ultimately realized that being an audio engineer alone probably wouldn’t be a fulfilling path for me, and that the music program generally felt uninspiring. I still love music, and plan to mix and record songs regardless. I may even work on audio hardware, who knows? In any case, I still feel very behind. I took a gap year because I was so unfocused that I didn’t apply to colleges in time. Regardless, I’m going to do my best to succeed.
talk to a few math professors/teachers and see if they can give you some insight on how to improve. I'd say follow your intuition. Best of luck! If you have more questions Join our discord -> discord.gg/dZUbkpHDsB
I would also recommend looking into electrician and engineering technician. I know quite a few people who have gone on to be electrical engineers starting from those positions
@@Dayvon11 I hope all is well. I actually changed my major, but I wasn’t allowed to do EE because I’m just starting college algebra this semester. They let me into CS, and I’m enjoying it a lot so far. I still want to do EE, and the plan is that I go back to school for another bachelors in EE, at least for now. The math has been going better than I thought, I think I’m getting the hang of it.
I studied industrial psychology to work in HR data analytics. However, Im looking at your video cause I feel money wise I didn't make the wisest choice, so I was curious to see if grass is greener on the other side. I love my field, but even with a masters getting a good paying job fresh out of college has been really hard. I also dont want to move out of the state I live in due to the enjoyable weather.
I'm a junior in an EET bachelors program right now and sort of struggling with the curriculum. I sort of regret going the EET route, since all we lack is pretty much one physics class and two math classes compared to just a regular EE program. But this is a cheap state university and the only one who offered me any scholarships + financial aid. Right now they're having us use differential equations and concepts from Calculus 3 despite neither of those being prerequisites. My advice to anyone who reads this comment, don't bother with an EET program.
Do you have advice for a person who wants to take robotics engineering. I’m 16 and I was been a fan of robotics. I like the aspect of electrical hardware and programming. I did some basics with arduino. The thing is what would benefit me I heard about different electrical classes like electronics, electrical engineering, embedded systems and computer engineering. I want to work with the electrical hardware once I go to college but which one you think would help. I Initially wanted to do CS but I kind like found it boring like it is cool programming but I want to involve robotic stuff like electronics and IoT. What electrical classes should I be looking for, I been stressing because I barley can find any information relating to robotics.
I found your channel yesterday and i've seen a lot of your videos. i'm an EE student and we don't have "clubs" about electronics. Someone knows how they work and what i should do to make one ? What course or guide would be good to start ?
I would definitely start one if you are interested. First try to message few people in your class and see who is interested, then together put together some stuff
Hey, I have a question that kinda has to do with something you were saying at the beginning of the video about making your school decision. Personally, I am not 100% set on a major but I am leaning towards electrical engineering right now. I got in to UIUC, NCSU, and Chapel Hill. Though Chapel is my favorite college, it doesn't have engineering so the idea of ditching engineering makes me cross it out. UIUC is top 5 for Electrical engineering, but it is very expensive at 60k a year (34k more than NC State). My parents are willing to pay my costs, however, its a large investment so I don't want to waste their money. Most people have told me to go to NCSU bc it has a really great engineering program at a lower cost than UIUC, do you agree? If I am to determine that engineering/electrical engineering isn't for me, I hope that I can transfer to a college like UNC and do something else. I feel like if I go to uiuc for 1-2 years and determine that engineering isn't for me, transferring will be a waste of 120k (and this isn't a realistic option)...
I would agree that NCSU would probably be better if its way cheaper -- that way less pressure on you and your parents. Also I went to a state school and that gave me freedom to be surrounded by other normal people and it just made college more fun. I think your intuition is right and you already know -- but if you want my blessing then go for it :-)
@@alithedazzling Yeah I chose NCSU. The reason I took so long is the competitive culture at my school, and I just wanted to go to uiuc/chapel to prove that I performed really highly in high school to family and peers. Ik this feeling will eventually go away but this is the trap that I almost fell into. It does, however, makes me reconsider the significance of the amount of time I invested into studying for the SAT and getting a's.
@@alithedazzling You're an engineer. You are creative,. You're an expert at creative thinking analysis. You 're goal driven, and you think things through. Also, Elon's companies and the Navy are on the cutting edge of engineering and developing the latest and greatest technologies.
@@evanansot6335 Thank you for saying that. I actually had an interview with SpaceX and made it till very last round, but they said since I had a PhD I didn't have enough hands on experience -- I think Elon would agree it was a big mistake from the recruiters since I would've been willing to work 16 hours/day for that company. But the alternative is now I have to start my own company, so everything happens for a reason
I'm a high school entrepreneur but I wanna start a hardware startup. Do you think I can hire people in college by just going to local events making friends?
I have a question Mr Ali. Can I do ms in electrical engineering from a reputed US institution if I have a bachelor in computer science (4 yrs). Please can you give me guidance for this??
how much time did it take to give up most of your distractions or time wasting activities? is there a phrase or thought that you recall every time you find yourself not being "productive"?
yeah of course, I think most important thing is what you do before you sleep and as soon as you wake up. If you center your attention on things you want to do during these two times, it will be easier to just re-track to them when you find yourself getting distracted. I definitely procrastinate and wonder a lot -- just probably not nearly as much as most people
Can you please help me, I need advice. I'm just graduate in Electrical engineering but I'm confused in which specialization should I choose for Masters in context of job scenario that is good in the future?? I'm little interested in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI). what's your thoughts??
السلام عليكم Thanks a lot brother , i'm also studying electrical engineering in Algeria i'm a first year student , I have some questions to ask about , if you have any contact (e-mail, viber....) please send it ; if not iwill ask here . Thanks in advance.
I think it would be very helpful if you can give any kind a way to reach you if anyone needs to ask you something am a 17 year old and I feel like my character is a lot like yours but I don’t know how to be the best version of my self like you did✔️ and thank you 🤍
