I love watching physical media videos because it really reaffirms me that more people than me still collect physical media and makes me love it even more. I've been a fan of you for a while now ever since I discovered your Letterboxd, but for some reason I felt nervous in commenting on one of your videos. I hope your doing well today and keep on the great work, Sydney!
It is a scary time but i do see people being inspired all the time to start their own collection and that’s so awesome!! And I appreciate the support so much, comment or not!!🙌🏼
You should watch lets get physical media with rob burnett and Deiter Bastian they talk about physical media and whats out now or coming out and share their collection of stuff. You should check it out
I'm very jealous about that Warriors boxset. I missed it when it came out. Great collection btw! I just started this year and I have found that Arrow's catalogue far exceeds what Criterion offers based on my taste.
I pretty much talked 9,967 of those people into subscribing. Had to go door to door every day for the past four years. Got jobs washing dishes for a couple weeks at a time before moving on to the next town while living out of my '97 Neon, but it was chill.
In a male dominant video niche, it’s so cool seeing a powerful woman having a kick butt collection, being passionate about it, and bringing a freshness to what can be stale conversation and commentaries. You get my follow on RU-vid and letterboxd!
As one who already has a dorknormous collection, I can tell you that it's most important that you discuss the favorite movies that you DO have, and you'll be fine. Age and making a bit more dough will take care of the rest. So don't sweat it. My further unsolicited advice: don't distract from your interesting points by working blue - only swear your head off when you're OFF camera.
I love seeing youg people collecting physical media and being interested in older movies and actors like James Cagney man of a thousand face's he done a lot of good movies
I've bought so many cheap DVDs that I still haven't seen, I just saw a $2 movie and said "yes" I need to bunker down for a week and just watch everything. Congratulations on 10k subscribers!!!! Very deserved
Loved this video! If you're going to be doing "Doctor Sleep" on the podcast - I HIGHLY recommend the Director's Cut, it's a masterpiece and the extra time really makes a difference. I was a bit meh on the theatrical cut, but DC was everything. Also. ALSO. I've never met anyone who loves "Legend" as much as me, so we are now instantly friends.
I always knew you had taste but Legend is kind of the ultimate litmus test, you rock thank you for stopping by!! Def taking notes about doctor sleep✍🏼✍🏼
I’ve been watching your channel for quite some time now and seeing the evolution of these videos has been amazing. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, you are the best movie reviewer on RU-vid. Your videos are so well made and seeing your passion for movies has definitely grown my passion for them as well. Thank you for making these videos, I think I can speak for everyone when I say we love them and hope that you continue making them and we wish you nothing but more success on your journey. So Sydney, congrats on 10k, and here’s to so many more! Also, awesome physical media collection you got! Those Dune book ends are sick!
Wow, this made me tear up thank you so much for the kind words! It’s so easy to be passionate about film in this community, and I’m glad I’ve been able to pay it forward in some way! Very very grateful to you guys and looking forward to the future!
Wow. Love your movie collection. You have some of my fav movies EVER like Face/off , Hard Target and National Treasure. And Yess Tobey is My Spider-Man Too.❤😂❤🎉
Awesome collection. I have a lot of the same blu rays, though your 4K and Criterion blu ray collection is a lot more impressive than mine 😂 I'm still slowly upgrading to 4K, lol. And those steelbooks of Mission Impossible Fallout and Robocop look really cool!
I still have a very large collection of movies on CED and in particular, Laser Disc. I have many special editions with the laser discs, stuff that cost me around $149 to acquire and I can get them today for less than $50. Grrr! I have many that you mentioned on those older formats but these days, I am investing more in Blu-ray discs. I concentrate on older films such as the Ray Harryhausen collections, the original Universal Monster collections and even Metropolis (amazing film, not for everybody). I just picked up the entire original Star Trek collection in metal. I had a Disney account and decided drop it last month. I had it only for my wife who loves the old Disney classics. So what I am doing is buying up all the Disney classics on Blu-ray. I already bought 12 titles the past few weeks and I'll be getting more as the weeks go by. When I looked at the cost, it would be cheaper to get the movies over a short period of time instead of keeping the Disney account open. You pay the money, watch the classic and then what? This way we have it in physical form and once paid for, it's paid for. It's just a matter of economics. Long term, I would love to replace my CED and Laser Disc movies with either DVD or Blu-ray versions. Many of those I know are not available outside of those formats but eventually, they will get replaced. Thanks for the video.
Excellent collection! I did the same thing and bought Deep Cover twice 😅 the art is just so striking I probably just instinctively clicked. And hell yes to THIEF and OLD! Do you have something you’re dying to get a release? I’m aching for a Strange Days, really any early Bigelow stuff needs more physical releases
I thought I'd been saving my money all these years to one day buy a house. Turns out, I'd actually been saving my money all these year to one day buy Sydney's sandworm bookends.
This is the first video I’ve seen from you but the John Carpenter love made me instantly subscribe. Also, I have that Police Story collection and it’s so great. I highly recommend checking them out soon!
Hired to Kill is an okay low budget action film from Nico Mastorakis. If you like Van Damme or Seagal movies you'll probably like it. Arrow also put out another one of his called The Zero Boys that I would recommend. Great to see a younger person who loves The Warriors. It is one of my favorites ever as well. I've heard a lot of "It is so boring" from the younger generation.
I got a plug in chip for my Oppo 4K Blu ray player to make it multiregion because the Criterion Blu Ray's wont play on my Oppo (the curse of living in Australia as we are region 4 and don't get Criterion's released here down under so I have to import them)
Hi you have some great films and eclectic taste. Sixth Sense is great but I hated Old. Just thought the script and some of the performances were awful. The Warriors is amazing. Have you seen Videodrome?
Sydney I completely understand you’ll only collect Blue Rays and other physical media of movie that have value to you. Same as you I’ll only collect DVDs and Blue Rays of movies that I’m entertained by whether it’s well made movies such as The Boondock Saints, Jaws, The Fugitive, John Wick, Young Guns, etc or movies that I know are poorly made movies except still are unintentional entertaining terrible movies including Wild Wild West, Deep Blue Sea, etc.
You're a great natural speaker, with such a pleasant vibe. Just found your channel as I'm full on into physical media and been watching videos on building a home video store and your video came up as a reccomendation. This isn't a plug, but you speaking about being so excited about 10,000 subscribers is awesome and gives me hope. My channel Stephen Sherrard-Griffith Movies At The Bar is new, with only 29 subscribers 😂 but I love film so much and have lots to share, so I'm going to keep going and you're proof one should do that. Keep doing unscripted live videos like this, you're awesome. Stephen from Movies At The Bar 😊🍸 PS I've git The Martian and haven't seen it yet and Walter Mitty is great and agree, Stiller is a very underrated filmmaker.
Goal! never expected to see that one haha. as another film fan who comes from a soccer background...I have to recommend a movie called "9" that features Enzo Vogrincic from Society of the Snow. (I believe the main character is inspired by Luis Suarez)
well now you have 10,000 and 1. i hear you about spsce bagged most of my dvds and on my bookshelf store my favourite ones. Most recently bought the abyss and true lies on 4k.
Paused to like, subscribe and say that I literally said "Hell yeah!" when you held up Ambulance. I went into that movie thinking "yeah I'll waste a couple hours with some dumbass bayhem" and came out thinking "holy shit, Micheal Bay is a genius!!"
Awesome collection Syndey! I've been getting into buying Criterion copies within the last year, and you've definitely given me some great ideas of what next to buy. Love that Pinocchio box art!
I'd make a Hackers joke here but I'm not sure how well it'd come across. I have the old Starship Troopers steelbook though, which is nice. Want to see my collection?
Just discovered you; great presentation - you came across much less nervous than you said you felt. I always fail to prepare enough but I struggle through... and you had a new subscriber the moment you said *Blade Runner* was your favourite movie... and you share my love of _John Woo_ and _John Carpenter_ too! I'll not go into the huge number of other movies you have I'm a big fan of, we'd be here all day... I'm lucky enough to own a lot more titles (that I can't fit on shelves), a lot of which we may not agree on, but your and my favourites seem to have a big overlap 😀... and, even with a full catalogue of my collection on my phone, I still make errors and have unintentional doubles; I have too many intentional ones too 🤣 Oh, and I _Love_ those *Dune* bookends! Obviously congratulations on the 10K subs... you seem to have kept adding more exponentially.👏
Yeah that looks like the animal kingdom tv show, the australian movie it's based on is much better and pretty much the reason why Ben Mendleson and jackie weaver are now known outside of Australia
I hope people start buying physical media more soon. Apparently target is also stopping sales so maybe I need to start looking online for shit. What sites do you all use the most?
Started watching your content last year through TikTok & as someone who loves film & film criticism it really makes me happy to see someone thrive in this medium the way that you have. Keep going because you’re doing such an amazing job & I hope I can make a 10k subscriber video someday of my 400+ movie collection🙂
Your comment about Deadpool/Wolverine was spot on to how I felt watching the trailer release this morning; Just feels like the humor had its day. Not sure if you feel this way after watching the trailer but thanks anyway for making me feel validated 😂 Also, great vid, loved seeing the collection
This is the third physical media haul from a channel I like that I watched front to back despite my personal collection just being a zipper DVD case with Wonderfalls, Galaxy Quest, and all the Ratchet and Clank games. Also, huge congrats on the milestone!
Thank you!! And wow, that is a small but mighty collection. But yeah PM videos are weirdly entertaining, it is the only time i will watch something really long lol
Congrats on 10K subs!! Great collection - I also love the steelbooks and Criterion Collection, so I try to stick to those "premium" sets now and avoid normal blu-ray/4k boxes since I think they're made of cheap plastic where the discs tend to fall out :(
