Kicking out your own child at the age of 18 without any actual reason other than them being an "adult", is something I will never understand. If you dislike children and are clearly not capable of being a good parent, don't have them. It makes life easier for everyone.
@stirrednotshaken4837
@stirrednotshaken4837 21 день назад
Yep, to kick them out and then expect a hug from them as they walk out of the door is just crazy. I have 2 kids and my partner has 6. Over the years, we have had at least 2 of them live with us, but we didn't charge rent with the stipulation that they earn money and save it to get their own place. Mission accomplished. but the point is that parents should care about their children, even when they are grown adults...because something will always pop up and they will need assistance, so help them if you can.

The part that gets me is that the parents took one look at OP struggling at school and deemed him a “bum” not all people are good at learning how schools teaches and then are labeled “dumb” when in reality they are just as smart or more smart than others, they just need to be taught differently and/or have the right people.

Story 1: If the parents were that interested in having a relationship, they're 32 years too late. The brother was genuinely surprised by the truth and seemed understanding. Maybe they will have an opportunity to get closer moving forward? I dunno. OP is 50 now so maybe he'd feel like it isn't worth the hassle. Just don't reconcile with the rest of the family, that's for sure. They just want money and another 'trophy' for their mantle. Story 2: Sister never cared about OP. She jumped on the STBXH like a beech in heat the first chance she got. Story 3: Yet another example of why when you get union and legal help and advice, YOU FOLLOW IT. I hope she can stick it back to them in some way but sounds like she may just let it go altogether.

It's nice to see a story where the former Golden Child isn't a pos. As far as story 2 goes, I wonder if the sister was infatuated with OP's life, as well as her husband. Dumping her kids makes me think that not having the responsibilities of her children was part of the equation. The sister and STBX are both scum and fools for ripping their families apart for nothing.

Its so weird. where I live - if sh*t like this happen the problem is "would sparks fly again?" and people will be teasing them. What d heck! those HR people should be fired. They are not professional at all!

Story 3: why ask for advice if you aren't going to take it? I would have gone to work everyday with a smile and notebook I'd fill withexact documentation of every action. The lawsuit for hostile work environment, harassment, and retaliation would have paid for my daughter's education and down payment for a house at the vary least.

I hope the HR department in the 3rd story rots in Hell. Honestly, what they did was illegal and, like the OP said, it was 10 years ago at uni, which doesn't count as an affair, especially if they were both single at the time. Some people really need to learn that stuff that happened in the past is none of their business.

1st Story: If I were the wife, I would have said: "Whichever you chose, I will stick by you. You don't have to force yourself to reconcile with your family." The wife should be more understanding and would give her husband that kind of advice rather than siding with OP's family despite her upbringing. She needs to understand that not all families are the same though. If it were me in that wife's place, I would give him advice that will help him chose whichever. If he doesn't want to forgive and reconcile, that's okay. He doesn't have to.

S2: the sister's statements about not wanting to hurt her sister was probably all staged to make herself look better to OP husband. It was a long game where she hoped to look good as the long suffering soul mate of her sisters husband. Most likely the ah realized he fell for it during that week together. Still, can't believe anyone would abandon their children like that... Disgusting. I'm curious as to what happened during that week and what that dude has to say for himself.

Regarding the story about the cheating husband and sister- When the OP asks if anyone has heard of two people throwing their entire lives away for one week of sex (which if you watch current movies or read pulp novels); well, the sex is supposedly better in situations like this because the danger or being caught heightens your emotional and physical response (that last sentence is in my lexicon entirely because those same media resources- after finally getting out of a VERY emotionally and sexually abusive relationship, I am frigid and completely ok with that- I don't and haven't had any sort of sex drive for the last 15 years or so, so my ideas about some of the sexual details may be a little off). I am going to speculate that despite the hearts, flowers, kittens, precious moments figurines (I have always hated those!), etc., the week was about sex, not love. I can say this with a fair amount of confidence because as long as the details in the narrative are true and correct, these two already shared every other relationship aspect. They were 'platonic soul mates' (according to the sister) already and basically acted as a couple in every way except one- so if they already had everything else, the only novel aspect pushing them into this corner is sex. At some point though the nibblets of doubt are going to be creeping in and every time they indulge themselves in each other, the uh payout (how's that for subtle :) ? ) is going to be a tiny bit less satisfying and the afterglow is going to start edging away from euphoria and into guilt. If this speculation is even a little bit correct, it seems that one week is the term limit (or half-life if you will) for physical pleasure and the intellectual pleasure of 'getting away with something' to overshadow the thought or the familial disaster lurking over their horizon. I would almost be willing to bet (I say almost, because as a totally broke, newly single parent- I most definitely can't afford to bet!), that by day three or four, the only pleasant interaction they have with each other is in bed, but unfortunately for their love story, you can't spend your entire life in bed (as much as someone might want to!). Heck, you can't even spend your entire relationship in bed (but I would guess that a relationship spent entirely in bed is probably going to be the most honest relationship in history). What happens when they have to pick up the kids, give a shameful glance at their feet walking past their neighbor to get to their front door, have to put gas in their vehicle at the only gas station in their small town- where the clerk is their betrayed spouse's 2nd cousin, etc.? Are they going to be able to endure this and keep their love going or are they going to crack and wonder where they went wrong (don't worry- they won't have to wonder too long- I am sure there will be MANY innocent and not-so-innocent bystanders who will be glad to enlighten this couple of idiots as to the details of where they went wrong! It would suck to be them (or not as the case may be... If that sounded dirty- that's because It was meant to- there is a 12 year old boy stuck somewhere in my 48 year old female skull!) stuck in that hotel room, wondering where the afterglow was. I don't mean where did it go- I mean where was it. I say that because my very inarticulate and probably inappropriate second guess as to why this 'relationship' imploded so quickly is because someone was absolutely the worst lover ever. As I mentioned above, they already basically had a relationship and the only thing left that would have pushed this over the edge a long time ago is sex. If they were so close for all of that time, and they really never did engage physically before this, there would have been so much pressure and such specific expectations regarding this, there is almost no way the act itself could possibly live up to what they have carried in their dreams and wishes for so long. They were looking for the Wizard of OZ and only found the frail little man behind the curtain...

S2 - if sister is really concerned, she never would have been so close to OP's husband. Infidelity happens because 2-people-engage not because it just happens. IMO - she was baiting OP's husband until sis finally broke and leave and she swooped in. She worked hard for years to put a "crack" on that marriage. She's not going to let it pass by. I highly doubt they actually have so many things in common if OP's husband suddenly broke up with him in just a week. He must have been manipulated mentally and emotionally to make it seem like they have "unique connection". Narcs are actually expert at this. They are like chameleon that changes depending on their target-partner/victim. Once they have their victim in their grasp - thats when they show their true colors. There's a reason she have kids with no husband. OP's husband must felt like he was bamboozled so he kicked her out fast. Sucks to be him. LOL

Story 1 - I was going to go easy on op's wife if she ran her argument based on emotions and ignorance but I can't cut her any slack. It's so easy for her to go on about family values when she was raised within a loving family. She should have heard op out first and sided with him. It really wasn't her business why op is choosing to distance himself from his family. It's worse that she knew and still pressured for op to be around people he doesn't want to reconcile with. They had so many years to reach out but they obviously didn't care if op was dead or alive or struggling. Her saving grace was the fact she didn't double down and at least admitted she was wrong. Story 2 - A WEEK? THEY ONLY LASTED A WEEK. 😂 Wooooooow. What about the fact that they were supposed to be soulmates?? I was spinning by all of the gaslighting. Holy moly. This is why people don't really think men and women can just be friends. Sister sounds like she's becoming unhinged because she gambled everything to be with her sister's sloppy seconds and he didn't want to be hooked up with a crazy person who abandoned her children. Maybe she thought she could have do-over children. I like how op's ex husband wouldn't admit he just used op's sister for sex and threw her out when she thought they were a serious couple. The audacity for her to say op ruined HER happiness, lol. Story 3 - op was pretty naive in the beginning but she's NTA. op had a solid case to sue on the grounds of a hostile work environment and retaliation. This was an obvious attempt to slander op's reputation before she got the idea to make a fuss and get lawyers involved. At least op's daughter seems to have a better head on her shoulders.

1st story - These stories are all the same. If the OP would only have a backbone there would be no stories. Like why couldn’t OP tell his wife why he’s NC with his family? After telling her if she still wants to gaslight you then you can divorce & go NC with her since they’re so much more important to her than her damn husband.Having a backbone saves you lots of heartache & bs. So I don’t feel sorry for doormats because at what point do you finally stand up for yourself? Never? Because “family”? OP’s wife can eff right off.
