Agree, Croatia always preform well. I also think this tournament is the perfect timing of still having an still-firing old guard combined with a bunch of younger players who will only get better. There's an arrangement of players like Stanišić, Gvardiol, Kovačić, Modrić, Pašalić... and more. Solid squad. Yet after 2 consecutive World Cup successes, people always seem to count them out in the most random matchups.

Portugal has a very poor record against Germany, only beating them once since 2000. That would be one hell of a game though.

I'm an Italy fan and tbh I don't think it's looking good for us but it has to be said we always seem to find some sort of magical spirit in knockout competitions. I reckon quarter finals is possible and would be an immense result.

Everybody has Germany winning the group, but when's the last time they won a group? Everyone seems to just base their predictions on FIFA rankings with zero room for crazy unpredictable things happening. Remember when Iceland beat England in the 2016? Or LAST WEEK for that matter, when they are supposed to be favourites? It would actually be a shock to me if Germany did win this group considering they couldn't beat Ukraine and barely beat Greece.

As a dutch person; on point in regards to Koeman. Reasons; 1. Picks the wrong players (Bergwijn and Wijnaldum for example), 2. too stuborn with keep setting up players who do not perform (like Wijnaldum, Simons and Veerman recently who played horrible and fine for Eredivisie, but isn't ready for more), 3. too inconsistent with setting up the rest of the team and 4. he isnt getting all out of players; a lot of them play so much better at their club (Reijnders, van Dijk, de Ligt and Aké). They will do better than the last couple of years tho; with Gakpo joining Depay, and the defensive players are still great, plus more experienced.

Hungary seem not to have many quality solutions against teams that defend solid and don‘t give them space, as seen against irland. They had many shots from distance but not one good chance that they really played out. This is why i see them struggling against switzerland and schottland. Both teams are defensively very solid.

what I quite like about the format with most 3rd placed teams going through is it could encourage teams to go for a win more than the "play for a draw/not get beat" mentality. One win could be enough to get through as most teams aiming to scrape through will likely lose to the best team, and drawing the other two probably won't be enough whereas one win could be. I'm interested to see how it plays out, but wouldn't surprise me if Scotland managed one or two draws to finish 3rd and go out (personally I think we'll lose all our games and finish bottom).

Germany has been Portugal biggest weakness in Euros & WCs alike....somehow they always crumble to the Germans but.....this was also the case for the French aswell everytime Portugal would face France, they would lose....then Euro 2016 final happened, with an abysmal squad btw compared to what they have now.. Portugal for me are my pick aswell although I am very cautious because I know their history with some of these teams..

Dont sleep on romania. I understand why you would think this of romania but they did face a really inform colombia and had a result of 3:2, which since the start of 2023 only 3 other country's has done, no other country scoring more than 2 against colombia since 2020. Since the start of 2023 ,Germany, Brazil, and the USA all failed to score, not scoring a single goal. so romania had a better performance than than Germany and brazil against colombia in the last year. Romania obviously went undefeated in their qualifying group, but also, since the start of 2022, out of the 22 games they played during that time ,they only lost 6 games. They scream of dark horse. BTW I'm not romanian. I'm mexican.

Denmark not having selected Mat O'Riley is crazy. He won player of the year and is probably in Denmarks top 5 best players (Christensen, Andersen, Højlund, O'Riley, Hjulmand?)

Germany have been struggling horribly against small(er) football nations for years now, what is more is that Wirtz and Musiala somehow, someway do not function with one another, the recent games showed this quite well. When they go up against equal or stronger opponents they somehow perform much better. I think it's at least a 50% chance that they end up in 3rd or 4th for that group, of course the potential for much more is there but it's been too common for them to lose their heads against David while they're Goliath. The 1-2 and 1-4 against Japan are wonderful examples but Hungary also has given the Germans loads of trouble, they haven't lost any of their last 3 games against them, 2 of which they drew more or less unluckily. Hungary are on a roll anyway so I'm surprised with your placing them in 4th but it really is a hard group to predict.

For me hungary will do very well. And Scotland will finish last. That would be my only major disagreement

I'm Portuguese so I hope your prediction is right, but my feeling is a France vs Germany in the final and France takes it because their team is a machine that will destroy everything in their path.

As an Italian, our attack is trash, but our midfield has heaps of quality. It will depend a lot on how much heart the players put in (as it's often the case for Italy). I think if Scamacca shows up like he has for Atalanta in the last few months, and Chiesa/Barella/Pellegrini/Fagioli/Jorginho click, and Di Marco scores a couple screamers, the we could go through and possibly be a tricky team to face. On the other hand, we lost Acerbi, Scalvini and Udogie to injury, and Retegui and Raspadori are sub par really as much as i want to believe in them, so if the midfield doesn't click and exposes the defense too much, and our attackers show up in terrible form and miss all their chances, then we might end 3rd with very few points.

I think Portugal are being massively overrated. They’re a good side but I don’t think the depth is as good as it’s being made out. They were also average at the World Cup I thought and even worse at the previous Euros. If they start Ronaldo, that’s their first mistake.
