Have you ever Fallowed a tank and used black molly fish to test it after the Fallow? They are really good algae eaters too. If not that.. Auto water changes?

Red slime algae is not from high nutrients. It's an imbalance of bacteria diversity. This happens when you P04 and N03 bottom out to zero, and your bacteria feeds off bacteria instead of nutrients. Bryopsis looks totally different from hair algae. If you look at pic of air algae it looks like hair and is bright green. bryopsis is dark green and has branch leaves on it. They don't look the same at all.

That there proves a point that just because you have a reef tank and RU-vid channel and a reef related name to it doesn't mean that one knows what they are talking about. I feel that someone like her should at least fact check before making a video giving out advice with incorrect information.

Noob question here : can bryopsis be found on glass? If I have bryopsis, there’s not a lot. And I also got neomeris sp on one of my rock that got confused as bryopsis because it looked like foliage at the beginning of its growth. I’m only 5 or 6 months into this hobby.

With bubble algae I found reducing nitrates and phosphates, adding urchins and emerald crabs along with reducing feeding and not doing water changes for a while helps, as the fresh salt seems to feed it due to the fresh trace elements etc!

I only recently added urchins to my tank and they are algae eating machines. They do like a spot of coraline which is OK with me. One of my urchins picked up a massive mushroom. It makes me smile seeing this urchin disguised as a Discosoma trundling around the tank.

We have a similar tank to you - the 200g Waterbox 7225 peninsula. 2 years in and we have an aiptasia explosion. We have been using Aiptasia X but after like the third bottle we added 10 berghia nudis about a week ago. I will do my best to remember to let you know how we get on as we have 2 leopard star wrasse (aka peacock wrasse) one male and one female. Wish us luck with Cyril and Cynthia! They are usually tucked into (the sand) bed before lights out. 😂

In my main tank I have a couple emerald crabs and a One Spot Fox face, I have no nuisance algae in that tank currently. I set up a Pico tank and took some snails from the big tank and tossed them into the Pico. They almost immediately started growing bubble algae in there shells. I guess my crabs and Fox Face have been working overtime on the bubble algae in the big tank, that I didn’t have any visible.

As long as you follow the dosing it works like a charm, I would recommend doing a normal water change before treating the tank and not doing another for at least 2 weeks , and all should be gone
@FreshReef
@FreshReef 9 месяцев назад
@@loopylou7813 thanks I will follow the recommendations. If I understand it correctly, both the skimmer and the media reactor should also be off. I mean, running open skimmer and no media in reactor (phosphate minus or so) for 2 weeks.

I made the mistake of buying some pretty mushrooms that had some ugly brown palys on them. Being a beginner at the time I thought cool free stuff!! The owner of the store said that he would give me the palys for free since I was buying the mushrooms. Turned out to be not cool!! Three years later, the palys are all over the place, and I constantly have to scrub the rocks to get them off. Fortunately there has been no problems with palio toxins when I scrub the palys off the rocks. They have not affected the other corals. Also, at one point in time I bought some brown star polyps, which are now also all over the place I have to scrub them down on a regular basis also. It’s really a pain in the wazoo!!

To be honest, you should put this video down. As a medical student, i think it is highly concerning that you throw antibiotics around like candy. I think you mentioned that you studied law or something? I really thought you would be smarter than that because of general knowledge and higher educating in high school i guess. German here so I hope I don't mix your school system up. You have often not even mentioned all biological solutions or have an understanding why you have certain problems.. Cyanos for examle are good at breaking up phosphorus deposits(thats why often in clean water on dirty sand) and are nitrogen fixer. Thats why cerithium snail are supposed to "eat" cyano because they have a high metabolism and offer other microbes amonia, which are than fighting against cyano. Also who the hell can't tell the difference between hair algea and bryopsis??? Hair algea are just strains of cells and bryopsis have clearly a leavy feathery structure to them if you get like 1 meter close to them. Also bryosis is mentioned in every list of typical reef tank problems.
