I'm over 60 and my experience has been negative too. I wrote to my MP and copied the letter to my journal but they don't give a f**k because they are doing exactly what it was designed to do. UC has actually made me unemployed because I couldn't afford the travel expenses to the job that I actually had (no work in my area) whereas Working Tax Credits did help previously.
Yeah I made a formal complaint though their complaint line and I got a call back from a job centre I'd never been to being all apologetic! When I finally got put through to the right job centre they just focused on fixing the easy things like how I got misinformed, and said there's nothing they or I can do about the wider issues
@@lennylaa1686 Debts left behind by Labour? Since WW2 the tories have borrowed more money when in power than Labour ever did. Governments borrow, that's how they work. It doesn't pay to keep savings in a bank...withdraw everything and do what old people did back in the day....keep it in a biscuit tin under your bed!!!!
YesMan ... Believe me, keeping money in a building full of theiving scum, ie, a bank, is far dafter than keeping it hidden in a tin.. The banks, government departments and Google all piss in the same pot with their 'linked databases' and know every move you make, before you've made it in most cases. Don't be truthful and upfront, absolutely not.. Scam them like they'd scam you given half a chance.
The job centre is not there to help you, it to get you off benefits by sanctions /finding work (sanctions is easier so they just do that). They also have targets to sanction people.
The 'Job Centre' [which is now a contradiction in terms] is there to SANCTION AND KILL YOU! It is NOT THERE TO HELP YOU FIND WORK! That is the bottom line.
If that was the USA someone would be in trouble I went through this in America but I have a right to a fair heating. Trust me I used this law toy advantage.
@@gavinpowers1217 it depends on the job centre and as you say the work coach and that goes for who ever you speak to also in the council and rent offices because everybody is different I remember I went to my chemist and ask what do I tick for my prescriptions and a pharmacist said oh I don't know...I saw another one in there and she told me don't worry just tick job seekers you are entitled to free meds on universal credit although they did not updated the prescriptions

Unfortunately the Blairites and the Jewish friends of Labour are deliberately shooting Labour in the foot because they would prefer the Tory government to a Labour Government. They hate Jeremy Corbyn so much because he campaigned against the Israeli occupation and land steal in Palestine. It doesn't help that JC(who i support) hasn't got the balls to stand up to them and has turned out to be just the same as any other politician. Is he just weak? or has he been bought out, I mean he also used to be vehemently anti EU, but not any more, even agreeing to a new referendum just to maintain support. It looks to me like the Tories are in power for a long time, and we the working class will get screwed to the floorboards, as well as the NHS will be run down and any form of welfare including state pensions will go, we will end up like America where the working class are treated like shit and the big Corporations get away scot free. And this in a time when most jobs are minimum wage, Zero hours or Gig economy work. I feel so sorry for the school leavers starting their working lives in this environment, they dont stand a chance because it will only get worse.
A good video! There are many comments condemning the host - entitled, scrounger, etc etc. However, the video is more about the process of claiming UC and the utter mess that it has created. First of all, let's get one thing straight: The whole idea of Social Security is to offer a safety net when needed. You pay into the system, and should you fall on hard times the system is there to offer help, guidance and a period of relative financial stability. UC has taken that core basis and twisted it into a one size fits all, tick box exercise. The whole system has been set up for you to fail.
I just recently had an appointment with the job centre plus and they told me, that I will not be receiving my first payment for this month due to my last month earnings. This situation has caused my borderline personality disorders/depression to get worse, and this also means I will be a month behind my rent including other bills!!!!
UC is slavery, absolute hell on earth - no respect for anyone working for the system, none of them have spoken up for the people affected by it. We should all go on MP's expenses instead.
You poor love 💕 that’s where being honest gets you. This system punishes the good people who really need help and benefits those who are able to lie and cheat with credibility. I’m over 60 and I’m truthfully unable to work anymore due to health issues. I’m on my own, no family to support me and I’m scared about the future. What do the DWP have to say? That I’m quite capable of working and don’t meet the criteria for benefits!! I know I’m one of many, and it leaves me in despair. What a cruel system run by scumbags for scumbags 😡😡😡
I feel your pain. I've just had my first experience of UC. Confusing, unsupportive and frankly I don't know I'm going to pursue it. I totally endorse your views.
It's not your fault because you received bogus advice, but your biggest mistake was applying for Universal Credit when you were moving to an area where it wasn't rolled out. It's a terrible system designed to make life more difficult, and once you're locked onto it you're *frozen* out of being able to use the old style benefit system. I'm glad this has been an eye opener for you.
@@britnic5394 A free ride? £60 a week? its hardly breaking the countries bank is it? its people who claim disability who dont need it that costs the government so much, you can get around 250 a week on PIP universal credits nothing in comparison also not everybody on universal credit is there because they want to be a lot of people genuinely need the extra help. but you sit on your high horse with your job in ya ivory tower why dont you. you want to have a go at people on benefit's? then blame progressive government's for screwing the counrty up so much that people genuinely cant afford to feed themselves properly, 5th richest counrty in the world? my arse.
@@danglingdave1787 you said yourself 'not everyone on universal credits wants to be on it, you also claim some people on disabilitiy also dont need it', thats just 2 groups of claimers... not needing it.. now think about the rest of the people claiming all sorts not needing it. think logical in todays peoples way of thinking ..
Here's my example to why this uc doesn't work. I fell ill, so started temping, last month I did 18 hours work, uc entitlement for a month is £ 317.82, just over 2 days work equated to £ 150.57, taper rate takes 63 pence from every pound earned. So £ 94.86 is taken off the £ 317.82 leaving £ 222.04. So I've worked for less than £ 30 for those days, so work does not pay under uc, it simply mugs you off and exploits you even more you already are under temp, zero hour gig economy. Flying in the face of tory rhetoric, that your better off in work or any small amount of work makes you better off.
The idea is work gives experience of work and it can lead to opportunities for better jobs. You need to get your foot on the ladder and look for something better. Staying on benefits doing nothing won't get you anywhere.
Ive found myself out of work as a single mom having to have life saving surgery and also severe sciatica. My experience with Universal Credit and ESA has been just as much as a shamble. No one seems to know what they are doing. Theres no communication between departments! They say i am not entitled to back pay because I dont have an illness or medical condition (WHAT) They have my Fit Note from GP!!! Its horrendous. And how do people get on who have no IT knowledge. So eventually they inform me of what payment I shall be getting. Once my rent and bills are paid, I shall be left with 70.00 per week for myself and my daughter to live on. Ive worked all my life and paid my Taxes and this is what the Government deem as acceptable??? I will definitely need to visit the food bank. Disgusted/Scared and heartbroken. And christmas is fast approaching. Get this Government out because they dont have any sense or any heart.
Oh that sounds awful! And it's an added stress on top of applying for jobs! The thing is I'm not sure what we can do about it, my formal complaint didn't do much!
Please contact the Disabled Information Advice Line in your area, they are often able to help in person and will help with forms and frequently sit in on assessments.
Yup, same thing with me. Savings. I even rang the Working tax credit office to get advice and they told me id be better off moving over as I fell ill and had to find support for a while. NO ONE said anything about savings. I move over only to be told I cant get it. and theres now going back, why would I move over if I didnt need to and put myself in that position?!. I am now 7 months pregnant with no money and my savings have gone down to nothing. They end up making you feel like you are a fraud or dirt on their shoe after paying taxes and myself working for the NHS for 10 years. Its not working and venerable people are loosing basic human rights. Its disgusting.
@@angiepangieization From the complaint I actually got phoned by a job centre I'd never been to, being all apologetic until I explained it was the wrong one! Once I finally got a call from the right one they basically brushed over the bigger issue of UC which I wrote about in my complaint and were just talking about upskilling staff and it was bad timing with the UC roll out. They also called me the next week to ask if I was happy with the solution! I said no, and they basically said there's nothing they can do about it. I haven't written to my MP yet
I'm currently"going through the mill" with trying to find out why last months payment was deducted by 70%, only leaving me with £80 to last the month. Don't know what the deductions were for and it's taken 3 weeks and still no answer. I just keep getting statements on my journal that have no relevance to my question. I have been told they're doing the same next month too! That £80 just about covers my bills, not counting food, just bills. This has forced me to go begging for food from the food bank. Very degrading and extremely frustrating!!!
5:20 never assume they will be reasonable. it is all lost files and drop down boxes. you should have just spent a hundred pnds & just met the threshold.
Mind-blown to the core.... I would actually apply to whatever it is that they have advised on that letter and get the benefits that you've been paying for with your taxes as you well said. Don't lose sleep over it and don't lose job interviews, but do it. It's yours and you've worked for it. I hate people taking advantage, in general, about anything, but I hate injustice just as much and a government agency that denies you an unemployed benefit just because you just moved in with your boyfriend and they want you to be dependent on him sounds crazy to me.. for so many reasons. Like being penalized because you saved some money every month while working and rewarding people that spent it all at the pub. And this makes me understand why some honest people cheats the system. FUMING!!!!
gave my driving licence number plus my passport number plus my phone number plus my bank account number plus my address plus my postal code plus some stupid code they sent me and still nothing. seems to work. I am not a computer expert. maybe it would be easier to rob a bank feeling suicidal now and wish i had not bothered!!! ecxept i cant live on just fresh air. i have worked all my life and payed tax plus NATIONAL INSURANCE... What a piss take
This is not new. My experience has been exactly the same everywhere, whether this was with the job center when I had to apply for benefits 21 years ago due to circumstances beyond my control, whether this is with the NHS, doctors, the council, police, any other government agency - same everywhere. One gets messed about, told lies left right and center, accused of not having provided documents that one has provided, evidence conveniently "goes missing", one gets accused of not being who one is etc etc. And payments of benefits get stopped all the time - oh gosh yes, the job center at the time regularly accused me of having moved to London and then back a week later (I'm in Staffordshire) - as if any sane person would constantly move to London and then back after one week! I got treated like absolute trash, treated as if I were stupid and retarded. The job center sent me on basic skills courses - to learn how to read the clock, go shopping and spell my own name. Just what I needed of course with degrees in business management, business law, accountancy, economics etc etc... But the job center refused to acknowledge my degrees and recorded me as having "no qualifications". I'm now being bullied out if my current job that I've had for 17 years and it's so serious that I don't stand a chance against the massive corporation that is still my employer, so it will be back on benefits for me. I know I won't survive this for long. I got a weak heart now from all the abuse I had to survive, and to now have to go through yet more abuse will be too much for me. I've been trying to emotionally prepare myself for the fact that my life is coming to an end but I can't help but feel sad and this sense of extreme injustice that all these decades of fighting for survival have been for nothing. And now they still win because this system will most likely be the end of me.
I hope you now understand why many people commit benefit fraud, Its not because they want to, its because they need to. If you tell the truth they will take advantage of that and you will get nothing. Unless your single with no kids don't expect an easy ride through the system.
Stumbled here by accident and it sounds like nothing's changed in 20 years ... was almost the exact same situation back in the 2000's when I had to claim JSA, DWP are morons ...

People will end up starving to death soon rather than ask for any type of benefit. It makes no sense that migrants can get £37.50 per head in each house hold, and you would get nothing, when you have contributed? You pay taxes singularly from your boyfriend so, you should get something to support yourself. Universal credit, is a universal mess! its making the poor into victims, without a voice.
Universal credit is the reason i am soo depressed now. They are not helping at all. Who's idea is this? I hope he/she can sleep at night knowing his/her idea put a lot of people in more despair than ever before.
They’ve done the same to me, hang in there. Watching this video now because The anxiety they are causing me is now making me lose sleep, I’m even having nightmares related to it. You are not alone , I strongly believe that their goal is to destroy people’s morale xxxxx
On the old system i was doing ok now £780 a mnth £340 for rent , £27 council tax on top of that bills left with £200 a mnth to live on , if i need my car fixed or any household appliances fixed im buggered its a continuos struggle i go without so my daughter can have school trips , clothes or i reluctantly ask my parents for help its a bloody shambles , to b hounest its making my anxiety worse its not living its getting through each day 😢

I am transferring to Universal Credit from Income Support in 8 wks,how can I get money to live until I get my first payment? As there is a 5 wk gap from my income Support ending and getting my first payment.
Nope, the UC is not there for anyone. Me and my husband have 4 children aged between 16yrs and 3yrs. I said my husband is self employed and is earning a good amount and I've been looking after my kids so fter theyre ll in full time school I can work. But the work coach just doesn't care, I said I got no experience as ive just been a mum since my parents got me married off so early, only did gcse. They were like ok your a mum, so you could do cleaning, we will find some hotels for you to clean, but I got a 3 Yr old I need to look after too and a 12yr old and 10yr old, they just said oh well get your mum to look after him, I said my mum is quite old and he's very energetic. So they said oh well then we can organise childcare for you so can work. And since you said you drive we can e en get you a job in stevenage as thats not on a motorway as you said you don't drive on motorways. And the fact my husband does work, was like oh we not looking at his work now, that's his work, we need to see what work your doing, basically giving me and husband a divorce from finances, as if we don't look after our house together. Nd as if we share no children. It's ultimately a heartless benefit system that cares for no human at all. it's horrible. I hate that the new government is putting so many people through so much hardships. Not helping anyone at all anymore.

The whole process and idea of Universal Credit is fucking appalling, one day this stinking government will be brought to justice, they are not fit for purpose
If the area you live in is relatively crime free invest in a safe and keep your money in there with just enough in the bank to cover direct debits then you will get UC just don't tell them you have a safe at home with your savings in it. What the DWP don't know they cannot deduct money for.

Not to make you more annoyed, but if you'd worked for the last 2 years you could have applied for contribution based JSA or "new style" JSA which is not means tested. The system is pretty poor for those that have worked.
Listening to all this is so depressing. Isn't this supposed to make things simpler and more streamlined? Sounds like you had to go through all of the things and more I've heard about applying for JSA.

Look to Polish people as an example - they will give you inspiration to leave the benefits underclass and take up a useful role in society as a tax paying citizen. They came here from a land one thousand miles away - they were work hungry and job hungry - eager to roll their sleeves and graft - they shame the indolent and idle UC brigade who have no dedication or desire or work ethic. Happy to do as little as possible - a massive bellyaching drain on society - AND you WILL be told about it!
Greg AVFC 69/70 Jones yes lots of Polish live around me and they always work. They are also all alcoholics drinking cans first thing in the morning lol. In this country there has always been a large number of people who just don’t want to work and want to sponge off the system. UC was implemented to stop this. And it has worked. I am 42 now and until UC I knew people who never worked and claimed benefits their entire life it was unbelievable. They all work now because they have no choice. However the main issue I have is that the people who genuinely do need help are all treat with the same contempt and disrespect as your average dole dosser and many vulnerable people are being failed on an industrial scale and it is sickening. It really is a double edged sword because like I say something had to be done because of the benefit culture but I think they have deliberately set up a system that is in designed to punish everyone
You do realise for people who NEED Universal Credit the fact that you both have savings equating to over 6000 kinda means you dont actually need Universal Credit...and it should probably go to people who do not have ANY savings at all, let alone 6000 pounds!!! You have the money to live on - why should you keep your savings and take money from the government which could go to others?
We experienced similar situation to you but a lot worse since they misinformed us about earnings, couple and living together and now they sought to prosecute us for their mistakes. I lost my newly appointed job because my girlfriend experienced a really bad nervous breakdown over it as she suffers from mental health issues which they are aware of. I am glad you have been given the right informations before it was too late unlike us. Universal credit is destroying people's lives.
Thank you for being so candid and honest about your experience. I’m in the process of it all now and it’s such a silly way of doing things. If in any job I’ve had I allowed things to be as delayed and unnecessary laboured the way it is I’d lose that job or be told to change how I’m doing things. My husband and I do qualify for benefits under this system than the old one which is interesting, plus my job coach has been really supportive which is a welcome surprise. But the wait for payments is brutal and the not knowing amounts doesn’t help either. Like you I’ve worked for years and paid in, so you’d think during a gap in employment there would be a system that’ works for everyone. Sorry rambling, thanks again going to check out your other vids x

I believe the problem is worse than everyone thinks, watching this video I think that UC has already failed! at least Jobseekers did help people to find work! The question I really want to ask is... [1] Does The Universal Credit system help you to find work [2] Does the Universal Credit system make it worse for you to find work or [3] Does the Universal Credit system do nothing for you. - Please comment a number.
3 - I was never asked about how my work search was going or if they could help by a universal credit staff member, it was only when I got to Glasgow where they don't have UC yet that I was offered some help but it was pretty patronising!
No....IT KILLS! Simple as that. A so-called 'benefit' that kills innocent vulnerable people IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE! But then the Tories made it that way. But their day of reckoning is coming...mark my words. They will eventually be hurled from power...the DWP may be disbanded, and there will be a paper trail of all those innocent vulnerable people who were killed by the Tories and DWP, leading right back to them. So any future investigation of those deaths, by an independent body, would know the names and the position of THE MINISTERS AND CIVIL SERVANTS WHO HAD A HAND IN THE MURDERS OF INNOCENT VULNERABLE BRITISH PEOPLE!
