When a young man truly acknowledges and processes the hurt that he feels without his father’s consistent presence( or a healthy presence) in his life one of two things happens. He either becomes an amazing father or follows in his own father’s footsteps. My generation was Kane’s generation. Many of the fathers were shouting “ that ain’t my baby” “ She a hoe! How do I know it’s mines”? Then you add the crack epidemic which meant that mothers were now getting hooked and fathers were going to prison in record numbers. We are seeing the effects of that. I always say these brothers may not understand how to be good husbands,but, they are present fathers. You see young brothers with smoked out lips and underwear showing with a baby stroller and a snuggly carrier on the front with a baby in it. They know the hurt! Forget the false narrative that the media attempts to portray about black men not being good fathers. I know great fathers! Epic Dads to be exact!

When Math started to realize that Kane is a little uncomfortable with the topic being about this love life back then he switched it up immediately. Thats the type of instinct you need as a serious interviewer. Nore would have pushed that topic into oblivion but thats why everybody loves Drink Champs its unprofessional but highly entertaining and they own that because they dont try to be professional.

Omar dropped so many jewels. IMO the best part is when he talked about once you create life it's your responsibility. I understand that women can make things difficult for men but as a man it is his responsibility to walk through the fire for his children. He doesn't have to be in a romantic relationship with that woman, but his children belong to him forever. I understood his response to Math too. We try to make sense of things and don't realize we are rationalizing trauma. Great episode!

I lost my father in ‘83 during a bombing of the Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. Ten years later, I became a US Marine myself. And the trauma of his loss and the loss of my Marines in combat, just in life loss has been big, and just now, at 47 years of age am I learning how to speak out about my traumas and fears. Thank you Math!

I can relate to this convo, it took me a long time to forgive my dad , but one day i ask myself like who is my father's dad as he never talked about his dad ever and it didn't dawn on me that my dad was suppose to have a dad i wasn't even aware, cos nobody spoke about my father’s father. I was like how come I wasn't aware that my dad was supposed to have a dad? crazy right, i felt crazy for a min . This question only came in my head 17 years later after his death. That was when I realized that he didn't have a father figure to train him so he poured his trauma on us . Sometimes our parents can only teach us what they know . plus the Nigerian hustle and bustle can lay that major league trauma on you too . Sometimes I feel like we need to ask our parents on how they were raised as that can give us an insight as to how they have their current behavior.
@2EKgn16
@2EKgn16 2 года назад
Well said about finding out about how our parents were raised. I learnt more about my mother when she drops some info from her childhood, which she never let go. As for my father, his family....my heart breaks for him. If only he came from a more loving family, who knows how far he could have gone, if he wouldn't have given up on life? At some point we have to end the cycle and surpass our parents and childhood.
@macsanatic
@macsanatic 2 года назад
@@2EKgn16 Yessir ..I think that is where we can find forgiveness if we understand how our parents were raised, then it becomes easy to deal with truama provided that we understand where they bought that perspective from and how that affects us. . Everything is perspective, the question is who instill that perspective in them and they in turn instill it in us on a subconscious level during our formative years? It's a deep fam . I realized my father never met his dad and that’s when I forgave every bad thing that he did to me . I quickly realized that he didn't know any better. He was just operating off the software installed on to his operating system by his mum because he never met his dad as he had passed before he was born, so he only just passed the information that he gathered along the way and passed it on to us . Hence why I need to go for therapy , and question everything I was taught by my parents and unlearn and relearn new information by being a parent to myself with the new information that I know now. That way, when I have my own child, I'll install verifiable tested information on my children .
@macsanatic
@macsanatic 2 года назад
@@2EKgn16 WoW Yup, we have to end the cycle by any means necessary for our selves and for the next generation and leave infomation for them that they can carry to the next generation.
