Q tip is so down to earth he used to walk around in Teaneck, NJ and speak to people. He would stop by my friend’s restaurant and two highschool girls were there and they didnt recognize him because he is low key and my friend told the girls he was Q tip and they didnt believe him and Q tip started rapping for them and the girls recognized his voice and the lyrics and screamed and it made me smile because he made those girls day. They jumped and screamed and I thought this is what the hip hop culture is all about.

That is how so many Queens artists were back then. They always came back and and we saw them everyday. They talked to us asked us about our families and school.Even at the height of their careers. They gave pool parties, basketball games, trips to great Adventure, free concerts too. This is why we always supported them.

I'm not surprised that Q-Tip said they were looking to compete against the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder or Marvin Gaye instead of their contemporaries, because that is exactly the kind of vibe their music emanated. They were like the EW&F of hip hop. They were jazzy, soulful and organic. They birthed the subgenre of "alternative hip hop," which carved a lane for guys like The Roots, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Kanye and Kendrick Lamar.

The Mc Serch was like an 1hr, I split that. THIS one, with someone whom I have marveled and idolized over since age 10, watched it the WHOLE way thru. That's how much Q-Tip means to me and I'm sure to millions of others. Thank you Abstract for EVERTHING.

@17:48. This is what separates Math's interviews from others. Most would skip over him saying that he grew up near Run n LL. Others would break the flow and ask a direct question. Math casual keeps Tip going down that lane of elaborating more

All flowers to Q-Tip.....he is undeniably a very integral part of hip hop and this is the best interview I've watched in a long time about hip hop...... the first versus I've ever seen was Swizz vs.Timbaland......not JustBlaze

I watched 40 min.. Great interview. ♾ *A Tribe Called Quest* ♾ TH4NK YOU 4 all your heART and inspiration. Yall are one of the reasons I learned how to express myself through music. Now my son, half afro half euro mut is on his own journey as a young recording artist. The vision, education, self confidence, self reflection etc he gets from exploring Hip Hop, lyricism, production and recording is priceless. I stole the 2nd Tribe album on casette from Longs Drugs in high school. Changed my life. Sorry for robbing $1 or so you guys would have spilt three ways. I bought album 1,3,4 and the recent Thank u 4 yor service one. They all will be enjoyed forever. R.I.P. Phife Dog. Thank you. Sincerely, -Nobody 🍻🦁🍻

Heyyyyy first day time show in the Shop! Looks great. Man, love the thought of ATCQ competing on a level with Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, etc. Love we getting the chance to tap into the mind of Tip reflecting.

Yo! This shit might be the best TV on TV. Shouts out to I Am Athlete and those Brothers, but I love the discourse in this shop around Art and real experiences man. Shouts out to Math breaking the 4th wall all the time, that shit is hilarious lol. Peace to all y’all too. Math keep these guests up please, keep it at home please, these niggas keep getting more and more remarkable you bring on. All the Love to you Brother.

The best was the end. The embrace and respect as black men and women we need that more than ever now. Music provides a solution in culture in ways that music can in other cultures. 🤲🏾

56:22 - This is something that I tell my kids every day. Ask questions until you understand what's being presented to you. Never say 'I understand' if you don't understand. You might get strange looks, people might judge, etc. (you don't want to look dumb, I get it) but you will look dumber when another person asks you to explain x and you can't because you never understood x in the first place.
