ive been free diving and spearfishing for the last 3 years. i have to say that even if you can go much deeper with an oxygen tank, getting under 10 meters of water on your own grants you a whole different kind of self confidence as well as you feel such inner peace...you feel like you are one with nature...its amazing

Absolutely. It feels so relaxing. Freediving teaches you to remain calm in any situation and it's absolutely great. I wish I had a sea near me. I would do freediving very often. Only got a couple chances to try it out but it sure felt amazing when I could dive like 10 meters down and then swim for like a minute at that depth watching the corals and fishes and then just go back up. It gives you absolute freedom and peace, a sport that everyone should try at one point in life.

@@xtherealesti can free dive to around 18 meters but i still struggle to stay at 10 meters and under. I just dont seem to fully relax and even though i love it and im not scared, it just feels like i gotta breathe when i get to the depths i had as a goal. Any tips for how to be able to stay for a longer time? 😅

Hi Jonne ! 😉 Sorry for insisting haha, I know the chances you answer me are low but I will try again anyway. Try the best you can to achieve what you want they say :) So here we go again : First of all I have been a huge fan for many years, I really like your content and I keep following you in your adventures. A few weeks ago you asked if there was anyone who is going on an adventure or doing a challenge, so you can document them. I’m sure you already received a lot of great ideas. But my girlfriend, our 9 months old puppy (Pinky) and I, are planning a bikepacking trip in Morocco, beginning the 16th of October and lasting around one week. Last summer we spent 1 month bikepacking from Greece to France. During this month we managed to raise money to donate 1 bike to @worldbicyclerelief. But this time we would like to have a more personal impact, so our idea was to cycle trough the north of Morocco (the exact route isn’t planned yet). And connect with the people there by giving them a sort of lucky charm : a lavender fish. This to let people know we think about them and to show that sometimes a little gesture of kindness can bring people together. Why a lavender fish ? It is because my family has a little lavender field in the South of France and they use it to create a lot of different products. My favorite one is the lavender fish which reminds me of home. On the back will also be an inspirational quote. By the way ! I’m Dutch and Pinky and my girlfriend are Frenchies. Hope you like this idea, Ophélie, Pinky and Miró :) (Ps: I sent you some photos of Pinky via your email and via our insta : mirophelie)

I did my Freediver a few years ago. I wanted to do it so bad, but when it came to going down 10 metres I panicked (I also learned the week before that I have scarring in my ear and that my skin is thinner than it should be which could lead to permanent damage). However, it was an irrational fear, since I could hold my breath long enough, but the time under water felt so long. In the end I managed to do it, but unfortunately I didn't have that much of a great experience because of my fear. I didn't enjoy the moment, I just wanted it to be over.
@slbsp3475
@slbsp3475 Год назад
You managed to achieve it despite your fear though, that’s impressive!
@cpm4317
@cpm4317 Год назад
I am having this on my radar. I am afraid to panic under water. I think I am not good at holding my breath or better to say not feeling good about holding my breath. I am.still undecided. It's nice to overcome fears (I regularly do this in the mountain) But I might not be looking for yet another experience that I might be afraid of.
@xtherealest
@xtherealest 11 месяцев назад
Everyone at the start doesn't feel really confident about their breath holding ability. You feel the urge to breathe right as you dive down and you dont enjoy the experience at all. Even with a lot of cool sea life around, because your body just constantly tells you to breathe but once your body will get a bit used to it you'll be a free man and you will start enjoying watching the sea life and being able to swim for a solid amount of time with one breath only. It's an amazing feeling when you can stay down and swim for over a minute and not feel the urge to breathe. I only get a chance to do it couple times in a year but when I do I make sure I take it because its absolutely worth it. I hope you'll be able to overcome your fear and get into freediving. Once you get the technique down and your body will be used to holding your breath you'll realize that your fear is irrational and you'll enjoy every moment of being underwater. :)

Why don't take freedivers a spare air with them as an emergency tool?
@sillah_dj
@sillah_dj 2 месяца назад
Because that would be dangerous! Your lungs volume half’s when you go down, so if you take extra air when you’re down, your lungs could explode going up. Scuba divers need to make safety stops because of this (and other reasons) before going up but free divers obviously can’t do that. So it’s actually better to ‘blackout’ and get rescued than to take air as a free diver. So never mix disciplines and never accept air from scuba diving when you’re Freediving!
@user-qq8jn5bb4m
@user-qq8jn5bb4m 2 месяца назад
@@sillah_dj There´s various reasons but yours isn´t one of them because if you breath out going up there is no issue, never hold your breath. During my submarine training we had to go up 30 meters in a tube filled with water, entering at the bottom of the tube the most important thing was to breath out, there were divers in the tank who literally smacked you in the stomach to make you breath out should you not do it. This is how AI explains it: Freedivers, who explore the depths of the ocean without scuba gear, often rely on their exceptional lung capacity and breath-holding abilities. However, carrying a spare air supply (such as a scuba tank) is not a common practice for several reasons: Risk of Dependency: Freediving emphasizes self-sufficiency and self-awareness. Relying on a spare air supply could lead to dependency, where divers might neglect improving their breath-holding skills or monitoring their own limits. Buoyancy Control: Scuba tanks add buoyancy, making it challenging to maintain precise control over depth. Freedivers prefer to adjust their buoyancy naturally by inhaling or exhaling. Streamlining: Freedivers aim for minimal drag and streamlined movement. Carrying additional equipment like a spare air tank would disrupt this streamlined profile. Safety Protocols: Freedivers follow specific safety protocols, such as having a dive buddy, practicing proper equalization techniques, and respecting surface intervals. These practices reduce the need for emergency air. Risk of Panic: In an emergency, panic can impair decision-making. Having a spare air supply might lead to reckless behavior or overestimation of one’s abilities. Depth Limitations: Scuba tanks are not suitable for extreme depths reached by freedivers. The pressure at those depths would render the air supply ineffective. Instead, freedivers focus on breath-holding techniques, relaxation, and mental preparation. They prioritize safety through proper training, understanding their limits, and respecting the ocean environment. Remember that freediving is an extreme sport, and safety should always come first. 🌊🐠
@sillah_dj
@sillah_dj 2 месяца назад
You obviously have no idea about freediving. In freediving we never ever breathe out under water - it's one of the most important safety precautions because should we blackout our lungs would immediately fill with water. If you have a lung filled with air instead, your throat closes and so you have about 1 min time that someone can rescue you and bring you up to the surface. So if you have no idea what you're talking about why don't you just take a freediving course and then talk? With your unsoliciated advise you're literally endangering other people freediving!@@user-qq8jn5bb4m
