I ran out of jazmine rice from my local store so ended up with short grain rice. So my question is will that work just fine with this recipe or should I shorten the liquid just a bit?.
Looks good. Black pepper also increases bioavailability of the curcumin in turmeric by 2000%. I always include oil and black pepper in anything with turmeric.
In the recipe she used both butter and olive oil, does the type of fat/oil influence how well the turmeric is absorbed? Is it beneficial to use butter or can one replace it with olive oil rapeseed oil for same effect of turmeric absorption?
Lego Head Well the woman in this video seemed to disagree with that as does the op of this thread as implied by the wording "also" when talking about black pepper helping with absorption.
Lego Head I have read several articles stating the same: the Curcuming is fat soluble, so consuming it with fats helps it getting absorbed into the bloodstream from the intestines rather than being prematurely absorbed through the stomach wall. I bet you know how to cook great food but your chef credentials frankly don't tell me anything about your credentials as a bio chemist or a medical doctor. If you have some links to some studies that have compared the absorption rates of Curcumin with and without fats, that would naturally be great and we would not need to rely on subjective opinions.
Thank you for sharing this Middle Eastern Tumeric Rice Recipe. In Indonesia we add lemon grass, galangal, coconut milk, bay leaf , pan dan leaf and kaffir lime leaf. Some people add star anise , cardamon, cinnamon.
I never cooked rice outside of a boil in bag until I found this recipe while looking for a good yellow rice recipe from scratch - this is absolutely phenomenal and was a HUGE HIT in my home!! I know this comment is coming in YEARS later but this video is still helping folks all over - thank you so much for sharing!!
Hey never too late, so glad you replaced boring boil in a bag with this recipe! I have plenty of other tasty and easy main entrees to serve with it which you can check out here: ru-vid.com/group/PLm5-PI4h0s4oYzPKK3tbmWGLhXqeb1rFB
I reccomend adding the dry rice and tumeric in with the garlic and shallots as they are sweating, that way the spice and the rice itself gets nice and toasted. Just and additional 45 seconds of stirring on heat.
This was absolutely delicious! Made it last night and my wife couldn’t keep from stealing it from the pot. I made it using Vegetarian chicken broth and served it with sautéed collard greens with garlic, onions, and lemon juice. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!
We Indians use turmeric in almost everything. It gives colour, a nice mild aroma and is good for digestion. A lot of people drink haldi-doodh or turmeric-milk before going to bed, it keeps your skin and stomach all happy. You can also apply turmeric on your face but it can stain your face so make sure you put milk with it. Brides in India apply a face pack of turmeric, milk, honey and chickpea flour to get the glowing bridal face. Try it once.
@@delgue3640 yeah, i use half cup of chickpea flour, 2 tsp honey, 1 tbsp of turmeric powder and mix it well, put milk according to your choice but make sure the face pack isn't very runny or thick, it should have a cake batter consistency for it to stick to your face. Let it dry for 15-20 mins and scrub it off, wash with water after that.
Super easy, super healthy, and super delicious! I believe that not only does food bring the family to the table, it brings all cultures to the worlds banquet! Thank you for sharing!
I love Middle Eastern cuisine as I got spoiled when I lived in Florence, Italy working for different cultures.... including my heritage Italian. I know authentic old school cooking and enjoy your videos very much! Thank you
I just have to tell you how awesome you are! I've literally made this rice a 100 times since watching the video, I always get comments from people saying it's the best tasting rice they've ever had. THANK YOU!
This is good with pretty much anything, chicken, beef, fish, or stews as well. I like to eat it with this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LgjZxUYSBGk.htmlsi=NSXryZW2lpzD7hgz @@badmoodism
II made this rice a while back. It was my first time actually having yellow rice of this style. I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the flavor and the recipe is simple and easy to follow. Thank you for sharing.
This is awesome thank you for sharing. I've always made my rice with onions, garlic and chicken broth and it is delicious, now I can't wait to add turmeric.
I love how simple and straightforward this it, easy for a newbie at cooking like me! And based on the testimonials of a lot of the comments down here that it tasted amazing, I can't wait to try it! Thanks for sharing 🥰
Blanche, I just made your rice for the jillionth time (thank you and your family for sharing this delicious recipe). But I made one change. I used black pearl rice for the additional nutritional advantage. It was delicious!
I absolutely loved your rice recipe. I started researching recipes that incorporate turmeric & pepper into my daily diet. I am trying to find delicious recipes mostly for my husband because he has a few health issues and your recipe is by far the best. I also made baked turmeric chicken. 2 thumbs up.
I made this tonight and my family absolutely loved it. Kept requesting more. The fact that all six of us thoroughly enjoyed it and could agree on it. Will definitely make it again.. thank you so much for sharing your family with ours!
I will say this I have watched a lot of cooking videos. And this was very very well executed and explained in perfect details. Thank you so much. And side note you really need to have your own show on the food network!!! You could very easily be the next star on there with theses cuisines. I will try this rice next time I make it.
Definitely tasty and worth making. I nearly ate the whole thing by myself, and I'll make it again for sure. For a greater depth of flavor, I'd recommend toasting the rice with the spices before adding the stock. Thanks for this delicious recipe.
Notes for myself 4 cloves minced garlic finely minced shallot 1 cup jasmine rice 2 cups chicken broth 1 tsp turmeric 1 tbsp butter 1 tsp salt 1 tbsp evoo ---- 1. Heat up pan. 2. Add 1 tbsp evoo and 1 tbsp butter. 3. When oil/butter mixture bubbling, add garlic and shallot. Only mix for about a minute don't want to burn. 4. Add 2 cups low sodium chicken broth, salt, and turmeric. Wait for it to boil. 5. Add rice. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
Thank you so much for not forcing us to sit through watching you mince the aromatics and just getting to the point. If I have one more recipe video make me watch them chop an onion for over 60 seconds...
Thank you so much for this recipe! It looks extremely delicious! I come from an Indian community in Durban, South Africa and my Mum used to make this rice quite often and it was very, very tasty!....yes agree, turmeric has so many uses and definitely health benefits.
I made it this weekend for a dinner party. IT WAS A HUGE HIT! Good baseline rice recipe. If desired, it's easy to add this or that for a personal spin on the flavor. It went perfect with the chicken I grilled. Thank you for sharing this simple recipe!
I keep coming back to this recipe in my family fell in love with it. I fell in love with it and over the last couple few years. I’ve been coming back over and over and over to this video. It is an amazing dish. I usually cook peas and then maybe out a few on top just that pop of the peas in my mouth with the race is really pretty good companion and yeah, it’s a great side for any dish in my opinion.
I just found your channel and I love it so much! I'm vegan and middle eastern food, particularly lebanese, syrian, and iraqi cuisine is my favorite. Fyi in a lot of american supermarkets there's a product called "better than bouillon", and it comes in a vegan "chicken" flavor. I will use it when I try this recipe! Thanks so much for this channel! One of my new favorites :)
Thank you, Blanche! Just discovered your channel. Love it!! My best friend in junior high school was Armenian. Her name was Lydia. Anyway, my daughter and I just discovered basmati and jasmine rice this past summer in Greece, and we love it! Can't wait to try your really delicious looking recipe with the turmeric. Thanks also for the health info about turmeric.
Nice recipe. I am from India ( now a Canadian) and yes, we use turmeric a lot in India. The vegetable pulav in India is made much the same way, with ginger, garlic, turmeric and veggies...thanks for the recipes....Blanche Shaheen seems a portmanteau French-Persian word...'white,whiteroyal falcon"!!!:):):)
I am so excited to make this later today. Haven't had Middle Eastern yellow rice since my grandmother made it for me when I was a kid. I can taste it already.
My mom, RIP, used to make yellow rice that I believe was very similar but included coconut. It was delicious. She is Indonesian.edit: she was born in Indonesia but was French, German and Chinese. My dad was Dutch.
@@LilyAmongThorns That's one more than me; I'm truly English; however my Swiss based daughter does speak 3 and learning Japanese What wonderful ancestry you have, I suspect you are a wonderful cook; my regards to you.
Delicious !! This is my fav us Indians call it Khichri. I love turmeric rice, we have it with a veg dish containing spinach, potatoes, peas n tomatoes 👌
I like this recipe the best because it doesn't require as much ingredients. I also add cumin along with the tumeric for this style. Other videos I've seen by Indians they use a lot of other ingredients like cinnamon, cloves, and star anise, which is good too but I save more money with this version! lol.
Lovely recipe! I also used some onion in this recipe, along with black pepper. to taste and boost the turmeric. We enjoyed this dish very much. Thank you for showing the secret to colorful rice.....the mystery is solved. God bless your family.
Found your recipe and channel last night while searching for “yellow rice”. We made your recipe to go along with some grilled chicken and vegetable kabobs. The rice was the hit of the meal! We both loved it. So easy to make! Thanks for sharing!!
Oh yes! One of my favorite family recipes, simply called "chicken and rice". Just like this pretty much but with chicken, bone-in, of course! Lol. Brown chicken thighs in garlic and stick 'em in the roasting pan with dry white rice and consommé soup. Oh, so easy. I can always eat so much of it, too, it's just so perfectly simplistic; no fuss deliciousness! Thank you for sharing. Love, love, love. 🙏💕
I'm Italian and ate pasta for years. As of a month or so ago i went to Jasmin rice...love it...will give this a try tonight...I meal prep and adding the turmeric makes a huge difference. thanks for the vid!
Tried this. Very garlicky using four large cloves of garlic. I used a no-salt broth a 1t salt as called for in the recipe. I would cut the salt in half and use 3 cloves of garlic instead of four.
Middle Eastern Rice Ingredients 1 Tbsp butter 1 Tbsp olive oil 4 cloves of garlic, minced 1 shallot, minced 2 cups chicken broth 1 tsp salt 1 tsp powdered turmeric 1 cup Jasmine rice Sprig of parsley Dash of fresh ground pepper (to complement turmeric) Directions In a large, heavy bottomed pot, on medium heat, add butter and oil. Once the fat is bubbling, add garlic and shallot-stir and sauté for no more than a minute (you don’t want it to burn). Add chicken broth, salt, and turmeric-stir and bring to a boil. Add rice-cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is fluffy. Plate rice, garnish with a sprig of parsley and a dash of fresh ground pepper-enjoy.
Hello Blanche I've been craving your garlic turmeric rice for a while I made it before and I absolutely love it I'm making a batch of it right now oh yes I had a little black pepper to it to increase absorption of the turmeric Hope you're doing well and your family can't wait for a new video take care
I make it a little bit different, toast the rice as well with the onions and garlic first. Then add the water or broth. Oh, did you know that the reason they use parsley with a lot of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes is to balance the garlic flavor? Yes. You are supposed to eat the parsley as well, it is not there for decoration.
Exactly, that was what I was going to say, and after the rice is toasted for a few seconds, I add the hot broth or just boiling water. But I'm going to try Blanche's method, as her recipes work.
I always do that. I stir the rice a bit while it's toasting so each grain gets the oil/butter on it. That prevents the grains from sticking together and gives a nice texture. Blanche is a great cook and I really believe in the health benefits of turmeric. Just made it. This recipe is a keeper. Turmeric and garlic are BOTH good for the immune system.
I have been meaning to leave a comment about this rice it is so awesome I actually shared it with my sister today thank you and thank your mom too 🥰🥰🥰🥰 my family loves it!!!
