Nice setup. Thanks for the tour. The cat are ready for breakfast. My equipment has to stay out also. Maybe one day I’ll get a shed. Stay warm. Thanks for sharing
It would be nice if this would be our only snow for winter, but global warming hasn't hit here yet! Thanks for watching, I hope you have a great day, Lynette and Peter
Great informational video Lynette and Peter. My grandparents milked but didn't have a parlor like yours. In the barn. (Not by hand, but by machine. Although, grandpa would sometimes start them by hand. Maybe to clear wax I'm not sure. Warm water and a brush to clean them with). Carried the "milk" from the barn to the milk house. (Separate from the barn). Assemble the separator and start separating. If milk prices were low, grandpa would pour what they couldn't use out in the hog trough. The cream went into cans, (always fresh cream in the house). If the electricity was out, cranking the separator by hand wasn't much fun. They would bring the cream, honey, (in the summer), and eggs to Sioux City IA. I can't remember the name of the place they sold to, it is no longer there. It is now part of a Hard Rock Casino. Oh the memories you have just brought back. Thank you for that. MB BAR RANCH
Martin, I love to hear your memories! They warm my heart! Peter always predicts that there may come a day that dairy farmers will have to separate their milk before it leaves the farm! Have a great evening, Lynette and Peter
I really enjoyed this video! You guys have a great set-up there. Seems to be a perfect size for just a few people to manage. We got 12 inches of snow- maybe I should come visit you since you only got a few inches! lol
Wow, 12 inches of snow! I am really over winter already lol! I would love to be a snow bird( well, if we could take our cows with us), but that wont happen, so I just keep whining and pushing myself out the door lol! Have a great weekend, Lynette and Peter
Looks cold out! I miss milking in a parlour sometimes. It gives you time to think about things. Well, I guess robotmilking isn't that bad either 😅 Grtz from the netherlands
Yes, we've thought about a robot many times! Peter and I milk all of our 25-40cows in less than an hour, so for now we just solve all the worlds problems a couple of times a day! I love the idea of robots though, they would offer so much freedom! Have a great night, Lynette and Peter
Wow u guys are getting winter too! I'm not ready for winter to come at all! You guys have a really good butter fat & protein. I know what u mean about getting paid more the bf & protein. We started feeding our cows sodium bicarbonate to help raise the butter fat up because they are paying more for that then the actual milk. Yes oneloneyfarmer can really get to talking and has a lot good points to make about different topics. Anyways thanks for the barn tour. I always enjoy seeing how someone else does things. Take care & talk later, Paul
Good Morning Paul, That's a really good idea to feed Sodium Bicarbonate( we should do that too), there are times that these cows will just attack the salt block and I think they are really needing to buffer something in their diet! We feed free choice minerals, but that is really interesting that Sodium Bicarbonate will help raise the butterfat! We are always learning here!
Actually our milk goes off farm to be pasteurized; we would love to have a small processing plant, but for now we ship it to a plant about thirty miles away! Thank you for your great question, have a great night, Lynette and Peter
Thanks for the tour . Very nice. What is the pay price for cwt $ grass-fed milk ? I've heard organic prices have dropped off. How many gallon is your bulk tank ? Thanks again for sharing
Good evening, sooo, we would love to get the grass fed pay price, but unfortunately we currently dont have a market for grassfed! Our milk does go certified Organic though and our base price is $25! We do get quality premiums and compensation for bf and protein( the base is based on 3.8 bf and 3.2 protein)! Our bulk tank is a 1000gallon bulk tank and we actually have room in the barn for 90cows( we currently milk around 26-35)! Thank you so much for asking great question, have a great evening, Lynette and Peter
It would totally be more production with corn silage! We used to feed grains and corn silage! We ourselves had a whole host of craziness that went along with feeding corn! We had cows with feet problems as well as other problems with mycotoxins in our feed( not all the time, but it was a constant worry)! Our grass that we feed is a whole bunch of different species of legumes and grasses that hopefully give the girls a really complete diet( we do make balage with quite a bit of our hay) We have better luck now with strong hearts and zero foot problems! So we wont say we wont ever buy grain again, This was a really great observation and question! I hope you have a great day, Lynette and Peter
