two videos from kat already in 2021?* *is shook** maybe kat gracing us with her presence will save the year...fingers crossed 🤞 we missed you miss o'Keefe
OH HAIKYU!! i got into the anime during the second half of this year, watching it twice back to back. now i'm collecting all the mangas so i can read them, while trying to restrain myself from watching the whole anime again. i love everything about haikyuu soo much it makes me happy to see it caused a very bright spot in 2020 for you as well! Edit: i also would literally be so happy to watch literally any kind of haikyuu analysis from you akdjasjk
KAT I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD I AM CRYING BLOOD TEARS WHEN HAIKYUU WAS YOUR TOP #1 FAVOURITE THIS YEAR... IM FCKING OKAY... 2020 HAS BEEN FORGIVEN.. IM CRYING... PLEASE MAKE HAIKYUU VIDEOS!!! ID WATCH THEM THRICE EVERYDAY 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 IM SO HAPPY SO SO HAPPY
I’m book shopping and NEEDED this list from you, my most trusted source. TY! Been watching for years, your content and thoughts always make me happy. Hope you feel comfortable being back, we missed you! (Esp over at katyvlogs...lol)
@@rchlfth_reads It's a spinoff of a previous series, so I would suggest starting with the infernal devices(there are three books) then the chain of gold as we follow the next generation from the previous series.
I read Howls Moving Castle this year too and it's on my favourites list as well! And I started watching Kamisama Kiss on your recommendation recently and loving it :)
volleyball-as-magic-system is seriously big-brain stuff. Amazing. I've only watched the first couple of seasons of Haikyuu and I think I need to read the manga
Made the mistake of watching this video with my girlfriend who has been trying to make me read/watch haikyu since forever. She knows your book recs are often my fave/go-tos. She has weaponized this knowledge against me now. Also if you like Diana Wynne Jones she has another series called the chronicles of crestomanci and I think you'd really like it. It's a parallel worlds thing v good v good.
in one week, 2 videos from Kat, i finally bought a new(er) car, and i actually had a decent experience shopping at walmart today??? i'm scared, mostly by the last one. *watches for incoming meteor*
AH HELLO LOVELY HUMAN! It's good to see your face and hear your voice again! I know 2020 wasn't easy for anyone, and I can only imagine how difficult it was trying to slog your way through all the things and manage your time/be productive when it was just essentially impossible to be a functional human (lol my ADHD @$$ can relate A LOT!). But YAY for this lovely video, it was wonderful and I'm glad you had such a great reading year! (And may I once again say how much I appreciate you talking about fanfic and how much you've gotten into it cuz it just means heckuva lot to me and when people sh!t on it I get !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Sending you so much love, hugs if you want them, and so many good vibes for a successful wonderful fulfilling 2021!!!!!
Mine would probably be between The Eve Illusion, the fourth Warhammer Adventures' (putting them together because I can't pick a favourite and Avenging Son. The latter if only for the craziness of its 5/6 chapter final battle followed by the equivalent of Gandalf's "Battle For Middle-Earth" speech in The Two Towers movie. I'd include Burn by Patrick Ness but considering I finished it in 2021 that feels like it'd be a bit of a cheat
Yessss Haikyuu is amazing. U should try watching kuroko no basket (also intense in sport and friendship dramas). & just wanted to say im currently reading Carry on bc of u (and having sm fun!!)
This is so relatable, I can't even. I literally formatted and printed a pretty floral hardcover OF FANFICTION during quarantine last year via nook press (I uploaded snippet of it if anyone's curious). Honestly, more of us should be doing this. Some of the best writing I read the whole year was fanfiction on ao3 lol.
Kamisama Kiss is one of my favorite series ever! though admittedly, I only got about halfway through the manga before I got pulled away from reading :( so my goal this year is to read the whole series because it was sooooo cute and so good! idk if you’ve read Yona of the Dawn but that was one of my fave reads this year that gave me a similar feeling at least in how I absolutely could NOT put it down (though it’s still ongoing) and about Howl’s Moving Castle, I remember seeing on tumblr someone saying that the movie is how Howl experienced the events, and the book is how Sophie experienced them, and I’ve been losing it since
The House in the Cerulean Sea was my favorite book last year. The way I’ve never felt so connected to a main character like Linus was so eye opening and the way I want a love like the one in this book. Also, the kids were so cute and Chauncey was just so adorable!!! 🥺🥺
kat, you'd probably like all for the game. it's basically sports manga, but it's novels about a fictional sport and the runaway son of a mob boss who stops running so he can play it even though it means he's probably signing his death warrant
YESS HOWL MOVING CASTLE!!! I legit reread it twice in 2020. I actaully made a whole video chatting about the way the book and movie complement each other, they're both just so beautiful.
Great vid! A lot of manga reading for sure. I haven't read manga. I haven't finished watching either of those anime shows. BUT I did just finish watching The Legend of Korra, and last year started reading right before 2021, Avatar the last Airbender: The Promise part one and two. (Not anime, but close enough).
lmao I had the same journey with Haikyu! I started the anime with like zero expectations and was like I'm not into sports, this probably won't be for me. Now I'm completely obsessed and feel so emotional about these volleyball boys uggghhh! I need to check out the manga. Also, if you haven't checked out Koroku's Basketball, I'd recommend it! It has similar vibes to Haikyu!
Soooo convinced for house in the cerulean sea and kamisama kiss!!! Thanks for this list, love that you include all genres!!!! Wishing you all the blessings for the new year 💝💝
I'm most definitely going to give The House in the Cerulean Sea a try because SO MANY PEOPLE recommended it to me. If you like his style, i think you might want to read his Wolfsong, another of Klune's works, in which the protagonists are gay werewolves!
the fact that haikyuu is here and in first position makes me SO HAPPY but also i can't imagine reading it without it completely taking over one's life it's just THAT good
An anime, that I love that doesn't have an ending that I want to read the Manga for is Yona of the Dawn. It's also around a 25 volume series, and I don't know if it's completed yet. But I need it in my life because I need to know how everything plays out.
OH MY GOSH I just binged all four seasons of the Haikyu! anime and now I want to read the manga while I wait for season 5 but you scared me with your comments about the final arc LOL.
I get so excited when you recommend your favorite books! I always end up loving what you suggest. I’m so happy part of your 2020 was consumed by Haikyu!!! Same for me. I love it so much 🥺
i actually read the full manga! the anime is a pretty faithful adaptation so you could probably just start with later volumes if you want, but a few storylines are different and it was interesting to see the changes!
I’m really glad you enjoyed Haikyuu so much!! It’s one of my favorite manga and stories in general, so I’m always excited to see others talk about it (the final arc killed me too haha) ❤️ great list Kat!!
We definitely count manga! I wish we could count fanfic too! (It’s so hard to track. Do we try to track by word count?! 😂) Chain of Gold! ♥️ I started The Murderbot Diaries in 2020 and loved the first one!
i believe it's classified as a middle grade, but only because it came out in the 1980s before YA existed as a genre! most of the characters are late teens / early twenties!
0:33 Father? Dead. Mother? Died of pneumonia Brothers? Killed by the plague Dog Pogo? Run over by a carriage goldfish Goldie? Eaten by the cat The Cat? Chocked on the goldfish
We have three same favorite books 2020: The house in the Cerulean sea, Howl's moving castle and Murderbot series. I recommend you to read Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. I think you will enjoy Legendborn.
Kat starts the video talking about how much she loves a series about portal fantasies and then later on references a plot twist in Howl's Moving Castle... I wonder what that twist could be? ;) (I looooooved that twist so much partly because of a personal connection to it - describing this without saying it outright is hard) Highly recommend The Dark Lord of Derkholm for any Diana Wynne Jones fans! It's so good :D
*considers her fanfiction habits, then nods* Yes. Yes, I absolutely understand what you mean about "if fanfiction counts, then I had the BEST reading year!" because that is MY reading year too. And it has been for several years now. .... Also, I would like to join my voice to the chorus of people requesting a video on your fanfiction habits. Because I would like to have some confirmation that I am not the only one who reads WAY too much of the stuff.
also read the haikyuu manga in 2020, fully agree that the storytelling, characters and volleyball games are phenomenal !!(and the final arc is a sudden switch up😭)
god the final arc...... so much changed so quickly i was OVERWHELMED i did not know how to process but once i got used to the new situation i loooooved it the ending was beautiful i cried
