I like to use an x spread so you have four possible landing zones if the wind changes throughout the morning

Hey man could you do a part two? And tell what kind of ducks you put in the spread. And you could probably make it look better by using an aerial photo of a lake. It would be awesome an awesome video and help new hunters like me. Thanks man!

We set up 6 avian x decoys and 2000 cacklers in to our spread and we just threw them in a corn field and it worked good

When birds start to get decoy shy mainly late season field, I do what I call a junkpile spread. All it is is a mass of decoys right in around that blinds in front, behind and to the side of the blind like a big ball. Then a line out each side and maybe a pod in the back 15-20 feet, and a small pod 15 feet or so out in front to try to take the eyes away from the blind. Finish with motion around the blinds. You really need to have good cover for this because with the motion at the blinds the eyes will be on you.

I set up my decoys how the birds were when i scouted them. ducks don't need a massive hole to land into. i've never used any particular shape of spread in my life

One good spread I do specially in marsh and big lakes is a M shape it has proved to be a good spread for me and I have found when I do that it actually had given 3 land zones

On a cross wind we just set up A big wall of decoys on either side of the blind and put the mojos where we want them to land . I haven't ever tried the pods thing , but I think I will try it . Other than that I do the same. Great video

How do you set up a spread using both duck and goose in a field together?
@iandeming9933
@iandeming9933 2 года назад
Put the geese behind your blind if you're hunting duck, they usually don't intermingle, and the ducks love to see geese near by, it'll make them feel safer

I set up the spreads almost exactly how you do only I put the flappers on 6foot poles and place them behind the landing hole. Heck yeah on the saltwater fishing.

Had luck in fields for geese in the X pattern with the blind in the bottom pocket and 3 openings for them to land in.

Where do you place goose floaters at in any of the spread s?
@fowledhunts9555

I personally hunt very large water usually and run large spreads. When setting 12 dozen decoys even if u start with a spread design by the end it just looks like a bunch of ducks. Typically I just set out the decoys close along the sides of my blind with lower amounts of decoys in “the hole” but I never leave area with no birds and I always put my motion (jerk cord or motion spreader) in the place I want them to land along with a mojo or flappy

My first two ducks I shot came from 4 mallard decoys 3 male 1 female

so dose it matter if you mix your decoys? like pin tails with mallards ect.

Good video! How to you set them up if there is no wind? Went hunting last weekend and there was no wind. Wasn't sure how to set them up.
@illinoissportsman5926
@illinoissportsman5926 6 лет назад
Aaron Roberts- pods seem to work best but make sure you have some kind of motion! Jerk cords on flat water are duck magnets!

So since I hunt by myself a lot and don't like to drag all of my stuff to my favorite ponds (200 yards with a sled full of 3-4 dozen decoys isn't a fun walk) I use a minimal decoy strategy. I take 4 hens 1 drake and 1 drake mojo. I pair up a drake and hen then about 15-20ft to the left or right I put my other 3 hens and the mojo a little further out from them. It brings in a lot of green heads looking for mates.....and teal....because it seems like teal will literally decoy into anything.

Being new to waterfowl hunting. My question about decoys is, what type of duck do you use in your spread? Is it just one type of duck or do you use multiple types? Thanks Matt B.
@cameronharrison4777
@cameronharrison4777 6 лет назад
Matt Beauvais it can depend on where you are from. But most people only use mallard decoys and you can never go wrong with mallards. Mallards Bro.
@bobo6486
@bobo6486 6 лет назад
It all depends on the hunt scouting is the biggest key to success. I have friends that swear by the J or We spread. But I feel like that is for spots you don't know how the birds sit. We always throw out geese decoys with ours but on the other side of the point we sit at with big gaps between them geese like space. But the ducks we put closer together enough room to move in the water but not touching. Just be careful with the J spreads it's a good way to shoot decoys.

Where I'm from we always throw 3 or 4 woodies in a pod of there own with the mallards

Being from the central flyaway area I use a some teal deks as well as a few pentail along with my mallards. Though honestly, it really depends on the birds you have flying through your area. To start off with half a dozen mallards should be pretty inexpensive and then while you are out there this year just pay attention to what is flying. Maybe add a few of them for next year.
