Kept this list short for this video! Just stocks i'm consistently buying and using for work. Some other stocks I don't usually use for my client work - but LOVE and didn't mention in the video: Kodak Gold (35mm and 120) Kodak Ultramax Kodak Colorplus Lomo CN400 Lomo Lady Grey Ilford Delta 3200 Fuji FP3000B and FP100c (I was focusing on 35mm and 120 film in this vid, but these are exellent instant films that isn't made anymore) Portra 160 (pretty much never shoot this Portra but whenever I do i'm like...."why don't i shoot this more" Fuji C200 (not sure if this is in production anymore) Please share your favorites in the comments! Always love hearing what y'all are shooting :)
my favorite films at the moment are Superia Xtra, Ektachrome 64T/100D, Vision3 250D/500T, HP5! primarily shooting between a Minolta A-9 and a Graflex SLR
came here for film recommendations as i'm a digital photographer recently trying 35mm to improve my skills. but just wanna say some of your images are absolutely stunning, gonna follow you on socials now. good work man
Recently discovered your channel and even though I have little to no interest in film shooting, I'll keep coming back! Some damn incredible images in your portfolio
Love all of those! But my favourite are still Fuji's actual C200, Pro160 and Pro 400H. (I was lucky to have quite a bit of all those stocks in the freezer still, most of which is Pro 400H)
My friday is saved! so stoked about weekly uploads, your videos are so inspiring, and the quality is always excellent. Plus you’re just such a nice, awesome guy!!
This is sooo helpfull Linus! Especially if one has not shot much film yet but wants to go into it. It's nice to see the many exmaples you provided aswell! One thing I noticed and that kept my jaw wide open, is how good you nailed the exposure on the black and white shots - my god, they were perfect. Did you make a video on nailing exposure already? Very interested in how you manage to shoot these high contrast scenes and what you meter for and also with what you meter.
I'm curious to know if you've have tried some Cine Film Stock like the 250D or 500T? Or even Fuji Eterna? Those are very interesting to shoot in controlled studio settings. As always your creativity and colour management are superb Linus. Great video, even if I already knew/used those film stocks it's a delight seeing your work mate 🙌 👏
great selection i love them all, except 400d , could not get the results i wanted from it. One film i love too is Gold 200 , specially for personal stuff.
Maybe not everyone will agree (probably even no one, haha), but I still love the vibes of good old Kodak Gold on 35mm, especially in summer. Keeps those early memories of family vacations up, while also keeping me from going broke, haha. Loved the video, as always!
Haha, no worries at all, mate! I guess that is just the pro and con of shooting professionally. Portra appears to be somewhat of an industry standard at the moment and you can often times not sell using a consumer grade film, like Gold, to a client that hired you for professional work. And of course Portra looks gorgeous, so I would definitely shoot it as well when someone else pays me to do so! :D@@linusandhiscamera
I tried Tri-X for the first time since Kodak lowered the price and it's probably all I am going to shoot for awhile. With a scanning workflow it doesn't look that much different than HP5. I think the extra bite and sharpness in the Tri-X grain is definitely worth it the extra 50 cents.
I think lomo 800 would be more popular if it was ever available for purchase. Admittedly I live at the ends of the earth but I can never find it in stock anywhere.
thanks man! i like 400H, but since they don't produce it anymore i just don't seek it out. i stick to using stocks that are still in production because for a lot of professional work i only use fresh film
