There is some heavy duty knives made by Spyderco. My favorite is the Manix 2, I have 4 different styles of it. It doesn't have a cheap liner lock either. Those are the weakest type of locking mechanism. I have ZT's too but like Spyderco more. I love the blade shapes and the full flat grind.

I have carried quite a few ranging from Cold Steel to Emerson to Microtech. My favorite for just around the town is a Benchmade Bailout. It’s simple, super thin, and I’m a sucker for tanto. If i’m going out in the woods or need something more heavy duty, I use my Emerson. For me, knives are tools and not really defensive implements. I carry a gun for that.

Great video 👍 I like the Benchmade Mini Griptilion, basically it’s a sharp finger, three inch drop point, with a mechanical lock on it. I have broken down and processed several Elk with it and it works fantastic for that and daily work on the ranch

Great video, Chadd! My father always carried a folding knife on him. And now I do. Mostly for self defense because I am a Security Officer and also I am pro-defensive. To carry around a folding knife that I can flip the blade out with one finger from my knife hand without taking my eyes off of the threat, that's my ticket to ride, Brother! As an American I can certainly carry a knife! Keep up the good work, Chadd!

Love Spyderco product! When I’m looking for a knife I look at Spyderco first and then stop. 😊 The only other knife I commonly carry is a Ka-Bar TDI with serrated edge. I keep the “holster” on my off-hand side in case I need to slash at an arm or something in a close encounter. The only other non-Spyderco knife I have is an Ontario Knife reproduction M7 bayonet (is it a reproduction if they were the original makers?) that I got for my reproduction Colt 601.

I can confirm how amazing that Shay Butler knife is to use. Since I won one that was given as a prize for the fundraiser, I have been using it everyday. It has no lateral flex at the joint, insanely sharp, straight blade design, I like the thumb spur for flipping out the blade, I like it better than the blade button on the Emerson I carried for years. The locking mechanism is VERY solid, as is the belt clip, you will need some aggressive action to bend it. I also alike that the knife is skeletal to the point you do not get that build up of pocket lint or dirt in the knife. I plan on buying a second one later this year for certain. If I had one dislike, it would be very minor, it is a little heavy for a dress knife, i.e. carrying with you in Church or business clothes, it can get some movement walking due to the mass.

I keep a folder in my bag but my main go to knife is always one of my microtech knives they take a beating and just keep going 👍 you can literally beat on the microtech knives and they dont collapse. The knife you showed is nothing like microtech microtech is a manufacturer not a type.. the first knife you showed is called an OTF out the front knife. You can hammer and pry on a microtech and they hold up. Get one and try it.. there numerous videos showing the abuse a microtech otf knife can take they are specifically built for emergencies

One thing to note about that OTF/ “Switch blade” is that it may be very illegal in some states, make sure to check your local laws. I personally have been carrying an old, orange handle, HC Solingen, Stihl folding knife. It doesn’t have a pocket clip or a blade lock, but for my uses I haven’t found anything better. P.S That custom knife looks almost identical to an Ontario RAT 2 in D2 steel, I’d definitely recommend the RAT series.

If you get a chance, try a mcnees mac 2 3.5. It's expensive, but it's a tank. It's become my one hard use knife. It has properly treated magnacut, and the blade geometry makes it a great slicer. There are many good knives, but also so much junk. The Chinese knives have gotten so expensive, and the heat treat is always sub-par and soft.

1 knife for life? If your not sharpening them enough to wear them out in 10 years or less, or losing them your doing something wrong. A buck 110 with sv30 steel and g10 scales for the workhorse, and a cold steel finnwolf for lightweight back country excursions cant be beat. Both are affordable and durable. Then when you lose them or sharpen the blade to a thin sliver they affordable to replace. Love your channel bro. God bless
