Truly one of the best videos in this category that I've seen. Informative, right balance/level of detail and great explanation. Someone who really knows what they're doing. You just got a new subscriber. I'm probably going to go with the Costco Body Glove Performer iSUP and the RA220 perfectly raised seat. Want the versatility to somewhat comfortably use for fishing as well.

Not sure how this came into my feed but glad it did. Been thinking about getting the first one from HALA as at this point I am probably 85% sitting. I am also very large so really glad you added that into this video. I don't mind just sitting on the board but yes I am always wet and yes my back starts to hurt some but that is when I just lay back for a bit or stand or kneel. Never thought of these others and my only question would have been how much are they in the way when switching positions. Awesome job and thanks for saving me the money on one that sounds like I would have hated.

Thx a mil. Great presentation, great comparison. I'm the example of the buyer who got tempted by soft chair being included in the package. The truth is, I don't use it at all. Neither do my daughters, as the chair turns SUP into one person board rather then 2 ppl. Wish I saw your video before. Great work mate!

Really enjoyable videos! I wanted to add another seating alternative I used to use in my Meyers Sportspal Canoe, just a folding blade footed lawn chair. Similar to a Larry Chair but a bit higher seating. So, with my new inflatable SUP, I did order its available kayak seat but decided to buy a Pooya Folding Camping Chair from Wayfair (cheaper than a kayak seat and free shipping). It is rated to 265 lbs. and I have yet to receive it but I think it'll work great. So, for someone who wants to fish and paddle primarily standing but wants to sit down to re-tie or eat lunch or fish sitting, this is a good and light alternative to add to, say, a cooler seat. This one weighs 6 lbs. and can be strapped to a SUP just like any other. I'm here in Texas, will let you know how it works out.

I just wanted to let you know that Walmart sells a cheaper $20 version of the stadium seats, all the first 3 varieties, actually. The issue is that it has a bar on the top of the seat back, so it'll probably end up hurting after a while is my guess.

Very informative, just got vinyl solid/soft(webbing) dinghy handles for the additional four attachment points, have to add d-rings to the webbing ones, now i know I will add cushion pocket to at least one of the two cheap type that came with the cheap kayak, but won't be used other than a towable, as the cheap deal kayak($100.can) was just the cheapest option for seats and paddles to use with the far preferable (14psi)SUP ($236.can) that now thanks to your information, will be more safe and comfortable than heavier (0.7psi)kayak, good advising, for my near future industrial sewing(adding d-rings to glue-on patches, and additional height pocket for soft fold up seats) of course gonna glue the patches to my high-end home-depot discount SUP. I'm dumb, but I'm not a dweeb!

I've been thinking of going with a sit on top kayak for a while, but now I'm leaning towards an inflatable sup, I can just leave it in the car after it dries, no strapping to the roof. Get one of these chairs, add some kind of pedal power, plus I might try out the standing up position when I get my sea legs.
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy the time on the water :) An inflatable Paddleboard will need a little deeper water (4-6” more) than a sit on top kayak, as a Paddleboard has a rear fin that goes deeper in the water than a kayak. Besides that, there isn’t much difference between the two options. Go with what works best for you!

You seem to be forgetting a very important factor -- and this is just as relevant to SoT or sit-inside kayaks: the paddler's ability to sit upright on their own. I have always had the flexibility to do that. For me the best seatback is the smallest, providing the least support. I've seen too many cases where a large high setback gets in the way of everything.

Thanks for this. I have a question you might or might not be able to answer. I have an Airvolution 2 rigid inflatable kayak (drop stitch construction, much like a paddle board). Do you think the pressure of the base rail of the BKC seat is going to wear on the kayak floor? I’ve only had the kayak out for a couple of 3 hr paddles and I’ve already decided a seat upgrade is an absolute must. Cheers. - Tom
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 2 года назад
Hey @TomDearie the floor of your Airvolution2 looks to have a 2-layer PVC base, so that's a strong start. I don't see the denier listed (basically the weight or thread-count of the material) but based on the price its probably not the cheap stuff you see on $250 paddleboards. I'd say you should feel safe with almost any other seat in your inflatable kayak, but if you do get something like this one here, amzn.to/36I3fIx or here amzn.to/3nFxBzQ , just (1) be sure to secure the seat to those d rings well so the seat doesn't rub back and forth much and (2) consider getting a small piece of EVA foam to put under the back corner of the seats because most the weight will and rubbing will be there.

@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
Hey, good question. The trouble with locking any of your paddling gear is the things you would attached a lock or cable to are soft materials like handles or straps - which can be easily cut. You may be better served by getting a simple tracking device like this and being able to help the police trace whoever stole your stuff: amzn.to/3AOeRa3

@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
You have 3 options: 1 get the d-ring patches and glue which would work fine but not jive with the color of your board. The good news is the D-Rings can be added easily. You can buy different color patch D-Rings like these: amzn.to/3Pddu8L and the glue like this amzn.to/3P7ARAq to add them on yourself. Option 2 is use strap tie down all around the board. Option 3 is try it without latching down the seat. I’ve used the seat without securing it down and it’s not a big deal.

Not sure how you feel about this versus a kayak. I’m debating if I should get an inflatable kayak or sup w/chair for travel. I love sitting in my kayak!!
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
Hi, If you don't intend to use it as a stand-up paddleboard, and only plan on sitting down, then a kayak tends to be able to handle better in shallow water than a paddleboard with a deep 8" or longer rear fin. A stand-up paddleboard with a seat is an good kayak, but not a great kayak. If you want a great kayak, you'll need to spend a little money on a good inflatable or solid kayak. If you want a great combo of versatility and price, an inflatable paddleboard with seat is good.

That's a good board. I think gluing a D-Ring to a board is fine, just don't let the extra glue that squeezes out the side stay and make a mess. @texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
You can easily stand with all of them. When I stand with any of them, I stand in front of the chair about 4-8 inches. The first type of seats (the collapsible clip on ones) will collapse when you stand 90% of the time, so when you sit back down you'll need to adjust the seat back to the normal position. But overall, none of the seats have been in my way when I want to stand.

It does sound non-intuitive at first, but it works fantastic and actually looks really normal when a person is seated in it. @texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
Hey Simon, If a seat on a paddleboard is raised anywhere between 1-4 inches it doesn't raise your center-of-gravity high enough to make any difference. Once your seat is 5-7 inches high, then it MIGHT make a difference if your SUP is less than 30 inches wide or you weight over 200 lbs or your height around 5-foot 10-inches or taller. If you're lighter or shorter, than even a 5-7 inch lift will still be navigable in mild choppy water. I've paddled on the coast, and know what that choppy feeling is like, and I've also SUP fished. My experience is for choppy water (like the coast or a really windy day at the lake) is nothing is a great as a good sit-inside kayak. But in choppy water a 31-33" wide SUP with a somewhat low seat is okay for just paddling, but somewhat difficult for SUP fishing. Hope that helps. Do me a favor and subscribe to my channel - I'm trying to reach 1,000 subscribers!

Thank you i did subscribe youre very informative I kayak on the east coast in brooklyn and allways have to deal with choppy waters strong currents and winds in the bay. So to ge honest still very hesitant about feeling safe on a Sup vs my sot

That's reasonable. I wish you the best as you decide between using your sit-on-top kayak vs an inflatable SUP vs a high-pressure inflatable kayak etc.

Is this doable if I don't have side rings that far back on my SUP? if I use the simpler stadium seat, I can just sit in it on my board and it probably won't slide around on the surface will it ?
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 5 месяцев назад
It doesn’t slide around, the only thing that would make it move is if you sit then stand then sit again and nudge it as you sit.

What width should your board be for a seat? Woukd 28 inch be to narrow? 30" be enough or is 32" yhe way to go?
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 25 дней назад
28 would still work but most SUP’s for river and lake use are 30 or wider.

I'd start with one of these two from my video description, and if your SUP has no d-rings to attach them to, just use 1 tie-down strap around it: --Framed but lower Stadium Seat (Around $50): amzn.to/3t8sYRY --Framed slightly-raised Stadium Seat (Around $50): amzn.to/3nFxBzQ --Tie downs - amzn.to/35zTJGA

Is it a big deal to not strap the seat down? Will it shift around when paddling if not strapped?

no, not at all. I don't always attach it down.

heh - it is a good idea! Looks like a few people have tried it, but not really well-done yet: amzn.to/3UjD9jm - strap on seat amzn.to/3Si7qgN - seat with cooler behind and rod holders amzn.to/3BPZw8R - a really big cooler seat for fishing boats

Bought a paddle board, and realized that I need a seat for my paddle board. My paddle board doesn't have any strap for the seat. Can u recommend a seat for paddle board that doesn't have seat strap?
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 2 года назад
Yeah, for that situation, get the #3 seat I recommend in the video description. Then do one of the two options: (1) get 1 or 2 tie-down straps, and one your sup is fully inflated tie-down the seat through the bottom part of the chair. Then cut the extra part of the strap except for 3-6 inches slack. (2) buy and attach on some d-ring patches by doing an Amazon search for “paddle board d ring patch” and attaching the d-ring patches with PVC stitch “liquid pvc” glue. Super strong.
@ProdigiousReturn
@ProdigiousReturn Год назад
Sadly most of the paddle boards available here in Canada don’t have both sets of d rings available to attach the seat. Some will have only one or none
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
True, but the good news is the D-Rings can be added fairly easily. you can buy different color patch D-Rings like these: amzn.to/3Pddu8L and the glue like this amzn.to/3P7ARAq to add them on yourself.

If you are using a seat, isn't it better to attach your leash to the front of the board? Seems like dangerous entanglement would be an issue running a leash from rear of board past the seat.
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
If you're using a seat I wouldn't recommend using a leash. Instead, be sure to wear a life jacket. The leash is important for stand-up paddle boarding or surfing in the ocean so you don't get separated from your board in a current, but kayaks and leashes generally are not used together.

I don't have much experience with adding an electric motor to a paddleboard, unfortunately.

What if my iSUP doesn’t have Drings?
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 7 месяцев назад
If you don't have D-Rings, you can either buy d-ring patches, (search amazon for SUP D Ring) or use a tie-down strap after the board is fully inflated (this isn't ideal, and will create drag in the water). It's okay to use a seat without attaching it if you're on a lake or somewhere calm.

Yeah you could. You need to be mindful they are wider and can get in the way of a paddle stroke. les important, they look tacky, imho.

How can a ten inch seat be any less stable than me standing up
@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 12 дней назад
Fair question. It’s less stable vs other seats that are lower, which was the comparison I was referring to. But seats with legs are “different” than standing because when you are seated you cannot shift weight from side to side (foot to foot) like when you are standing.

@texaspaddleboard7797
@texaspaddleboard7797 Год назад
Good question. The cooler is pretty high, and most people (especially heavier people) would loose a lot of stability. I’m a pretty short, light, athletic person so its not much of an issue for me, but I would not universally recommend it.

Hah! I know :) But I stand on a SUP 90% of the time - The seats are generally used by my friends, family and people I take on tours who aren’t as comfortable standing. Rather than double my fleet size, having the right optional seat saves me tons of space and money.
