I know that this isn't what one is supposed to put into the comments but I want to say how wonderful the two of you are together. I am so pleased that you'll soon be able to start travelling again as you have said how important it to you. And that's all really. Marcus I will keep thanking you for the insight. If I manage to get a RU-vid channel started it will be because of people like you. I just wish there was something I could do for you, on the pay it forward model. You go about making huge differences for lots of people on your various channels, and I would like to be able to say thank you to the two of you for all the help you have given all of us. You never no the effects your life has on others. It's like the time when a retired research scientist from Nottingham UK was on a walking holiday to base camp on Everest, when he was explaining to his walking group that he had been part of the team that developed Ibuprofen. His conversation had been over heard by the Cafe owners and they explained to the sherpa's who were carrying the tour parties extra luggage, who they were helping. The sherpa then proceeded to tell everyone up and down the trail. And after that their trip became massively slower as to the local tribes people a whose who of A listers were passing through. The research chemist's party were being asked to recieve innumerable gifts because everybody wanted to thank him for having saved their lives, eased their pain, or made a lived one's last days immensely easier. (BTW their are reasons why I have made that connection, I'm just concerned you might think I was being hyperbolic, so unless you specifically want to know, I will draw a veil over my life) But again can I say thank you, and maybe one day I will be able to explain

Hello from the CA Bay Area (formerly from Alaska), love your videos! In my search for being more light weight and convenient, I currently use C stands for studio (C stand base, aluminum junior insert which cuts the weight down), and carbon fiber camera tripods with a baby pin screwed into the top as my light stands. Realizing that a camera tripod can be used as a light stand really changed things for me, they are incredibly light weight and I carry four at a time without feeling like I am carrying anything at all. If I want more height for them, I just add an extension (baby pin aluminum extension, or carbon fiber threaded tripod extension either one).

FEISOL CM-1473 Rapid Monopod with 3 Support Legs, Ifootage Cobra 2 C180 II, and Manfrotto 146B High Aluminum Stand Extension with Avenger A2009 Turtle Base for C-Stand are my current favorites for portability and stability and I have parted with all other stands as a result.

Great video, do you prefer cushioned or non cushioned stands. I know some prefer that soft slow drop over the quick hard slide down. Have a couple really old photogenic powerlight 600s. Work great just old and hard to take everywhere. Like to find a small light weight battery with lots good power.
@MarkusPix
@MarkusPix 3 года назад
I hate pressurized ones, they shouldn't be called "slow drop"- they should be called "push with all your might and eventually they might go down" The impacts are like that but I still love them because of they're light weight.

Hi Markus, love your reviews and enthusiasm. I have bigger indoor stands but they don't get much use. I do buy cheap Chinese stands (kinda disposable if they get wrecked eg salt water) but up to now my favourites are the Manfrotto baby stacking stands. These go quite high (6ft+) pack flat and clip into one another. So 2,3,4 or 5 can be stowed in one block and carried as one unit. They are expensive, in UK I paid circa $190 for 3 some 5 years ago. They still last as I 'baby' them. Main downside is small base so vulnerable in wind, so need to be weighted or ground-pegged. Have you come across these? They also come in bigger sizes for more height and bigger footprint but I went with a set of 3 smallest for travel/location shooting. Related to smallest lightest, I'm researching what stand is best to hold a Sennheiser 416 for field sound recording. Currently I'm thinking about Manfrotto's Carbon Nano stand at 750g as it will adapt to uneven ground, is only 20 inches long packed and the base can unclip to be a hand-held boom pole. Ithink Nissan do something similar but lighter at only 550g and cheaper too but some disadvantagesvs Manfrotto version Ithink? Have you ever seen these or have an opinion on field suitability. Neither are cheap or disposable. Might also work with my Godox AD200s but less suited to modifiers unless ground anchored or having an assistant to stop blowing over. IMO it makes no sense risking $1k+ kit on poor design stands that blow over easily. I'm going to add your suggested Protester LS-CT to my list to investigate.

Anyone know if there’s a recommended base feet for my sturdy manfroto monopod that is sturdy enough for basic panel lights? Trying have an around setup here for event shoots lol. Meaning I like to bring my monopod but most of the time using gimbal setup already so would like a base feet to for my monopod to double as a sturdy light stands. I seen those beefy benfro feets and it looks sturdy but not sure if it is recommended to double your monopod as a light stand

I think C-Stands are overused. Heavy duty light stands and really any light stand are designed for lights, while c-stands are much better for modifiers, flags etc, and not nearly as safe as a light stand for lights.
