During a global pandemic quarantine, I'm so glad to find this video, my favorite story teller listing my beloved home country, Taiwan, among his favorite places on Earth. It's been three years since I left, and I almost forgot how much I miss it, until watching this and Iz's four videos. Thank you, Johnny and Iz. I am still looking forward to the day you do a Borders video on Taiwan, by the way. Go to Kinmen, the ambiguous twilight zone, the ultimate limbo among Republic of China, Taiwan, and People's Republic of China. Go and figure out why I put three names in that sentence.
Your appreciation for life and your curiosity is so inspiring man, seriously. I've been trying to catch up on your videos and I want to travel but I don't know where to start could you give some advice pls?
Wow watching this in 2020 while in lockdown. Sigh. Hope you and your loved ones are staying well and safe. Have you been to Australia? Unfortunately you can’t come now but keep it in mind as it has a diverse range of places and natural wonders Your cinematography is amazing and beautiful.
You should visit Lyon, I live here for the last 9 years, and I still didn’t find a city with the same level of charm Contact me the day you guys come, I know the place like the palm of my hand, and I can show you the best food arround ;)
I hate that people use that. It’s hyperreality. When you actually visit the places you have seen so much on on YT and IG, you will inevitably be underwhelmed
@@JamalW239 I disagree. Photos/videos cannot bring justice to the beauty of nature. So color grading attempts to bring that same sense of wonder and beauty that is felt while at the location. Even if the colors dont match perfect, I think it is impossible to not be overwhelmed when visiting places like these. And regardless if that is what it truly looks like. This is an artform and the artist creates what he/she remembers of the scene and/or adds their artistic touches.
I visited Ireland in 2016 from Canada and I loved Galway! You have to go to the Cliffs of Moher if you ever make it there. Killarney and Killarney National Park were also some favorites.
I think it's very creepy the way he fakes his voice. You can hear his normal voice in a clip from the train, where he doesn't bother to sound like a feminine robot. This narration is just creepy, because it is so obvious his tone and speed is not natural but forced for the naration. Just my opinnion, but I think most people notice if somebody is talking naturally or not...
CerealKiller 65 yes, Slovenia is so fresh, clean and beautifully full of nature. Seemed like the freshest air I breathed along the road that follows a roaring blue river.
Wow, didn't expect to see Leuven in this top destinations. I never considerd it as a 'travel destination' since its so closeby but you changed my view on it. Definetaly going there this weekend!
I love how in documentaries and travel shows, they always display the “sunny”, “bright” scenery and weather and we think of that as pretty or majestic. But from this video we see that rainy weather or misty or dark weather is actually very beautiful too. Just because it doesn’t show on my iPhone camera, it still looks good on my retina.
sometimes i personally think Vox doesnt deserve you, everything you do is just so good and really distances itself from the other stuff at Vox in therms of quality, enjoyability, peacefulness and greatness. Keep going man
It’s Porto in Portuguese as well (not Oporto) 😂 Thanks for the shoutout! Btw, I’m not sure you visited the Vineyards way up the river in the Douro region, but you definitely should 🙌
It was the British that added the O. It's so weird. In America, we say Porto too. And it's pronounced "portu" not "portoh". I went to Portugal every summer in the 80s and 90s to visit my grandparents. (Mangualde and Mealhada) but I've never been to Porto. So sad. It looks so nice and I haven't been to Portugal since 2002.
@@JayRolo Yeah exactly, we generally pronounce it like "portu". Although people from Porto themselves usually pronounce it somewhat like "puortu" because of their characteristic accent (I hope I'm not offending anyone by trying to transcript their accent hehe). What a shame that you didn't get to visit Porto. Mealhada is not that far away from it.
I was so thrilled to see you recognize Taiwan as such an amazing place. My first trip to Taiwan was in 2018 and I loved it so much I decided to move here and have been living here for 8 months now. I feel like Taiwan hardly ever gets recognized as the amazing place it is. So it warmed my heart to see you mention it, and I really think you did it justice in what you said about it.
Thank you for mentioning Hong Kong and I really like the episodes of Borders Hong Kong. Hong Kong is amidst the most intense political turmoil after the handover due to tightening China’s control on HK (extradition bill to China) and followed by the disrespect of human right by HK police. HK does worth more international media coverage and attention😞 Stand with Hong Kong. Fight for freedom.
I went to southern Utah for the first time earlier this year and honestly I’ve never been so blown away. I love Europe and Asia but there’s something about the beauty in my own easily accessible back yard. Stoked it made this list😂
I am studying in KU Leuven and I am so glad to see somebody said that for the first time on social media. I learned Dutch and now studying in Dutch and my main reason is just Leuven :)
Actually we in Portugal call it Porto, it's just weird for us seeing an O precede it. This probably came about because when referring to the city sometimes we say "o Porto" (the port) and some languages just took the THE and merged with the PORTO name. Anyway, I'm just glad you liked the city I was born in. Next time you are in Portugal, go a bit north to Braga, it's smaller but has a lot of history, also even though I'm biased, there's no better place to eat in Portugal.

Before I even hit play, I said “he better have Switzerland 🇨🇭 on there”... was so disappointed once you got the top 5 called out. Then impressed, you saved the (my) best for last! Another pro travel money saving tip: sign up, train for, and run the Jungfrau Marathon! It’s so beautiful and you get free Swiss train tickets travel to and from the area, as well as the day of the marathon! 👍😉
Come to northern Pakistan! You would love it. It's not as popular yet, not that great of infrastructure. But the government is trying to improve tourism. So things are getting better. Anyways, the nature is beautiful, at par with Switzerland, with lush green valleys and deep blue lakes, and friendly locals and warm tea:)
Dude i was so stoked when you mentioned the Jungfrau region in Switzerland. I based my entire trip over there recently with your family's iterinary ( Iz's video ) . I was surprised cuz u mentioned 5 places lol.
You MUST VISIT BALI! It's super amazing! So Unique. You can enjoy the sunrise(or sunset) at the misty calm, fresh air of Ubud green mouintains, enjoying cup of tea or coffee also the magical ricefields you must visit (best visit when sunrise) or go on adventure for waterfall. Or those beautiful sunset (or sunrise) at the beach facing the endless Indian Ocean. Surfing, enjoying seafood and so on. And what makes Bali different from the other places (like Hawaii, maldives, etc.) is the PEOPLE. They have unique culture that you can't find anywhere else in the world. The traditional Bali Hindunese (which get along with nature) along with the modern urban life, they are SO HUMBLE. The food, dance, music, everything just amazing. Bali is one of INDONESIA's more than 17.000 islands. And INDONESIA is home to hundreds of ethnic and culture (food, dance, music, etc.), various nature topology (mountains, forest, sea) YOU MUST EXPLORE (can never fully exploring it all, just too much to explore). Cheers!
Taiwan isn't historically Chinese. The Dutch and the Spanish actually colonized it before the Chinese did in the late 17th century. The indigenous Taiwanese are more related to the Filipinos than the Han Chinese.
Dude, you should visit some eastern european countries like bosnia & herzegowina; Albania; Romania Bulgaria etc. tons of culture there, not many tourists (yet) and i have had some of my most friendly and welcoming encounters ever during my travels... but there are also a lot of negativity and social problems (especially boarders are a big issue there)! Oh and since i am swiss and you like our place, go visit slovenia it is where swiss people go when they like to go abroad and still have some "home" feeling!
As someone who lives near Leuven, who has grown up going there and now studies at the university and who loves the city, it is amazing to hear you, a guy whose videos I love and admire, talk about it in this way. Thank you very much for this. It truly warms my heart.
Johnny: thank you for the vids, BUT can you pleeeease use some different music. “Chill bop” or whatever this is is soooo irritating with the constant electro thunk beat and bizarre I dunno even what to call it - baby fairy like vocal sounds. It’s the weirdest “music” and is everywhere “these days” and shouldn’t be. But yeah, SOOO many people use this same junk as their video background music and not only is it awful, irritating and distracting to begin with but hard to escape because of its pervasiveness. I like light and upbeat yet unobtrusive music but somehow this has the opposite effect / is the opposite of that.
Damn I can't believe Leuven made your top 3 lol! Funny how it's "right outside Brussels" and "a big village" for you, when it's one of the big cities for us (along with Antwerpen, Bruges, etc.) We sometimes forget how small our country is compared to, say, the US
"oh, Iceland's cool" Another great entry, Johnny. What a format. I can't help but lean in listening to you. Great teacher and storyteller, you definitely are.
Hey man I love your videos. Your my favourite RU-vidr . You should really visit Queenstown New Zealand!! I live their at the moment and it is stunning 😍
I was never a map fanatic. But after I started watching your videos, I find myself, sometimes staring at the map. And i realised how wonderfully complex borders of different countries.
Me and my brother Bobby traveled to southern Utah before he died and it’ll forever be one of the greatest experiences of my life. Not only was it beautiful nature, it was the last experience of life I had with my older brother. You started speaking about southern Utah and teared me up, these are happy tears because it took me back to a time in my life where I had an amazing experience with one of the most important people in my life. Helps me realize how much of a blessing Bobby was to have as an older brother. With all that said, life is still very much a blessing! I hope I’m making my brother proud, my love for him is infinite.. Thank you for your work Johnny, your videos are incredible!
I would love if you visit my hometown "San Sebastian" in Spain. I wonder if you would add it to the list or not. Besides, San Sebastian is in the Basque Country region which has an interesting Boarder story between France and Spain. Just saying ehem hahahahahaha
Wait, as a person who grew up in Leuven I was like actually so surprised when i heard you say is. And btw the "castle" you stumbled upon is called Kasteel Van Arenberg, it is indeed beautiful
As a young Swiss person there are lots of things I don't like about my country as it is rather 'provincial' but one thing I always miss when I travel abroad is the public transport. Swiss public transport is perfect and I have yet to find a country that does it better than we do!
