MY FAVORITE RECORDS #22: "THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION SOUNDTRACK"
Is there anything better than watching this movie when you're a teenager? You have Black Flag with Ron. X. Germs. Circle Jerks. Alice Bag. The list goes on. The raw energy from the footage still gets me going today.
I can't wait for the Circle Jerks, Adolescents and Descendants show this year. Punk ain't dead!

Later on in the '80s, The Replacements were my favorite band. I think they ended up being the best band of the '80s.

I saw the movie when it came out, and I've seen it multiple times since. I'd say it's the best punk rock documentary. By the time it came out, I'd already met the Ramones at a record store and seen the Ramones, the Clash, and Blondie. I was listening to the Buzzcocks, the Damned, etc. I was really into the early Black Flag stuff, the Adolescents, etc. I had a huge jambox, and I was playing this stuff on cassette as well as vinyl. I was constantly buying D batteries to feed the jambox so I could blast it outside. I saw X in the early '80s a bunch of times and they were my favorite. I loved Billy Zoom, and yes, that was D.J. Bonebreak on drums. I kept thinking about getting a tattoo of the X logo, but I never did. I saw the Descendents, Black Flag, and the Circle Jerks. Those were the days! 😄

Replying to myself: 'The Clash - Westway to the World' is a good documentary if you've never seen that one.

Wow! That is so amazing. I bet the Ramones were such cool guys. I would have loved to see those bands in their prime. Thanks for sharing your experiences!!

I grew up by the Cuckoos Nest in Costa Mesa so a lot of those bands played at that venue. The Decline was a major influence on me and I was lucky to meet Lee Ving and tell him that. I saw TSOL in the early eighties they are one of my favorite bands. Ron Emory is an incredible guitar player that had an impact on other guitar players like Jeff Hanneman. Anyone taking about the Decline, Suburbia, Germs, Circle Jerks, X, Black Flag, TSOL, Vandals and playing Rikk Agnew Christian Death/OTOP songs on guitar knows their punk. You would have fit right in with me and my friends in OC listening to the Decline and talking music in the early eighties. You may have seen this documentary on the Nest but here it is just in case. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_5U4OaiWwSM.html

That's awesome! The Decline rules, I love the footage in it. I've heard The Weirdos and Vicious Circle were supposed to be in it too, that would've been very interesting. I'm so glad you think Ron rules too, he's a nice guy. Great choice in guitars and amps too. That documentary on the Nest is great too, I saw it when I was younger but I need to watch it again. Rikk is amazing too, his use of octaves is signature. Rock on!

@@DevinRyanVitek That would have been great if Vicious Circle / TSOL would have been in the Decline! My friend got me a Vicious Circle vinyl a few years ago really good early punk. Still can not believe that Todd Barnes was around 14-16 years old playing in these bands, not only is Ron one of my favorite guitar players, Todd is one of my favorite drummers especially on the album "Dance with me" there was nobody like him, a true punk rock prodigy. Rikk was a really original unique guitar player especially with the octaves and the Harmonics. Here is a 1994 CD video with Rozz and Rikk you may have seen this as well, but it is some peak CD. Great to see you keeping the scene alive! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tSQdR_Lupg8.html

@@childofzoso2790 Right? I love all the bands on the soundtrack but having VC would've been cool, especially in place of Catholic Discipline who I only thought was okay. From what I've heard Todd is exactly what you said, just a wizard on drums that naturally took to them. He had lots of cool tattoos before others had them, funny habits and was so intuitive on the kit. I love that 1994 CD video, I wish Rozz was still alive and performing. I like his Daucus Karota material a lot. Again, like China White, I wish we could've gotten more out of that side project too (DC). You rock!

@@DevinRyanVitek 100% agree there were some amazing bands during that time and some bad ones also. VC or China White would have been great choices! Rozz never got the credit he deserved he was cutting edge and paved the way for people like MM in my opinion. Keep Rocking!
