*Supercars came over* Larry: Ooh these Minis made my day, I gotta take some pics.. Ignoring Lambos and GTRs like nbd 😂

It's because most people can't relate to supercars, like there's no point gushing over something you'll never even sit in let alone own, and even if you were lucky enough to own/drive one, most people would be too scared to drive them the way they're supposed to, so they just become something to flex in, which at the end of the day isn't that interesting.

Thank you Larry for excellent video covering not only the event but also the parking lot. As you said, sometimes you see the real build and passion there. I like how you explained a bit of background about Indonesian car culture as well. If I may add, yes you can't import used cars and before 1999 you aren't even allowed to import a new car due to government rules that dictated all new cars must be assembled in Indonesia. So car selection before 1999 was very limited. Another burden is that since 2015 we can't import used car parts legally anymore. So finding parts is hard as well, not to mention relatively high shipping cost (compared to Malaysia for example) and fluctuating currency. But it's not all bad, our DMV didn't really had a strict rules so people can modify car without had to worry. Labour is quite cheap as well and we have many talented artist that can create or modify any parts (in fact building a whole car as well). 7:46 Just want to share about Starlet, yes they do have Turbo version of P70 Starlet (known as Starlet kotak or boxy Starlet in Indonesia) but it's for Japanese market only and the car you see is a convert using Turbo parts. The whole converting is a big deal here, because we often get lower spec models and to stand out people look for parts from other markets or their luxury/sporting trim. This is even more expensive than let's say custom bodywork. There are stories of converted cars costing more than what you would pay for the real one abroad. I think this is one of the unique aspect of Indonesian car culture that I seldom see anywhere. 8:20 You know, you create quite a stir here when you say you like Corolla Liftback. They aren't really popular back in the day and even now. It's unique because it is the first time that Corolla was offerred in Indonesia beside sedan body. Unfortunately buyers find the styling odd, after that many were in bad condition and some of the body parts were expensive so people avoid building one as the price isn't worth it. But now there are people that start to notice this car and it's quite rare ad well. With you saying how good this car is, I think it's add credibility. Glad that I see some of my friend there, like 4:29, the owner did drive it daily. He was inspired by long distance rally like London to Sydney. 9:18 is a close friend of mine, he is regarded as an expert on Corolla E70 here (known locally as Corolla DX), his brother also drives one too (as nice as the blue one) and he drives it daily. What interests me is that these guys are still young (mid 20s and early 30s) just to show you how dynamic the scene here. Offroad is really big scene in Indonesia, unfortunately many offroad guys prefer to just drive straight to forest rather than attending exhibition, I think you should cover one next time. They spent huge amount of money on offroading here. 12:20 A bit note on Nissan Pathfinder, they are sold locally as Terrano and it was assembled here from 1995 to 2006. There is only one engine variant which is 4 cylinder 2.4 litre petrol with carburator (yes, all the way to 2006). The one in your video is facelifted version that came in 2003, which is notable for crystal headlight and Altezza style rear light. 16:20 This car is actually Holden HQ Premier, the grille was replaced by Chevy style grille for export market (they are called Constantia grille in Indonesia). Holden are popular in the 70s as a long distance taxi. Unfortunately many didn't make it (it was known to be used in car crushing stunt in one of the big autojumble event here). This particular car is owned by Mr. Dewa of Pluto Garage, a well known Holden builder here, he swapped the engine with Chevy Small Block (of course) despite being quite expensive and rare, American and Australian car scene here is quite vibrant. 19:21 Just want to add the Mini Jaksel, they are not exactly formal club per se, it's a bunch of friends that like to hang out at Bunna (a popular location for car enthusiast in South Jakarta) that happens to own a Mini. For authoritative Mini club in Indonesia is Jakarta Mini Club, the largest and one of the oldest in Indonesia (I should know, I'm part with them). There is also another Mini club called Indonesia Coopret Registry (the Coopret is a bit of a joke, it's sounds like k*pret which is a slang that doesn't really have equivalent in English, probably sounds like s**t). In the end Larry, amazing work and I would love to see you visit Indonesia again. You probably didn't notice but your voice really being regarded here. Like your comment on Liftback or Brio that you really like (I don't know if you aware, that Brio was often mocked because the owner spends almost 30 grand on one, but after you review it, suddenly people praised it). I would be more than happy to guide you around Indonesian car culture, trust me, there are more gems here than people imagine. Wish you the best Larry, cheers.

That Toyota next to the blue Beetle (0:55) is Kijang, which was Indonesia's best-selling car for years. Toyota Kijang to Indonesians is just like Ford midsize cars (Cortina-Sierra-Mondeo) to Europeans because not only being popular but also you can tell someone's social status by looking at its trim level. For example, Kijang LX means you really want a Kijang and want to get rid of your miserable Suzuki Carry but not having that much money, while Kijang Krista means you basically can afford (and being chauffeured in) a Mercedes but don't wanna be seen in one too often, so you decided to enter the 'stealth mode' in a Kijang instead

It stopped in 2005/06 I think and we never really got a replacement.

Holden Kingswood, many variants 4 door like that a 2 door, Monaro, Ute / use guys call pickup variant eg like an El Camino, many engine variants usually 6cyl to various V8 variants in all body models as well, was Australian made until they closed the Holden Factory in 2016, sad times. Also Sprinter variants of the Liftback were a JDM imported Corolla, most Asian countries including Australia and New Zealand got these new as a Corolla, in a hatchback similar to a Honda EG, not in looks but size. 2 or 4 door, then Lift-back was like the 2 you showed the twin cam and earlier model, I think they were fuel injected in the late 80s, Toyota in Japan and Asia was very ahead of it’s time in both twin cam and Fi, they also had the Corona range which was a bigger version model range with Sedan Liftback and Wagon Variants also usually 2.0L very popular and great cars to they replace aced it with the Camry which imo was stupid move, Corona was massively popular here, but back to the Corolla, I also maybe wrong on that 88 you pointed out, but Corollas usual had many body variants in these markets from Hatch, 2/4door, Liftback, Sedan and Wagon, 1.4l 1.6 and even 1.8L before 2.0l took over late 90s early 2000s obviously Mt and AT also we got the turbo Starlet here and you didn’t see one but another cool car was the Mitsubishi Turbo Cordia and the Mitsubishi a mirage Turbo, which was good at blowing up usually, but Cordias were sick as it was the Japanese answer to the Renault Fuego another cool car in it’s day. Great look at car culture they def do it right and would love you to check out the off road scene as well, def a 60series btw, unsure if they have used an 80s grill and lights or if it’s a late Gen end of line 60s before they went to the 80s, I own a 1HD-T 91 80series, 60s are very rare here now and very sought after both here and in Aussie, it’s the new black for off road Toyota collectors and ridiculous prices if you can find one. Cheers.

I don’t really understand why Brio couldn’t pass US regulations when Mitsubishi Mirage could. They’re practically the same car, maybe Brio is even better

While the wealthy elite are laughing their ass off, they keep buying mansions, flying their private jets, yachts, and exotic cars. We peasants need to drive EV and eat bugs 😂

You do know that it's all part of there big plan called Agenda2030 right? Well they can try and get gas powered vehicles off the road but it ain't gone happen. I'll switch over to diesel engines if they stop making gasoline. I'll just make bio-fuel from used cooking oil 😅

They are also pushing electric car here in Indonesia despite electricity isn't actually available nationwide. With power blackout is a common thing outsode Jakarta and it's surrounding cities.

There are a lot of European cars because in Indonesia, they're actually the cheap entry-level enthusiast cars. The popular JDM cars like what you have in the US either didn't enter Indonesia entirely, or insanely expensive.
