2023 is almost over and that means another year of living out of my backpack is coming to an end.

I pack a little heavier than you and I'm fine with that. 40L backpack If I'm staying at a hotel, my fire tv stick. Free movies rather than paying. Snack pouch. Self explanatory Small enamel mug. I enjoy being able to toast moments on my travel. And save on buying disposable coffee cups. Sea to Summit clothes line Game bag with mini deck of Uno, Mini playing cards, dice, Catan Dice Game Pillow case. Nice to have my own with me.

My hero Clip, my ace soap buddy, my travel neck pillow because i can use it in multiples ways. My foldable bottle, u also can use it as a hot bottle or cooling bottle.

For years I have brought the Sea to Summit x-plate for collecting the smaller stuff when not at home; wristwatch, my really small wallet, maybe earstuds, small tube hand cream, small hairbrush, usually also charger, but then it's full😀. If I'm not using my phone it should lay on top or close. The plate is on the night stand if my glasses also can be there, otherwise the plate has to be on a table or so. The StoS plate is lightweight & collapsible, for camping. The idea is to have a designated place for small important stuff. I also need some headphones (or 2nd best; earphones) because I usually go by train and don't want to listen to everybody all the time. Also they reduce the engine noise on planes.

Great summary! I think a female perspective would be great as there’re so many men compact packing out there. I love my sea to summit small toiletries bag as it has many great organizational compartments. I also always pack slippers, it’s a small comfort with big impact. Thanks!

I will try my best. 😉 I was actually more worried that it will be too boring for you to watch it - I feel many bag reviews are always kind of repetitive, like talking about the material and here is the passport slot (where I would never put it) and this is the organizer compartment… 😂 But my plan is to really put them to the test! 💪

I’m KICKING myself for not thinking of the suction cup hook for the Matador pouch! I can’t tell you how often I’ve had to jerry rig something, but this is a great solution. I haven’t seen your channel before tonight, but that alone earned you a follow! BTW, another option instead of taping the sling buckle in sketchy areas would be to use a Velcro strip. It works as well, won’t leave residue, and is reusable.

My favourite travel item is my water bottle holder. Crossbody detachable strap. It has a few zippered compartments to store phone, purse, makeup etc. toiletries. It folds up to put in my backpack. It is small but mighty and I can put everything I need in it for a day's adventure. It is one of my best buys.

if you ever decide to replace your flashlight give the Rovyvon Aurora A8 a try. no display but it has red/UV/primary beam/lantern light with various settings. it is also USBC and has a reversible magnetic clip as well as a magnetic tail. literally one of the most useful things I have ever purchased in my entire life

I love my Sea-to-Summit Ultra-Sil Document Pouch, but now I don’t see it on the website, so maybe I was the only customer for it. No matter how hard I try not to collect papers, I always end up with some. I used to carry a manila envelope but the pouch is lighter, sturdier, and has two compartments that both hold 8"x11" sheets. I store it in the laptop compartment of my Tom Bihn Technonaut 30 bag, where it is secure but easy to access. (I recommend the Tom Bihn bag, too, because it is light and flexible to accommodate items of various sizes. Two months ago I shoved a Tuareg rug into it, in addition to all my travel gear and other tourist purchases--no problem to fit it in. Somehow the bag seems to hold more than 30L. And it is comfortable to carry. And, after Egyptair badly damaged the bag-stupid me for checking it when I didn’t need to-Tom Bihn repaired it for $30.)

Would love to get your perspective on other travel backpacks. How and why you prefer the gear you use plus how you use when you get to a place you stay, on the plane, bus etc is helpful. Also appreciate the female perspective as we have some different needs or considerations.

Probably THE most used and useful item we always travel with is the DOAC Ace 3 Travel Adaptor. No more hunting for parts to connect to the right socket (have personally used in EU, UK, Aus/NZ and North American outlets), folds up compact, and provides 3 North American (on my version) outlets to plug in multiple items (typically usb adaptors). Best thing ever.

I just found your channel. One of the best items I found to carry on is a Thermarest inflatable sit pad. Stores like a water bottle. Add a little air and sit on it for long flights and it's like riding on a cloud.

I would have been disappointed if the mini flashlight didn’t make the list! 😂 I really enjoy your honest and authentic reviews, so I’m looking forward to seeing more. My go to travel accessory I always take with me is a carabiner- handy for so many things! Also I have the Osprey Arcane duffel and agree it could use a discrete looking bottle holder on the side, and maybe if it were waterproof too🤔

I really like the tech pouch - wishing my zipper case for glasses that I am using for tech had side flaps & small elastic holders. Stuff tends to tumble around. It is hard to list favorites. A lot of mine, I got from your channel 😂 But I do like my little Kånken waist pouch - bit flashy with the logo - but I like the little handle on top to carry it when it is not around my waist, & it works for documents / comfort items for the plane. I also like the technique of putting an empty PC bag in the computer slot on the Arcane duffel. We used them for extra space for souvenirs and gifts we brought home last week & put them under the seat on the plane. Worked very well! I then also had the empty computer pocket in the duffel to fill and space inside from gifts we brought with us. So - it felt very «spacious» coming home & was still all carry on! (& the belt pouch I put into the PC bag for the trip home). Each trip is different - so I find I flex my system for each trip. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Have a happy December & hoping all wellness checks are «well» & good. 🥰

Great video! And the Side by Side pouch is definitely one of my favorite travel accessories. I use it as a little crossbody bag as I go through the airport and then on the plane. It holds my phone, wallet, a tiny hand cream, chapstick, some meds, and some eyeglass wipes. It is so useful, I just love it!!

I really paid close attention to your packing tips for a couple years now. It's helped me minimize intelligently. I love the Matador soap pouch! I use a solid soap/shampoo combo bar that works perfect. I've also switched to the toothpaste tablets and love them. I just treated myself to the women's Osprey bag as an upgrade from my 40l Matein backpack. I really wanted a hip belt... I'll let you know how I like it when I use it 😊

I love my Osprey Talon 22 Daypack. It would be only big enough for a long weekend, but has hip pockets, side pockets, a good always accessible pocket for valuables, that's not obvious though. And a laptop sleeve at the back. It's not the lightest, but really comfortable even with heavier loads. You can even use it for biking (has a helmet fastener) - so the bag for almost anything 😇😂

You and I are the worrld's biggest fans of the Matador Flat Pak Soap Cases (mini dry bag with "drying technology" !!! I have been traveling with them for three years and love them more than almost any other travel accessory I use... I don't understand why they aren't at the top of everyone list??!! They are nothing short of miraculous. And I really like your vids, by the way.😉

Hello Maggi, after couple of travel during this year I switched from Osprey Arcane Duffel to Osprey Daylite 45l Duffel. I never make full bag (so it is still ok like carry on),... there is space for example for coat, when I am waiting in the airport for next flight, and on the bag is also bottle holder.

Thanks for some great ideas! Those small scissors and flashlight look super useful, always something you end up needing when travelling! We also really love our Katadyn BeFree water bottle - it is a soft plastic, so it can fold up and we fill it when we travel, so we have water with us. It can do some basic filtering which is nice to have. Also a little foldup shopping tote bag with a zip - can use for multiple things and very handy, as can seal it up for safety as well!

Niteize ultralight phone stand. Gotta have recovery slides for slippers or casual beach. Peak Design small packing cubes. All fits in the Samantha Brown Essential Carry-All personal bag under the seat. Clamshell style with lots of organization and creative space. If im on a longer travel needing backpack style...Osprey Fairview 40L comes out...but that lends to a carry-on.

Love your suggestions… my poor wallet… 😂 How happy are you with the InCharge cables? I backed their Kickstarter two years ago and got four of them, and they quickly fell apart and/or stopped working. Now we only have one left and it looks like it‘s on it‘s last leg. I was about to include them in my upcoming video on overrated travel gear… 😂 But I am wondering if they updated the quality since the first release…

@MaggiFuchs the charger has stood the test of time. The challenge is having to take a case off on larger devices (S23Ultra 1TB). Otherwise, it is clutch in a pinch [not t be confused with Clutch charging bank]. I can't use it in a car scenario, so I turn to the retractable C-to-C data/charging cable. Word to the wise: keep track of the cap; it's so easy to lose. If I had to do it all over again, I would stick with the retractable only. The InCharge is a "just in case" item now. Soooo tiny, I can't give it up.

I been following you for a long time and enjoy your videos and your honesty. I’ve been searching for a lightweight backpack similar to the Osprey arcane duffel but with a water bottle holder, sternum straps and waist belt. So far, I haven’t found one as light as what you have now. So I’m curious to see what backpacks you’ll be reviewing, especially through a female’s perspective. I too plan to travel minimalist and look forward to your next videos.

I am honestly not sure. If it has a large lens, it would probably be to small. But Bellroy makes a larger sling and also one for camera gear - maybe this would be the better option then…

That slim organizer is unavailable, but I got a Travelon one from Eddie Bauer for half price. I use it all the time and it had a smaller one with it that I use to protect my cards.

Interesting you had no issues with the little scissors. I've had mixed experiences. Last time I travelled my little scissors were conviscated at the New Delhi airport. Even though they are TSA approved their response was plainly that they weren't TSA.

No, so far I had no problem with them (in Europe, South America and USA). But I guess we are just up to the whim of the airport security. A security agent once gave me a very hard time for cables and insisted I have to take out every single on and run it through with my electronics. And one time in the USA, I felt like a criminal for having a small tripod in my bag… 😅 So you can just never be sure…

Oh wow… that‘s expensive! They also charge a premium here in Europe, but for that price, I would probably stick to transporting my soap in a plastic bag… 😅

Liked your favourites. I always have a small flashlight attached to my bag. It does come in handy on the plane. Which Bellroy lite size did you get, the 4 Ltr or 7? I just ordered both last week as I could not find them in store here in Australia.

At first I thought her sling had to be the Venture sling because it looks navy, and I don't think the Lite sling comes in navy. But it has the magnetic "fidlock" closure, which the Venture sling doesn't (it has metal clips at each end of the strap, rather than a clasp in the middle of the strap). I have the Venture sling in 6L. Her Lite sling looks to be about the same volume, so my guess is that she has the 7L version (FWIW).

I checked - I have the bigger one. The Lite Mini cam out after I purchased mine, but I would have gone with the „larger“ one anyways. :)

It really is the Lite. But the color is not a „pure“ black, I would say. When I hold it next to something black, you can really see a blue-ish cast, and depending on the light, it becomes more visible. And yes, it is the bigger one! Good guess! 🤗

Given your thoughts on things, I am surprised you use a Mag charger. They are highly inefficient, the energy lost is 25-30% versus wired. I prefer a headlamp because I need my hands occasionally. Danke, wie dein kanal.

You are absolutely right that they are inefficient compared to cables. And I would probably not bring them on a short trip. But it‘s one of those little luxuries I love on longer trips - not having to deal with cables and especially charging three things at once and not having to check regularly if the device is done charging so I can plug in the next one. So that makes it useful for me. :)

I have no personal recommendation, because I never really fly Ryanair (they don‘t come to any airport near me). But a friend of mine uses a bag from Cabinmax, I think she said it was „designed“ to match Ryanairs specifications. Hope that helps! :) Fica bem! 🤗

Would the folding scissors work for cutting hair? I have fringe and have been looking for travel friendly hair cutting scissors.

I never tried to cut hair with the folding ones. But I used my scissors (the unfolding ones) to cut my hair when it was longer, I usually cut the ends when they got all dry and split. For that, they were sharp enough imho. And since the foldable ones are from the same brand and seem as sharp as mine, I guess it could work… obviously they are no proper hair scissors, but for me, they did the trick… 😅

Have you found a need to bring an extra set of clothes in your personal item just in case you get separated from your carry-on? I like having the leg room by just carrying a sling as a personal item. But, sometimes I feel like I should bring a larger backpack to carry a set of clothes in case I'm forced to check my carry-on.

No, not really. Luckily, I have never been separated from my carry-on luggage. However, I bring a packable tote bag with me when I travel by plane and before I board, I pack a few things I want to have with me on my seat inside. It’s three months after your question, and I want to mention that my last four flights, we had to gate check our carryon luggage. So I always put clean socks, underwear, and a tshirt into separate ziplock bags, squeeze out the air, and they are always in the bottom of the small backpack I use for my personal item just in case.

@@beanie7547 Got it! 😉 The last time I went to Brazil, I took a full one with me and it was almost empty by the time I left, so it should have lasted around three months? I usually applied it on my face before I left the house and it was okay for being out and about, but when I went to the beach or hiking and the water or sweat washed it away I obviously had to reapply some protection - but then I did not always have it with me, because in that situation I don‘t care when I‘m a shiny mess and just applied normal sunscreen… 😉 But I guess it depends on how often you apply it...

Costco often has powder sunscreen in the same format at the beginning of summer. I usually carry a compact of Jane Iredale pressed powder. It’s the best sunscreen for my face. It’s expensive, but lasts a long time.

Absolutely hated the Osprey travel bag. Felt cheap and the clips were difficult to use. No offense. Just my opinion.

Your opinion is just as welcome as mine. I always love hearing what works for others, because we all travel different. I am not sure however which clips on the Osprey bag you are referring too. I don’t think that mine has any clips - or do you mean the metal G-hooks to clip on the shoulder strap?

Many of the products sorry to say are totally overpriced. A very simple Sling bag at less than 3 EUR costs for over 69 EUR Sales prize is crazy. First i thought somebody with a critical view, but here I see only promotion

I wish it was promotion, then I would earn a lot more money with it. 😂 Since I usually one own “one of it’s kind”, I don’t care too much about the price of things, as long as they work for me long-term. If you want a more critical view about my personal item bag, I already did a video about which bags I tried and rejected before I found this one. And if you have a great recommendation for a 3€ sling bag, I always love to hear and try it out. My only requirements are that it fits my iPad Mini, is suitable for lefthanded people and sturdy enough to be used daily for a long time - in normal life & while traveling. Looking forward to your recommendations! 🤗
