I can't thank you enough for recommending this lab! I just sent in my 5th roll this morning and now feel confident enough to comment on their service. I don't want to go on too long, but I'd sold all my film gear about 10 years ago so had to start from scratch, bought a TLR and started shooting. Wanted to support local businesses but wasn't completely satisfied with those nearby. Nice Labs pricing is excellent. Their customer service goes above expectations. Josh responds to emails very quickly. The turnaround time exceeds expectations for mail in service and the scans are very well done with minimal spot and dust removal needed. I can't say enough about their service. My only small gripe, and it has nothing to do with Nice Film Club is that they're in NYC and NYC charges tax for services. I grew up there but moved away over 30 years ago and have lived in 6 different states since then and none of them charged sales tax on services!

Is there extra charge to get the media returned? Here in Australia there are pretty limited options, but I’m a bit loathe to trust standard post across the pacific, and couriering makes the cost a non starter. I was excited to see “favourite way to scan” with a thumbnail of medium format, and kinda annoyed that it was “outsource! TaDa!” - but I appreciate the vid anyway, and it got a like from me.

Great video! Not sure if it’s a YT app glitch but I haven’t been seeing the like button under the video. The first one is the share button. Probably a glitch but sucks I can’t like this right now.

Totally hear you, I'll always have a special place in my heart for developing. Totally! Nice is especially for busy seasons like that, where you need to turn things around quickly and don't have as much time to dev & scan yourself. Thanks for watching, Brandon!

Considering joining. What is the avg turnaround time for development and scanning?
@StevenSchultz
@StevenSchultz 7 месяцев назад
Speaking from personal experience, it typically takes 4 days to get scans back, once your shipment arrives at their lab. They also make a note of current turnaround times on their website and when you submit an order!

Do they develop and scan E-6?
@StevenSchultz
@StevenSchultz 7 месяцев назад
Yes they do! There's an additional $5 charge per roll of E-6, and they develop it with a Refrema dip & dunk processor!

I do archival, for film that is 2:1 resolving scans thanks to Sonys pixel shifting and the slide duplicator method thats very cheep now (compared to sending off 20 odd rolls a year and or drum scanning) (but nothing beats wetmount drum scans for sctached negatives) But the reason why I am hammering this long comment out is your a small channel, and this video hurts my head, heres why. You lack breaking down the basics of what scanning is and what resovlving of film is, film scans are not "4k"as thats 8mp a video standard and a poor way to present scans, as common "standard resolution" film scanning in pixel terms is barly 8k or around 36mp, under the conditons of each channel has full R/G/B data you dont even get 1:1 with Ektar 100 35mm film untill 90mp on a bayer sensor, thanks to that my scans are 400MB-2.5GB depending on how much channel data is being stacked as pixel shifting allows bayer sensors to be usable for this now with far better dynamic range then feeder scanners or mirrorbox desktop desktop units. The Noritsu HS-1800 Has these 2 options that you would realistically use (with a boring sensor from the 2000s) 4824x3533 120mm 4492x6774 35mm 4984x7623 35mm (off an A7RIII 3x3 pixel shift scan at 1:1) What this company does is has a feeder scanner, 16-bit TIFF is as basic as DPX is for cine film scans, JPEG is just a sin its a distro format but that goes without saying, this company actually calibrates there kit properly hence why its sharp, I stoped outsourcing to companys using these scanners haphazardly when I got sheared negatives back as its geared though the machine. Overall though 200USD/y is kinda wasteful, compared to chemical costs and buying DataLifePlus/M-Discs to archive scans it only costs 150USD of kit and you got a darkroom in a field pack today and you own it forever, I am not saying outsoucing is stupid I am just stating long term it makes less and less economical sence you become detached from the methods of the medium, but I write the docs for vhs-decode so I might just have a bias for do it at home archival though 😂

start photography in 99 buy my first digital in 2004 scan film is not worth it , the only time i could see my self using film again , with a medium format , and developing and print it on a traditional dark room in fb paper . or cross processing them soot slide and process them in c41 in lab ,
