My comfort read is anything by Jane Austen. I also believe we can gain great comfort from the stories of other’s uncertainties because we realize that there can be life after the horrific turmoil. For the in between time can be truly beautiful; that space before the next upheaval.

Anne of Green Gables is magic, and I recommend Anne with an E. When I got over the fact that it doesn't follow the books as I would like it was amazing. Rereading Harry Potter right now works for me, and maybe I will pop into North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. That one always brings out the best in me. Happy reading!

Just came to this video for a few more recommendations! Thanks so much for recommending Georgette Heyer, I didn't know her or, never paid attention to her books and now I'm in love, they have been keeping me sane during these times!! Frederica is so far my favourite, trying to not read all of her books in a row so I can savour them!

I'm so glad you have discovered Georgette Heyer! I remember when I first discovered her and was just so overwhelmed with how much I loved her books and that she had written so many- so many treats to discover! My absolute favourite is Devil's Cub. Also Sylvester, Recency Buck and The Corinthian all top my list of favourites. I might read her this weekend!

My comfort reads are by PG Wodehouse, Diana Wynne Jones, Peg Bracken and (tadaaa!) Eva Ibbotson. I love Ibbot’s kindness and sweetness. This year I read the House in the Cerulean Sea, and told every, It’s like Eva Ibbotson for grownups!( because my fav Ibbotsons are Not just a Witvh and Witch Witch.)

Thank you for this beautiful video I added the Georgette Heyer books to my tbr list 😍 as someone who grew up absorbing the Anne of Green Gables books I was so thrilled to find it among your comfort reads. They are certainly essential in my list of comfort reads along with The Night Circus, The Secret Garden, The Scorpio Races and quite a few others 😍

Thank you Lucy, and warm congratulations on finishing another book. Always pleased to hear what's on your mind, and at the moment ... well, it's good to properly informed but it's also desirable to be thoroughly distracted. An impressive set of co-morbidities means I'm going nowhere for a long time. Comfort reading? Conan Doyle and John Buchan; PG Wodehouse and Evelyn Waugh. Stay safe and well everybody, and stay at home.

I just noticed that my biggest comfort reads are pretty different from each other: Sherlock Holmes, Good Omens, The Enchanted April & The Hobbit. I guess it depends on whether I need something to cheer me up when I feel down or something to soothe my anxiety. But apart from The Enchanted April, I've known all of them for a long time and they feel like being with friends.

Very different, but equally fantastic! I'm reading The Enchanted April at the moment and can see why you find it comforting. In fact, it's going to make an appearance in one of my videos next week, so I'm looking forward to talking more about it!

I think fantasy is my comfort genre. The world building is just the perfect escape for me without being too heavy in the way that historical fiction or thrillers can be. I’m also re-reading Pride and Prejudice in the community’s buddy read and it’s one of my favorites. I can’t wait to finish and rewatch the movie which is definitely a comfort movie.

I love the humour in Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances. I tend to reread all of them (in alphabetical order) every year. And currently enjoying listening to Richard Armitage reading Venetia on Audible. Love Anne of Green Gables and it and Anne of the Island are probably my favourites in the series.

I’m reading North and South for the first time and loving it. Can’t wait for your video. I read murder mysteries in times of stress because everything comes right in the end. In addition to Agatha Christie the Miss Silver books by Patricia Wentworth make me feel safe. The other option is historical fiction. I lost my house in Hurricane Katrina but was so thankful that I wasn’t Mary Queen of Scots. Reading about her made me count my blessings. 👑⚜️📚❤️

Lucy, I hope you stay healthy throughout this unusual time. Each year, I have different goals for writing. Last year, a few of my short stories and poems were published on Teen Ink. This year, I won a Gold Key award for my short story, Ambition and Rejection. It was a regional award. I endeavor to win a national award next year. The last book I read was The Paper and Hearts Society. I think it is a brilliant work from a debut author. I love how well crafted the characters are. Tabby and Olivia are my favorite characters. I am excited to read Read With Pride when it is published in May. These recommendations were very helpful. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery is one of my favorite books of all time. I truly believe that it is a timeless classic. Anne of Green Gables will always be my favorite book in the Anne series. It is an absolute comfort read. I was completely enraptured by this coming of age story of an orphan girl, Anne Shirley and her vivacious experiences on Prince Edward Island. Anne of Green Gables was originally meant to be a stand alone novel. Lucy Maud Montgomery’s publishers actually commissioned her to write the sequels. My favorite of the sequels is probably Anne of the Island. I did not enjoy Anne of Avonlea or Anne of Windy Poplars as much. I am dying to read Anne’s House of Dreams. I reinvigorate my feelings of happiness and contentment through these comfort reads. I want to read some more of Beatrix Potter’s novels. I am thrilled at the thought of reading The Morning Gift by Eva Ibbotson. I want to devour some young adult historical fiction. As for Georgette Heyer’s writing, I think Arabella is the best place to start. I read A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Neilson two years ago and I enjoyed it immensely. I recently read Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte and really enjoyed reading an account of the life of a governess. I am sure I will really enjoy Emily Bronte’s poetry. I love you

My comfort reads are: The secret garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Fannie Flagg books, Mary Jo Putney novels set in Regency era (Never less than a lady is my favourite). I laugh out loud reading Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons and short stories by Stephen Leacock. I also enjoy crime stories from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie for the reassuring endings and for the depiction of the respective eras in them.

Best wishes and all of my love ti you too. Keep always safe. Now lets start talking about books. Except for the one I'm reading because I'm working on its translation, "East Lynne", I'm reading "The Doll Factory" by Elizabeth Mcneal and "The woman in White" by Wilkie Collins. Another L. M. Montgomery's book I think you ought to read is "The Story girl" and because it is a period in which we all have to remain at home what about reading a book which have been born by a period of obliged rest of the author? This book is "A Garland for girls" by another L. M. of the literary world: Louisa May Alcott. For now that's it! Stay safe! See you soon! xxx

lucythereader I loved The Story Girl when I read it last summer. It is a beautiful story about a group of cousins telling each other stories to pass their time. This novel completely warmed my heart because it is such a simple tale of childhood memories. I love how the characters develop a relationship with each other. This book was Lucy Maud Montgomery’s favorite book to write because she drew upon memories of her teenage years and the stories told in her family. I feel like The Story Girl is very underrated. When talking about Lucy Maud Montgomery’s writing, everyone just seems to talk about Anne of Green Gables and the sequels. While I love the Anne books, The Story Girl is just another one of my obsessions. It is a comfort read and the writing is descriptive. I plan on rereading it very soon.
