I have used this underwater video light to capture every single shot I have taken over the last 5 years, both on my personal films, and my corporate work as an underwater cinematographer. This video is dedicated to these powerhouse bits of kit!
Link to the updated light (note the new Version 2 light has replaced the Version 1):

The four main factors for me when considering underwater video lights are:
1. The colour rendition index, or CRI. Anything above 90 is considered high CRI, and anything below 90 is low CRI (it is not a linear scale!). This is a measurement of the quality of light - I have entire videos on this on my channel if you're interested.
2. The lumen count. The light has to be sufficiently bright to bring life to your scene.
3. Battery life. The light should be able to last a good few dives before needing a charge.
4. Price. Underwater photography gear is expensive, so anything that can deliver on specs for an affordable price is a huge plus (says the guy filming on a RED Raptor...)
I have used the OrcaTorch D950V Version 1 for years, and I'm super excited to continue shooting my films and projects with the newly improved Version 2!

Thank you, really glad you enjoyed! The more tutorial style content (vs. general filmmaking, business and cinematography discussions) is part of a much bigger concept that I'm working on! All coming soon :)

Going to look into these lights, thanks Tom. Do you also use filters on it? Seems essential no?

They have filter threads in there, but I don’t actually use them. This is an area I want to experiment with more - but for now, I don’t

Just a quick question before I buy a pair.... how do they compare to Keldan? Thanks Tom

Hey Peter. Honestly I haven’t used a pair of keldan lights before, but I do have plenty of friends who use them. With that said, the Keldans are between 3-6x more expensive than the orcas, and while I’m sure they are slightly better, From what I can tell the price difference isn’t worth the pay off. They both have similar size batteries, outputs (depending on keldan model), and CRI count, but they have vastly different price tags. The orcas for 1/6th the price of the keldans are epic epic lights. They don’t have some of the crazier features like remote triggers, but if you’re looking at getting a pair of remote trigger keldans you’re looking at another 2-3k or so for the trigger modules in addition to a pair of much more expensive lights. Orcas are by no means budget lights, but in my opinion the D950s rival the big guys for a fraction of the cost. There’s a link in the description that I believe gives a small discount if you do decide to go the orcas - it’s hooked up under my name :) Fire any more questions you’ve got too - happy to help!

@@TomPark Thanks Tom, I'll get them. Really enjoying your new series and looking forward to your new doco

@@peterlamshed3688 thank you mate glad to hear! I’m hoping to finish the doco off this month after 14+ months working on it! Very keen. And epic enjoy the orcas - I love them and for their price tag they’re (in my opinion) unbeatable. Obviously I am affiliated with the brand - but that doesn’t impact my opinion, and i wouldn’t still be using these lights nearly 6ish years later if I thought any different (or however long it’s been - many many years!) If you do go ahead though that link in the description I believe should give you a little discount (don’t quote me on that), but it will at least let the brand know who sent you their way 🙌🏻
