@@maluminse6013truth, but this is something the FBI is famous for not doing. The FBI randomly showed up at my work once, this was 20 years ago, and so I hear an announcement over the intercom, "Edward, the FBI is here to see you!" They didn't call ahead. What they were doing was a background check on a friend of mine from high school who was working in the White House.
@@maluminse6013 I think it's important to not alert people of their arrival so that people can't destroy evidence or come up with a story. They probably had to verify that Marques wasn't involved somehow though I doubt they thought he was.
Email would prove that they’re actually FBI, if someone calls you on your phone and says they’re with law enforcement, that would be a lot harder to prove that it’s a real call and not a scam
What I appreciate about how Marques creates is that he didn't over dramatize this. No fancy editing, re-enactments, or added drama. Just a sit down chat about what happened. I much prefer this approach to storytelling.
yeah...I really dislike those youtube contents with silly cut-ins, over the top music and memes when just telling a story or retelling an event. I enjoyed Marques approach
Although I understand where you’re coming from, there’s nothing wrong with making a documentary, with music and entertaining edits. There’s a time and a place for that.
@@ayotundeayoko5861 the silly cuts and over the top music help young people with bad attention spans. Carl Sagan, bill nye, and ndt were great bcz they made something important palatable for young people. I really love seeing those quick cuts and TikTok-type edits of science or historical vids. It’s like the new age version of the tv personalities that helped me learn as a kid
I believe the FBI did Not have a warrant for him or to search the premises. Respect to all the Government Agencies involved, Bob, and Marcques for handling the situation professionally.
For what it's worth, the FBI would not likely want to be pushy in that situation. They were looking for cooperation to help them investigate a scam that had nothing to do with Marques. Good on Bob to follow protocol, but he likely didn't encounter much pressure from the agents.
Omg finally!! I remember getting an email from the FBI about this too (thankfully without the 3 guys in suits at my door 😅). Got to keep my devices though, so...maybe its time for a long-term review 😂
well makes sense doesn't it? this would have been a cross-state boundary crime, and from what I know of the US law enforcement doesn't that almost default to being in the FBI remit.
Consequences only to those who live in developed nations that has enough resources and manpower to prosecute these people. If this happened in poor nations, yeah, good luck finding them. Especially the US has no jurisdiction outside of it's borders, it can only hand out evidences to that nation where the crime had happened.
If the FEDs wanted urgent access, Bob wouldnt see it coming. Clearly they knew who Marques is and that he would be helping rather than impeding their investigation
people really thinking it work just like in movies, but in reality the FBI and any other three letter agencies will not do the open the door and bargain in, that isn't even legal, the only way they can do that is with judge order to arrest someone, in MKHD case he isn't criminal nor part of the scam, he just happened to have evidence that important for the case.
Bob the front desk man is the true MVP of this story. He gave MKBHD a heads up about the FBI in the lobby in case Marques needed to escape out a back window.
When I worked security at a data center we had the same rules.... No police thru the gate/into the facility unless there was an active emergency or it was approved by upper management (who always picked up their phones, btw). Our SOP literally said tell them to sit and wait.
That something that happens everywhere in the world. You don't talk to interfere with the investigation because they have to get the bad guy, not make him run away
Two weeks from now: "Hey guys, Marques here. For some reason every black person I know has stopped speaking to me and is avoiding me. Also whenever I walk up to a group of people chating now they all go silent and stare at me"

also, Marques took down the entire Escobar's smuggling, money laundering, and fraud operation. use it as a bragging right, and people will mistake this clown Escobar with Pablo Escobar now we know that RabbitR1 and Humane AI were not the only fraud operations he managed to took down
Dude, this right here is _why_ honest reviews like yours need to exist. Every now and then you encounter something that the authorities would _very much_ like to talk with you about as a subject expert.
Go Bob! Fancy badges doesn't intimidate him. I'm imagining after asking why they're there Bob's next question was, "Do you have a warrant?" And when they answered no, Bob then said, "Wait right there" before nonchalantly knocking up at your door lol.
@@marcuskissinger3842 Why was it dumb of him to let them in when he's 100% sure he has not done anything and they want to ask him about things regarding a case where he could be off assistance?
@@GrebbChannelthey could be investigating a crime he is not even aware of, such as something related to taxes, or discover something worth investigating while they’re talking to you. also, they could have the wrong person or incorrect facts and think you did something illegal. even if they’re not investigating him, he could be dragged in as a witness based on something he says. there’s always risk in voluntarily talking to law enforcement, and there are likely to be unforeseen consequences. there is very little downside to keeping your mouth shut; if they really need you for trial, they’ll subpoena you.
LOL that is how all evidence forms look to be fair. They have a very informal look to them. They are done this way on purpose as they are suppose to be something that you lawyers judges etc can all understand with a simple glance. They lack legalese type stuff. There are more formal ones they put in their reports along with a copy of the one you get. I use to be authorized to sell photo id printers to the dmv and universities. And i would get forms just like this every 3 months when they came to check my stock of blank cards ink and all that type stuff. They would take samples and run off samples. These are the same type of printers that things like fbi irs secret service etc credentials are printed with along with photo ids for the public. Part of the reason i stopped selling them was do to having them come by randomly around every 3 months with out any sort of notice etc. I understand the why of it but i also had a computer repair etc business and it was just to intrusive. I still have my voided clearance badge though :p
I laughed way too hard when you initially mentioned the "Escobar Phone" because I remember watching those videos laughing at how bad the con was and thinking, "Whoever did this is definitely getting arrested"
This is a great example of your “chill style”. No over the top crazy energy - it was just like you we got a chance to sit down with you in a booth over a cup of coffee and you shared a (great) story. Shout out to Bob!
“Btw that’s not the only encounter that we’ve had with the FBI…. But that’s another story for another day” Marques about to make us wait another 4 years 😩
@@royscott5884 yeah this dude literally strip teased a nothing event for four years just so he could make a boring non-event video with FBI clickbait in the title
Ironically i think it’s the opposite - actually kinda boring. When MKBHD sorta teased the story a few years ago it was all like “oooh did Marquez do something shady, is he being kinda swatted by a malicious prosecution from an embarrassed phone company? Whats the story!!” And of course, a few years later, it’s just the FBI coming to see Marquez about an obvious fraud that he had no part in other than making a video about, and taking some tech as evidence, probably just to corroborate the video which itself would be a footnote in the FBI’s investigation. The end. Nothing exciting, no conspiracy or anything, just a bog standard fraud investigation.
FBI came to his office unexpectedly. They wanted to take the Escobar phones as evidence because they were investigating a scam based on those phones. They did not allow MKBHD to talk about this publicly. You see, it can even be done in a 15 second RU-vid short instead of a 9 minute long video.
loved this whole debacle. I was enthralled with the Escobar phone series you and others released when it happened so happy to see the end. please continue to release them.

Many, many decades in the future Death: "I'm here for Marques Brownlee" Bob: "Wait here in the lobby" Conclusion, Marques is imortal as long as he stayes in the studio
the fact that Bob was ready to throw down for Hi guys Mkbhd here! and the Entire FBI respected his hands enough not to do a home invasion on them like they did to JCole is AMAZING!
