Ayana:; I just finished watching your video. I can't make up my mind which I enjoyed the most. If it was the information you were giving or your beautiful face, smile and manner. This 73 year old grandmother is enjoying you. I'm just getting ready to try some ferns because my home doesn't lend well to house plants that need sunshine. So I have ordered some shade loving ferns to try. Thank you for your nice video. I will be back and hope to see you again! You're a beautiful young lady!
Girl, let me tell you. I have NEVER had much luck with Ferns (Boston Fern, Button Fern) but then I re- watched your video. And I said, ok maybe it was the type of Fern so I will try one last time. Today I bought a Birds Nest Fern. Here’s to keeping hope alive 🤞🏽
@@seaside9670 it’s still alive. At first most of the leaves died and I almost gave up. But I keep it on a pebble tray and make sure there’s always some water. New growth started. So it’s alive, not my favorite plant. Slow growing. But alive 🤷🏽♀️
Wow!!! 50 ferns!!! That is quite the collection. I bet that looks beautiful!!!. I love the look of the boston fern but I don't know where I would put it if I brought it inside.
@@RootingMindfully where I live I can keep them under my carport during winter, it doesn't get that cold here in south Georgia where I live. I am expanding my house collection by watching your vidoes, my girls already say mama you got a lot of flowers. I just want to enjoy them while I am still here. ❤
@@irispresley3182 Hmmm that is interesting. Ohhh I hope I am not influencing you too much lol I am sure your girls will want to go plant shopping with you one day and then they will have a huge collection too :):):)
@@RootingMindfully , not at all, I have always had house plant, just finding out new one's I never seen before. My youngest loves flowers but my oldest doesn't show interest.
Beautiful fern collection! Can’t wait to see you grow it in 2022 😍 I love the Maiden Hair fern, but have killed several ... until I finally put one in a terrarium with some other plants. Now I just water the terrarium once a week and it is thriving. Thanks for another great video!
very informative. i didnt realize there were so many different varieties of ferns. I have so little luck with ferns and I think it may be under watering and not enough humidity. thank you for the pebble tray tip.
Good luck with those Maidenhair ferns! In my experience your best bet is a forest-like soil mix (spaghnum moss, + bark, coarse sand and rich soil) and a pot with a water reservoir for humidity. Also, a pebble-tray if you live in a dry area.
Thank you for another wonderful video and lovely ferns. I’m starting to fall in love with ferns also, but I had difficulty caring for them until I understood their care and needs. 💚
I highly recommend a rabbits foot fern, as their not finicky and one of the easiest ferns, in my opinion, to keep alive. I have 5 ferns myself and love their delicate leaves. Thank you for your informative video!! Your plants look beautiful!!😊
I rescued a fern from Walmart. It was the only one left not literally crispy! I have no idea how to care for ferns. Now I've got a place to start, thank you!
Great info and beautiful plants! I just got into ferns - I have a crocodile and a hurricane and I’m loving them 💚 they both have larger fronds so I’m hopeful I can keep them alive & happy
Pretty ferns!! Thanks for sharing, still not getting any. Had a Big ol' Boston I took in that promptly died leaving bags of brown fronds behind...omg the mess! Im traumatized 😭🤣
I looooooveeee Ferns too 😃 Not very experienced fern mama yet but making baby steps fern by fern 🙂🙃🙂 Birds Nest was my first one and helped me overcome the "fern anxiety". Got myself a couple of Andiantums last week, so let's see how it goes.....
Staghorn are my number one plant. Google this. Stags are most like animals than any other plant. They live in a colony and each Staghorn has its own individual job. First plant to be documented functioning as a colony. I have nine in my colony. Also a fern collector.
Enjoyed your video. Now the asparagus fern IS correctly named.I use them every summer to fill in with my flowers.Makez a beautiful display.A Foxtail is soft, bushy and a very distinctive form of each tail...
I was always afraid of trying to handle a fern, but you make it seem relatively easy. I might reconsider trying one, except for your last tip about the critters getting in. As usual, it's also good seeing your "Co-host, Saje."
I have two asparagus “ferns”, a rabbit’s foot, and what I think is a Lemon Button or Japanese Holly fern. I really want a staghorn or a mounted staghorn!
@@RootingMindfully the roots on mine aren’t too long and creepy yet! And if they get to that point hopefully there will be enough foliage to cover most of them! ☺️
I am watching this because I’m bringing in some ferns that are growing outside in my yard since it’s getting cold. I watched another one yesterday that said not to use terra-cotta pots because it works away the moisture and they need moisture held in the soil.
These are all very lovely. Once I move, I'd like to invest in some. My current home isn't conducive for them. My only experience with ferns are the Boston ferns which were the only ones my mother wanted when I was a child. Of course I took over caring for them (lol) and noticed they needed water at least twice a week.
@@RootingMindfully at the moment, I would invest in the Licorice fern because of my hectic schedule. It doesn't require much water at all which to me is unusual based on what I know of the other ferns, but it would suit my schedule just fine.
I love your videos, but even though I see that you are wearing a mic, I have to turn my volume all the way up to hear you... Is there a way to turn up your mic?
Thanks so much I have a lot of ferns and I'm learning I have them in terracotta pots they say is not good because they get dry fast but for me it's ok I think for you too like 3 of mine die but the came again.I like your video not to much people talk about ferns.
Having terracotta pots will cause the plant to dry out so quickly. Have plastic pots, particularly with a water well in the bottom will be easier to look after.
Hello :) your ferns are too beautiful especially your bird's nest fern. I have a few ferns, I'm found that maidenhair ferns are the most difficult for me as they dry out sooo quickly.
The only way I can keep ferns alive indoors is in a wicking pot with a consistent reservoir of water. Prior to trying this, I killed every fern that came through my door.
I liked your video on ferns you seem to know a lot about them you explain how to care for them very well I love Maidenhair ones a lot can’t keep them alive ugh but I keep trying keep sending videos thanks
They really are some of my favorite plants. Yes. The maidenhair is tricky. You just have to have high humidity and water her more often. But she is a lot of work lol
Maidenhairs once they have an established root system will survive even if the foliage dies off just cut them back and wait. I have had great success with maidenhairs without adding extra humidity to the air and I live in South Africa
do you have any experience with crocodile ferns? i fell in love and got one from Planterina a month ago. lost a couple of small, old leaves and have a few brown spots...have moved it to a brighter (near a grow light) spot and am really watching the watering and i think we’ve leveled out. as a broader leaved fern, as you say, i’m hoping it is an easier one. love the texture...
I had two before but they came with critters. It is actually on my wishlist. I made a video about that. I am going to try it one more time and then after that I am done lol. My mom actually just ordered one from planterina and it was gorgeous. Sometimes the older smaller leaves do brown. That is normal. My champion birds nest did that too. It should be fine now. Let me know how it does. :):):)
I just started getting into Ferns (I have 4 😄). I got the Crispy Wave Fern today aa a matter of fact. Have you thought about mounting one of your Staghorn Ferns? I'm wanting to get one so I can mount it.
Congratulations on your fern baby :):):) ohhh Carmen, you are giving away my plans for next year lol Yes I do want to mount them. I think they will look really good. :):):)
Now THIS is a plant that I cannot keep........:) What is the longest you have had one? I will revisit video in detail. However this is one that dies on me all the time. Starts good then starts losing leaves withering and finally done! Slow death. I will come back and watch this video!
Really? I love the birds nest ferns. They do the best for me. I feel like they are more hardy. I think I have had it for over a year. I like them so much I have been buying different varieties of birds nest ferns. I did repurchase a maidenhair fern, but they are not as easy. So far so good though
Hello u are correct, I have 2 maiden hair and they are diva's.True on the water.I had to cut their hair to agitate new grow. Thanks on the humidity. Also on the staghorn I was given one and after I obtained her.I decided to clean her leaves. This white dust or something appeared.I looked under the under lay u spoke of not removing and it's there as well.Called forist she stated mineral build up.I was'snt happy about her findings per.say.I asked if they could develop mealy bugs. All in all I too love the staghorn since I saw ir.How do u keep your humidity constant. Is it with more then 1 humidifier? Please share.Thank you as well.
Yes the maidenhair ferns are definitely thirsty plants lol I constantly have to check it to make sure I don't let it dry out too much. Which is why I put it in my bedroom so I can see it everyday when I wake up. I think my humidity is high because I have a lot of plants to be honest. I don't run my humidifier. I actually gave it to my mom. But keeping up on my watering, having a lot of plants and having them grouped together is what keeps it high.
Just got a stag horn fern last week. I don’t want to mount it but not sure how to keep it in a pot. I read that they don’t absorb moisture through the soil.
My do just fine in the pots. The staghorn can absorb moisture through their shields. It is an environmental adaptation. But you still need to make sure the roots receive moisture.
Is the aging on your terra-cotta pots completely natural? They look beautiful! I never used to like the color of terra-cotta pots, but once I discovered that they get this beautiful white on them as they age, I started loving them more and more. But the terra-cotta I have do not seem to be aging like that… Any advice? I have not had them long, not even a full year yet… How long does it take for that white stuff to build up on a pot?
It is natural. It is just mineral deposits building up on the pot. It develops depending on what kind of water you use, the fertilizer and if you water your plants thoroughly. I'm not sure how long it took for mine. Maybe a couple weeks to a couple months.
Amazing ferns... they are my absolute favourite plants. Just to let you know the foxtail ferns and the one you showed before it they are all varieties of asparagus ferns. Are all your ferns in terracotta?
My king fern shot out a stem almost over night, really! Now they are about 2 feet long .They look like the mother plant on the ends.i don't know know whether to cut them off or leave them alone. Help
I went plant shopping today and I bought a Philodendron Birken and a Polka Dot plant. I got another one, but can't remember the name they said it is. Can you tell me what type of care they need. Thank you.
Asparaguses are not ferns! They are called "ferns" because they look like ferns (not that much, imho), but they are not ferns. Ferns have absolutely different type of growth and propagate with spores, and asparagus flowers and gives seeds. Maybe in a care they are alike with ferns..., but ferns differ in care too. Showing asparagus in a video about ferns is like showing desert rose (adenium) in a video about roses. And personally for me - it's like showing a watermelon peperomia in a video about watermelon plants😜😂 I really don't like when poor asparagus is said to be a fern... Guess, it should be very upset with this situation in houseplant community🤔
Foxtail and Ming are types of asparagus ferns--there are many varieties, but they aren't really ferns at all. Real ferns belong to the plant class Polypodiopsida, and reproduce by spores. Asparagus "ferns" are plants in the class Asparagaceae and produce seeds. Unlike real ferns that never flower, asparagus ferns produce small white or pinkish flowers in spring and after flowering, produce little green or red berries.
HI DARLING LADY, MAYBE CHANGE YOUR THIRSTY FERNS OUT OF TERRACOTTA POTS AS THOSE KIND OF POTS SUCK THE WATER OUT OF THE SOIL. LOTS OF LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO YOU, ANNETTE QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA.
