In this video I showcase my own personal collection of Final Fantasy VIII merchandise. I have been collecting since a child when Final Fantasy VIII was first released in 1999 and have continued collecting long in to my adult years.
Final Fantasy VIII was the first Final Fantasy game that I ever played and is my most treasured Final Fantasy for that reason. I can safely say it is my most favourite game of all time for the wealth of joy it gave me as a child and the lessons that I learnt from it. Having recently replayed it on PS4 and Platinumed it, I can safely say that I still love it as much now as I did back then.
Final Fantasy VIII is the game that inspired me to keep on with my gaming journey and helped to shape me as a person. It is still engrained into my everyday life - I have a Griever keychain on my car keys and a 'Balamb Garden' alarm clock to wake up to in the morning...
My collection has been acquired over many years, but started way back in 1999 when Final Fantasy VIII was first released. The majority of my collection was purchased online from places like eBay and other online auction sites but also on trips to Japan in more recent years.

It still breaks my heart that there were so many figures that we didn't get (like Ultimecia, Kiros, Ward, Cid, Biggs, Wedge, etc..) and modern Square-Enix just couldn't care to deliver now. They don't mind delivering on 100 new versions of Cloud and Sephiroth every year, though. I'd at least like a new Edea if anything else since the original is rare, and finding one without frayed capes or pieces from her hat-thing that didn't fall out and get lost is even more rare.

I agree, I always wanted a large Kotobukiya figure of Irvine, Zell, Kiros, Ward, and Edea. It's a real shame that they were never made. I can imagine that the Edea figurines are rare to find undamaged now. It would have been amazing to have a proper figure of her.

11:02 if you give someone a magical lamp with the Devil trapped inside, you TELL THEM HERE'S A MAGICAL LAMP AND IT HAS THE DEVIL INSIDE!....that was probably the only thing I disliked about FF8, me and my little Brother fell victim to the Diablos battle. I'm late to your video, Me and my little Brother (God rest his soul) loved Final Fantasy 8. I think it is still one of my favorites tied with FF4 because I loved that story too. I like FF8 so much that I bought a brand new Sony Pocketstation (that miraculously worked on my PS3 since it's also a memory card) but the flow of time and living caused me to not keep up to see if my chocobo found a ribbon or Headmaster Cid card. Your collection is awesome.

I very much agree with the Diablos surprise... it was very much unexpected, especially at such an early stage in the game. It is very much a beginners trap boss fight. Very satisfying to beat him after that though! I'm so glad to hear that FFVIII was one of yours and your little brothers favourite Final Fantasy's. I'm sorry to hear that he is no longer with you... but you can look back on the fond memories you have together and hopefully FFVIII still brings you lots of joy and happy memories. I always wanted a Pocketstation but never managed to get one, I'm so glad to hear you did! You'll have to let me know if you ever find out if your Chocobo managed to find anything! @@phoenixo-pinion if you're available to purchase from eBay, I seen some original Sony Pocketstations for sale. (Beware of imitations or non-Sony versions) I don't know if your version of the PSone Final Fantasy VIII instruction booklet has instructions for the Pocketstation, that's how I discovered the Pocketstation and how it's needed for super rare items. However in the PS4/PS5 remaster I think the ribbon is obtainable in game. See ya later

Wow you just unlocked my memory CYBERNET, there is nothing like that no more, 80s and 90s had it so right with things like that, as soon as the millennium hit everything just gradually went down hill, not everything but most things, we do have great looking games and technology today but my goodness those times were somehow way more magical. I remember having the same experience as you even though FFVII was my first experience of the series FFVIII is absolutely amazing and the remaster of it today is just incredible, very impressive collection I love that cold cast statue of squall and Rinoa at the dance and the signed original soundtrack from Nobou Uematsu im very jealous of that, truly awesome, a lot of really cool collectibles, all those GF summons blew my mind I would love to have these in my collection. those cards are amazing everything is just amazing, congratulations on that incredible collection you have I could spend hours just looking at all of these, I would love to see a FINAL FANTASY VIII Remake but as FFVII is gonna take what feels like 30 years 😂 I don’t think it will happen, the game definitely deserves more love, if anything I think we will get a remake of FF IX but on a much smaller scale then FFVII remake and most likely turn based combat like the OG, but even if we don’t get these remakes FINAL FANTASY VIII is a must have, I’d highly recommend to anyone if you wanna get into the series’s then VII, VIII, IX, X can’t go wrong, I remember that creepy PlayStation girl advert also 🤣 Thanks so much for sharing this awesome collection ❤

Really awesome collection, the Triple Triad cards and figures are probably my favourites out of all that. Big fan of FF8 too, although the only FF8 merch I really have are Squall's necklaces, his ring and a zippo lighter. I usually wear the necklace every day, lmao.

Final fantasy 8 is my fave. But final fantasy 7 was my first :) friend of mine gave me borrow of ff7 and from that point I was hooked. For Xmas I got my own copy of ff7 collector's edition and ff8.

It’s pretty amazing how your experience was similar to mine. My first console was the Gameboy Color and Pokemon, but my first home console was PS1 with FF8. I remember a friend telling me that Final Fantasy was Pokemon for big kids (I was like 11 and obviously too old and cool for the kids stuff with Pokemon) and got hooked on 8. Great collection.

Final Fantasy 8 has been my favorite ever since it came out. I was familiar with the series’s pattern of a brand new world and characters so I eagerly anticipated the game coming out since every new game was always bigger and more beautiful than the last in surprising new ways. Going from the SNES entries to FF7 made me that much more excited thinking “where could they possibly go from here?” And seeing all of the beautiful artwork and screenshots and playing the fantastic demo up leading up to the release of 8 all had me SO excited. The world and music are still my all time favorite and I connected with the characters on a level I hadn’t previously in any media before, as much as I adored FF6 and 7…. 8 took me on an unforgettable journey from start to its tremendous finale (still the best ending to a videogame ever, it’s like a beautiful silent film in and of itself). Your collection is simply wonderful and brings back many fond memories of the excitement I felt in 1998 and 1999. Thank you so much for sharing!

Matt, I know I'm late to this, but I've been playing off and on over 24 years and before Internet hype, there was rumors that there is a Headmaster Cid card but can only be found by using the Sony Pocketstation, is there a truth to that? I still have my old Sony Pocketstation and doubles as my memory card and it worked on my PS3, I might resurrect Chocobo and let him keep looking (he's like an old tamagotchi that finds things for your FF8 play through. Anyways, I just recently finished a FF8 run on my PS5. Glad I can still get Lionheart early on "disc one"

What an awesome collection. I got into the Final Fantasy franchise a few months ago. I wasn’t even born when Final Fantasy 8 came out haha. My first ever Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy 10. I just completed Final Fantasy 8 for the first time and loved it. I have over 30 Final Fantasy Coca Cola Figures now.

FF8 was the first JRPG which I was exposed to when gaming over at my friend's place. The world, characters and music was what attracted me and I have fond memories playing through it. It would not be exagerrate to say that majority of my childhood memories revolved around it. The only collection I have if FF8 would be the Greiver ring, sleeping lion necklace and the PSone game along with all of the sound tracks (including the vinyl, revival BD). Beautiful collection! Just FYI: The longbox OST from SM Records Ltd. (and also the Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec from Miya Records) is a bootleg, so getting it signed by Uematsu is actually kind of badass :D

Wow! I really admire your collection and love for FFVIII as well! You have so many different booklets and CDs and merchandise to see. Kids in school always wondered what book I was reading after finishing classwork and it would be the little strategy guides that came with the game. This whole video seems like a My Final Heaven Final Fantasy to me after playing FFVIII do so many years ❤ You look soo much like Rinoa to me as well! I am very happy to see that someone else loves the game and collects things like this as well. I remember going crazy as a kid seeing those kids playing it in the Charlie's Angels movie knowing exactly where they were fighting the Grats in the Training Center 😂 Rinoa and Squall seem to be such a Beautiful Couple though! I think that's why I loved that game so much. Everything about that game is Beautiful and pretty even the sad Game Over theme with Squalls Broken Gunblade and Rinoa's Feather on the ground in the dark is beautiful in a sense. Nothing beats how incredible the SeeD Candidates all dance Waltz to The Moon together like that except for when you finally make it to Ragnarok together and hear Eyes on Me together.

Thank you for your amazing comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! FFVIII means such a lot to me and I'm glad we both had similar experiences growing up with it. It truly was a magical time with advancements in gaming. I also remember watching Charlie's Angels as a kid and seeing the two kids in their bedroom fighting Grats in the Balamb Garden Training Centre, it was awesome to see my favourite game in a movie! I agree, Squall and Rinoa's relationship is beautiful and what makes the game's story so beautiful. The dance scene to Waltz to the Moon is one of my favourite's, but I also love Eyes on Me. I always remember how shocked I was to hear an actual person (Faye Wong) singing in a game, it was still so new at the time, but was so amazing!

That is very awesome that you recognized that as well in the movie too my mind was absolutely blown when I seen it lol I am still very much in Awe and inspired to see the sharing of your collection and really appreciate your time in replying to my comment as well! It’s really funny because out of my collection I have been missing my Rinoa figurine and I just found one at a local Toy Shop here in my area and couldn’t be more happy to find her again. They also had Omega Weapon there as well but it was pretty high up still at $150. I still can’t help myself from tearing up when hearing Faye Wong sing Eyes on Me in the Ragnarok as well. She’s the only voice that’s in the game that really resonates in your heart if you have a tender spot for romance and love. I just beat the game again on my switch version last week and completely shook with happiness at the ending again. It’s really sad though because playing Kingdom Hearts when Squall uses the alias Leon he never really gets to talk about Rinoa but when You look at his face you can tell he’s missing her and in deep thought about her as well. Are you a fan of any of the Final Fantasy TCG Products that have been coming out since like 2016 I wonder? I still want to order a Gunblade Replica of the base version as well as his Lionheart blade soon. Those would be incredible! Thank You sooo much again for being inspiring awesome and sharing this! ❤

Awesome collection! FF8 is my favourite game of all time. I remember my brother and I saving our pocket money for weeks so that my mum could go out and get it while we were at school back in ‘99! Means more than just a game, it really defined my childhood in many ways (without trying to sound too much like a saddo). In my opinion Nobuo Uematsu’s best work was on this game too, which is incredible to relive at Distant Worlds!

Ff8 was my first FF entry too, I got a burnt copy from a kid in high school just the first disc and I was instantly hooked. Like you me and my little sister had our minds blown playing this game and I still go back to it every now and then. Especially the music and just the cozy feeling of hanging out in the world at fisherman's horizon or in balamb near the ocean 😅. I'm jealous of your collection thanks for sharing.

You have an excellent collection. It's a shame that with the original 1999 Bandai line of figures they never made Kiros, Ward, Fujin, Raijin, Cid, and Ultimecia. It's also a shame that modern Square-Enix just won't give us a new Edea and Ultimecia figure for anything. It's one of their greatest FF games, yet they largely treat it like it's a throw-away.

I agree! It is definitely not treated as well as others, and not given enough credit for all that it accomplished back in 1999. I always wondered why the Bandai boxsets never had a separate box for Selphie, Irvine, Laguna, Kiros & Ward. I would have also loved a Raijin and Fujin figure also. Modern Square Enix just seem not to care about Final Fantasy VIII which is a travesty in my opinion. :(

Super jealous tbh haha I remember being fresh off completing FFVII when VIII came out and I was begging my mum to get it for me 😂 When she finally caved I locked myself in my room and just got lost in the adventure for weeks. 6, 7, 8 and 9 will never be topped imo. Adore them all 😊

I feel the same - they can't be topped! FFVIII was my first Final Fantasy and then went on to VII from there, then IX and X. We used to have a spare bedroom at home that we turned into a game room and I remember fondly playing these games with my brothers and just getting lost in all the adventures. Such good times. Beautiful collection, thank you for sharing! FFVIII wasn't always my favourite, I didn't give it the time it deserved when I was younger, but playing it again nearly 20 years later I can finally appreciate what I've been missing out on and it's quickly become a favourite! I've also been collecting a lot from the FF franchise over the years but thank god I'm not a completionist.. The amount you have for a single title nevermind a franchise scares me haha

@@phoenixo-pinion I absolutely love how passionate you are about FFVIII, it's great to see first hand how much it means to you but don't get me wrong, I think it's amazing you have so much for one title, I just wish I did the same! Other than the PS4 game you added recently, is there anything else you've wanted to add to your collection? Final Fantasy IX would be my personal favourite.. I got so attached to the characters and loved how different and unique each one was. The story blew me away and the soundtrack was just incredible. I still find myself randomly humming my favourite tracks all these years later haha. I have a decent collection for the Final Fantasy franchise in general for example games and limited/collector editions, figures, statues, soundtracks/vinyl, books and trading cards! I'd maybe be tempted to put together a video sometime 😊

I love Final Fantasy IX too, in fact it’s my second favourite after VIII. I agree, it has an amazing soundtrack and story. I haven’t added anything recently to my FFVIII collection apart from the physical edition on PS4 and one of the Japanese strategies I got on a recent trip a few years back. I will have another search on eBay soon to see what else I can find. It would be awesome to see some of your collection. Let me know if you ever get around to making a video or posting some pics. 😊

just playing the ps4 ff8 now, about just over 3hrs into it and probably like 70+hrs to go lol i been playing cards alot, i used to love playing cards on ps1 version ages ago. i remember there was a shop where you could buy ff figures and my friend brought ff8 bahamut, it was so cool and i remember really wanting ff8 ultima and omega weapon figures but never saw them anywhere, it's like they were so rare to find.

@@phoenixo-pinion most likely my triple triad cards. To have a physical item from that world just feels amazing! If I’m talking outside 8 it’s probably my Theatrythm arcade machine. Do you collect for other entries in the franchise?

I agree, the Triple Triad cards are an amazing thing to have from the game. I loved Theatrythym, I played that so much on my 3DS! An arcade machine sounds like an awesome thing to own of it. I do collect bits and pieces from other Final Fantasy’s but not as much as I have VIII. I just like having gaming memorabilia from games I really like in general now. Quite a variety!

This collection has been being collected since the games release in 1999. You could probably try eBay to see if anyone is selling some of these items.
