People in Livingstone are very friendly. It also very lovely to bump into Balozi in town. Cruise the Zambezi.

Livingstone is NOT a BaLozi town. It is a Tonga town. As, you know, Mosi Oa Tunya is Sotho name. The first Zambians forced to speak Sotho by Sebetwane, of the Sotho, were the Tonga he met and defeated in BoTswana in 1836. These Tonga took him to the falls, and explained that the falls were called "Shungu Namutitima"; Sebetwane, who loved to make all those he conquered speak siSotho, named the falls "Musi oa Tunya". He then forced those Tonga to be his guides. Those Tonga guides then shrewdly led him away from Tonga land, which stretches from Hwange, Zimbabwe past Lusaka to Kabwe in Zambia; the Tonga led Sebetwane into the Zambezi Plains in what is Western Province today. There they found a group of people, called baLuyi, who had arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo, 250 years before, under a queen called Mbuya wa Mwambwa. The Luyi later on became the Lozi, and their land is about 400km from Livingstone. In the space in between, you find ethnic groups who are more Tonga than they are Lozi, such as the Subiya and the Totela. Here, look at a language map for yourself, the orange part you see is all Tonga land, and it stretches into Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. This is because the Tonga were first Bantu people in that part of Africa. When they reached river Zambezi, the settled along both sides of its banks from the border with Mozambique, all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. When Zwangendaba was running away from Shaka, he met, fought defeated and assimilated Tonga people in Mozambique. The after his 13 year long meandering journey, he crossed the Zambezi river into what is now Malawi, again he met riverine Tonga people, and the canoes used in that crossing came from those Tonga people. The name of the river itself comes from the Tonga expression, "Kasamabezi", meaning "where those who know swim". The Portuguese did not like the multisyllabic name, and so they truncated it to "Sambesi" on their maps, which became Zambesi, and then Zambezi

@@pinkCulture. The country doesn't market anything. You'll never hear about Zambia anywhere. Instead they choose to fight over Victoria Falls with Zimbabwe, a loosing fight because VicFalls Zimbabwe is already established.

@@pinkCulture. Zambia actually has 400 Waterfalls, of which, 5 are categorized as big. Which are the Victoria Falls, Lumangwe Falls, Kundalila Falls, Kalambo Falls, and Ngoye Falls. Then 20 medium sized falls including the spectacular Chishimba Falls and other too numerous to mention here. Then 375 of them categorized as small. Ironically, 90% or 360 of them are just shared between 2 provinces, that is, Northern and Luapula provinces. My former house mate worked at the National Geology Department so I got to know about this.

I think Zambians just cause confusion. Victoria Falls is the name of a city and national park and rainforest in Zimbabwe named after the waterfall that Dr. David Livingstone viewed for his first time and decided to name after the queen of England at the time, queen Victoria. Zambians should have stuck with the name Mosi oa Tunya as that's the name of the national park there. Since the mid 2000s when they jumped onto the Victoria Falls bandwagon to capitalise on Zimbabwe's economic chaps they have been saying Victoria Falls is in Zambia and yet Livingstone is in Zambia. Confusion for new travellers.

What are you talking about, you own nothing apart from what we Zambians have decided to share with you! firstly Mosi O Tunya Falls is 2km long & only 500m is in Zimbabwe. Secondly the 98% of the river's that feed the Falls are Zambian including the Zambezi river which we Zambians named after our country, stick in your lane you own nothing Zimbabwe! We control all the waters falling on that 500meters we've given you, don't make us take it away!

@@chandavlog5221 lol, no need to be emotional. Al I'm saying is Zimbabweans we're clever enough to capitalise on the falls naming a city, rainforest, national park, and airport after Victoria Falls. Also by building a city right at the falls allowing people to walk there unlike livingstone which is over 11km away. What did Zambians decide to share? Please enlighten us. So only 500 metres of the falls is in Zimbabwe (according to. you) but Victoria Falls receives 2.5 million toursists while livingstone receives. Make it make sense. I'll tell you why. Toursists come for the views and and 75% of the falls is viewed in Victoria Falls. That's why they charge $50. Zambia charges $25. Tourists don't care who owns the falls. They just want to experience it.

@@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 But the Lozi name Mosi -oa-tunya meaning "the smoke that thunder" still stands with us, the source of the Zambezi river is in Zambia's Mwinilunga from a place called ikelengi, you can keep the Victoria name to yourself no hard feelings, you have the Best Views and we have curtains of the falls Simple!!

@@frejahmule619 you would need to tell that to your government because Zambians are fighting for the name Victoria Falls. And yet everything with that name historically is associated with Zimbabwe.

@@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 get a life.. you know very well you only have the view..all the activities happen on the Zambian side. The devil's pool is in the Zambian side. Apart from the view what do you have? It's like your neighbor has built a very nice house but the best view is seen on your pouch....can you then claim and say your neighbors house is also yours because if people want to view it nicely they must come in your yard?

Thanks for this video. In 2001, I stayed at Fawlty Towers at a time when Livingstone did not have many lodges. As for the heat, you need to come here & then you’ll know how hot a place can be. The good thing about our place here is that the weather can often change into four seasons in a day

Most of what Livingstone has was built in the mid 2000s by South African hospitality groups and tour companies. They began a massive campaign to market the place. Problem is during the dry season, zambian side reduces to just a trickle and toursists would then have to pay again to view the falls from Zimbabwe.
