My first 40ft Container - Hotshot Trucking 

Binders on the passenger side is how I always did when hauling coils because if I had to pull off on the shoulder to fix something, I wasn’t standing out in the road when re-tightening my binders.

I was expecting to hear that you found an additional load after realizing you had room on the passenger side! lol

Love it! Just remember the faster you go with a big load the worse MPG you get...like way worse than 55mph because of wind resistance.

Keeping your tarps in the back like that is dangerous, ive seen them come off the back over other trucks gojng down the road.

I have a 2018 F450 King Ranch and pulling my 40ft toy hauler at 60-65 I get about 10mpg. Great video Alex, keep them coming.

You should try to find a load to pick up on the way back to your starting point so that you can get paid to haul there and back if at all possible. Otherwise you're making $19hr after fuel costs. You took a 10hr day to drive up followed by an 8hr rest period, and a 10hr day to drive back, so that's basically a day and a half at least eaten up loading and doing the run. If you were able to pick up something else headed back from nearby you could potentially double your profits.

My 6.7 gets much better mileage at 65 then at 70 even when its empty.

Illegal. Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds. Be careful. That isn’t an overweight ticket. I know a guy who got caught

With a full load. How can you determine if you’ll be overweight or not in your drive axel before leaving the shipper, so you don’t have to wait till you get a scale ticket to know. Thanks

The weight, sure......but I reckon the 'sail' with transporting basically a big brick is going to kick your ass with wind resistance. For a 500-mile trip, you could still do it in a day going 60-mph instead of 70-mph. Especially if you're able to knock off a fuel stop from the trip. I like the way you secured it though.

The mpg at 60 would be substantially better. Aerodynamic drag increases at the square of speed. Drag is 36% higher at 70 mph than at 60 mph. A 1+ hour difference in 500 miles but can you use that hour saved by wasting gas? Is saving an hour worth $25 to $30 extra in fuel?

I think if an isuzu 4hk1 engine would haul that weight, you would get 14mpg.

Why use a pickup for hot shot that kind of weight. Wouldn't a freightliner M2 be a better application?. At the weight you are pulling you need a cdl anyway. Wouldn't a freightliner last longer. Breaks, tires, oil changes, stress on vehicle ect.

I would be nervous about hitting some heavy wind with an empty container. Surprising that they didn’t find a container closer by, they tend to pile up near distribution centers.

my friend next time: chain the four corners and make sure the loader center it correctly. forget about chaining the center. next time you deliver at homedepot, lowes, walmart, etc. go to their trash and take(ask) for a thick card board box, any card board. make a 6" x 6" square (at least 8) fold it in half ... make yourself a strap guard. buy a pcv pipe long enough for you to reach the top of container. center cut a 3" deep cut on both ends. a 4 ft pcv pole will do it. the pipe is there to help you place the guard on top and if the strap protector flies off...well, its card board and free.

Ive hauled two sets of two containers. No problems just catches wind. Only 6-7 MPH. 2020 RAM 3500. 25GN trailer

Super inspirational! First subscription ever! Wondering, could you possibly do this part time or would it even be worth it? I was in the oil field before and companies used hot shots a lot. I'm in construction now in WA state and doing quite well, but thinking about doing this to supplement on the weekend, what are your thoughts?

The speed is killing you. I haul hay all the time and on my last trip I had 8 4x4 bales stacked 2 high. Gross weight was just over 28k lbs, doing 60 mph I got 10.7 hand calculated with my 2019 cummins standard output.

How are you legal? 11,500 pounds max trailer weight before you exceed the GCWR of the truck. What's your GCWR on your door?

Not trying to be an ass or anything but you do realize that you are violating a couple DOT regulations that can get you arrested right? Seriously, get licensed properly and stop driving recklessly because if anyone runs into you or if you run into anyone in front of you, behind you or what have you, if the Police find out that you are driving without a CDL (because you are being paid to haul the empty shipping container from point A to point B, you MUST have a CDL Class A especially because you are hauling tandem axle trailer with a shipping container that weighs -- ball park -- 9,000lbs empty. so about 4.5 tons.) you are screwed man. Just saying, and common sense-wise don't be recording evidence of yourself committing a crime. (hint-hint)

Hi Alex, Just wanted to help You and Others stay out of trouble. Don't need any violations. Containers are a Federally regulated load! You should search for proper container securement regulations. I was stopped on top of Mammoth Mountain and educated by a very nice CHP officer. He even handed me a DOT pamphlet showing all the different securement methods allowed. The forklift pockets you used are not legal tie down points. When I was stopped I had technically tied down like you, pulling outward. Containers must be secured pulling inward from the corner securement points. Weather the top or bottom points. There are many different ways that are legal, if you really want to work yourself to the ground. Most are for loaded cans. When the opportunity knocks think about putting frieght inside the can to optimize your $$$$. Pass this on to that South Georgia Hot Shot as well. I started watching his channel quite awhile back. Oh and Vbelt as well. He may end up in a situation like this. Hope this helps.

Just found this vid, 2 questions. 1) why do you twist your strap instead of keeping them flat? 2) Do you pull with the “tow/haul” on like its engaged, or off like just normal pu truck driving?

Anything over 10,000 lbs gross is supposed to have DOT numbers and run a log book. Where's the DOT numbers on this truck?

My Dodge 3500 with the Cummins Turbo diesel will average 8.5 mpg with the same load

Your mpg would go up quite a bit if you dropped it to 60.

Tip for ya man- when using straps on metal - place an abrasion resistance pad between your load and strap. Old mud flaps work great. Slit them down to 6”-8” wide strips . That will help save your straps from gettin cut ..

Off topic but when washing your truck why didn't you get the classic wash? Brightener is free and will clean everything up without a brush.

I hauled a few containers out of Houston or Dallas to get home to San Antonio on Friday’s when there wasn’t anything moving.Truth be told they suck.Next time run your chain all the way at the front through the holes at the bottom corners of the container and at the rear of the container.

The first forklift was way cooler where you picked it up. I drove a 52’ car hauler and a F450 4x4, 6-14 mpg range, depended on the exhaust cleaning and the hills.

If you could pick up another light load going the same direction you can put it inside the container. BONUS 👍👍.. Put the container doors to the rear for access.

That forklift operator unloading you is an absolute idiot. As soon as he cleared your trailer he should have lowered it close to the ground. What does he do? Lifts it up. One gust of wind or a deep pothole and he will regret it.

I love this channel so much. I love trucking so much fr a tender age, the whole experience of being on the road different place each day, alone with a pet or so. But this I would do over trucking. Less journey and cost a whole lot less. Maintenance much easier also.

This might sound pretty silly but I wonder if you could fabricate a fold-down type wind diffuser or shield for the top of your gooseneck trailer if you’re gonna be hauling containers regularly and also if it would make any difference at all with mpg.

Good job! Usually the containers are crap pay. And everytime I did one (which was minimum) I said I wouldn't do it again. Lol Sometimes you just got to and sometimes you get paid good like this one.

You should look in to getting a windbreaker for your trailer when you are hauling containers cause they help a little whit the mpg
