This has been one of the hardest videos I've made so far. My first 6 months working as a mechanical engineer were absolutely miserable and I went through an emotional rollercoaster that taught me several important lessons. I'll share these lessons in this video along with the biggest challenges I faced, the best parts of my job, and the key differences between mechanical engineering in university versus industry. My goal is to share my personal experience and help you succeed in industry.

This is a great video! It’s good that you and other mechanical engineer RU-vidrs share their experience with entering the workforce for the first time. The culture shock one gets from transitioning from college to a company must be huge, maybe even if you had internship experience. One definitely doesn’t learn everything they need for their first job during college or even with internships (although it helps); but companies know that. With their first job, the engineer starts to grow as a professional, build a skillset, expand their network, and learn more about the industry they are in, and learn what they do and don’t like in engineering.

I enjoyed seeing the perspectives from a mechanical engineer. I work in a small company and worked with engineers, proejct management, purchasing, procurement, quality assurance, our suppliers and our vendors. It was helpful to see how these functional roles need to communicate and collaborate together to deliver products to market

I am also doing a job in electronics industry and I feel most of the things you said are related to my work. One thing I learned working in a corporate that I want to share with you is that " Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." I hope this lesson may help you to get rid of phycho people who work with you.

Your videos are truly fantastic! I'm currently in my third year of mechanical engineering and want to pursue a career as a freelance mechanical engineer. Is that a feasible career path? Could you possibly create a video discussing this topic? Your insights would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Your videos have helped me understand the realities of being an engineer. I see that a large part of the role involves contributing to capitalism by designing cost-effective and efficient production methods that increase the revenue of these big companies we are working for. Are there any creative jobs in the mechanical engineering field or is it all just maximizing revenue?

I think civil engineering in the public sector: theoretically designing people centered systems to make life better. Think water treatment systems, electrical grids, etc

Well, I’m from Jersey and I’m also going to college for Mechanical Engineering, I also wish to be in Aerospace but no good colleges with that major near me. I’ve researched it and have come to the conclusion that most Aerospace companies will gladly hire a MechE so good luck my friend

I went through that with a graduate student. This one goes back to the story about the employee who'd step into his cubicle and tell him he's doing everything wrong. I learned that lesson from this graduate student, too, that some people are always right and you have to work around them.
