It was a 10 hours long journey but it was comfortable. And the stunning scenery along the wilderness, small towns. Lakes, and mountains are totally worth the travel. It was an awesome experience.

I've taken this trip many times. I have to say that I find the scenery in winter better than in summer, because you get better views of the lake (not obscured by leaves on the trees). But it is spectacular any time of year.

@Gman 2060I think he meant Lake Champlain, for in spring and autumn you can view plenty of the Hudson,

I've travelled on Amtrak train (even former private RR Company before Amtrak merged) for 50 years. So, I go once (sometime twice) a year in any part of USA as I love it and no matter if on time or delays. Train travel is a blast and amazing trips.

This 'report' gives impression that there is no customs/border between Canada and USA ???,
@slimydick23
@slimydick23 3 года назад
it also gives the impression that you simply appear on the train in Montreal. It leaves out a lot of aspects. That border crossing is a bitch. I've taken this trip and the border crossing is absolutely the worst part. Makes me not want to do it again.

@slimydick23

@@grophers1189 long story short, headed north, Canadian Immigration came on board both ends into the middle and interviewed everyone. Then they removed about 5 of us one by one and repeatedly interviewed us about travel plans and went through all of our luggage, our pockets, our shoes and looked under the insoles. They said they smelled weed in my section of the train and wanted to see who had weed. Never found any weed. Held us up almost 3 hours. One guy they didn't let back on the train he had to stay there. They didn't think he had a credible story for how he would get back to U.S. It's very uncomfortable because if you're not Canadian, you have no rights at the border. For any reason they can simply deny entry. I imagine it's so much worse for non-Americans heading south though. My point is, it's better at airports because it's just you and you can fly anywhere if they reject you. But on a train they hold up hundreds of people and if they reject you, you're literally in the middle of nowhere. I have no clue what happens to people that have to stay in that shack. Passenger trains only pass each direction once a day.

Why it took so long by train. I just watched a video montreal to new York by car and it took 8 hours. Can you tell me the fastest method apart taking a flight?
@davisurdaneta1426
@davisurdaneta1426 4 года назад
There were about 10 stations to stopover, at the border crossing took about 50 minutes for US immigration officers to check passports and other procedures. It also took 20-30 minutes at Albany to detach section of the trains. I was aware that it will longer but my intention is to experience to journey. I don't know other faster alternative than flying. Cheers!

Prices vary with all travel transport options depending upon how far into the future you book, time of year, and holidays. Not to mention promotions. If you book today for tomorrow with Amtrak on short notice, the price is US$90.
@mariposapapillon9261
@mariposapapillon9261 4 года назад
Careful: If the train in either direction is mostly booked, you might have to pay $75 to $101 (one way). Best to book no later than two months ahead.

In this case, we were told to stay on our seat while at the border crossing, then the US Border Officers came inside the trains to do a quick interview and scanned our passports with a handheld device. It was very straight forward.
