Hi Tiffany, I'm in the UK and despite the terminology/yarn/sizing differences, I just wanted to say that I love your videos/tutorials as you have a great teaching style, so thank you for sparing your time for all these helpful videos 😊👏👍
I really love your videos, Tiffany. You are a great teacher of crochet patterns as well as the information needed to make each pattern. I made 7 blankets using the Moss stitch and sent them to my cousin in KS. She is half native American and gave several to elders at the latest Pow-Wow. Thank you for all you do for the crochet community. ❤
WOW! Thank you for using your gift of crochet to spread love and happiness. 7 blankets is a lot and to give some of them to the elders is so special. Thank you for crocheting with me and spreading the gift to make people's lives happier. 🤗❤️🧶
Tiffany I watched this vlog & gave it a shot. What an easy stitch. I changed it from a blanket throw to a cape. I am almost finished with it and will send you a picture when completed.
Awe!! Thank you so much! I'm so glad you found this video and like the blanket project. It is such a fun pattern. Hope you join me with the border video for this blanket. 😊❤️🧶 Coming soon.
Oh! Great catch! I have not made a tutorial on that beanie with those colors but I did make a tutorial for the same pattern using different colors. It's the Fall Glow Crochet Beanie. Here's a link for you to check out how the pattern is worked up. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oW4YLFis20Q.htmlsi=UqTSAQHzNsRuuUdl 😊❤️🧶
Hi Tiffany I live in BC Canada and can’t find number 5 cascade yarn that you use in this video. Love your tutorials. I am visually impaired and find them easy to follow. Thank you

I am very much a beginner and from South Africa. Size 5 weight yarn...is that the same as Kismet Arctic Chunky? We don't get size weight yarns in our descriptions at local shops so unsure. Please help.
Hi There! Yes, a size 5 weight yarn would also be classified as a chunky yarn. Great question. I hope this helps! You might also get a lot of use out of a Yarn Size Chart. You can find these through google images, or Pinterest.com for free. They break down yarn in all of the different ways it can be identified as. 🤗🧶💖
Lovely clear instructions, great video, thank you! I've just started this blanket but the 1st two rows seem to be curling or spiralling ? is it something I'm doing wrong or how can I correct it pls?
Hello! I’m so glad you are giving the My First Blanket a try! Ah, typically when someone sees the spiraling or curling it is do to tight stitches. You might want to try using a larger crochet hook to help you out. You could also try Blocking your blanket project when you have finished it to straighten everything out. 😊❤️🧶
@@CrochetWithTiffany hi Tiffany, thank you so much for the swift & helpful reply, I really appreciate it. I've undone my rows (only 10 so not too bad!) & started again on a 7mm hook, I'm up to row 8 & it's hardly twisting at all now, presumably as I do more it will lay flatter.... I've no idea what blocking is as I'm only a beginner, do you have a video on it pls?
What if i started by chaining 124 so the second row became 123. But the next row, became 122 and ended like it should in a double and single then skip and then a double. What just happened to my blanket?
Hi Tiffany, I love your videos. I want to make a queen size blanket and this video is so helpful. I live in Minnesota and I don’t want a blanket that’s to hot as I run warm at night and during the winter I keep the house temp at 66-67 degrees. What type of yarn should I use. I’m kind of a newbie. I think acrylic is hot. But doesn’t cotton stretch. I plan on using earthy colors. Thank you in advance! Scott Loessin
Hmm, I bet you would really like Bamboo yarn or a plant based yarn or silk because it is a temperature regulator. It doesn't get too hot or too cold. It manages to stay at this really nice temperature. 😊❤️🧶
New subscriber here.. I can't see your chart got how many stitches/skeins. For you have just a picture of it? I tried to SS it and zoom in but that didn't work lol
So when u say it will come out differently using a different bulky yarn what do u mean? Please let me know and will a 4 weight work if so what size hook but will most likely use more yarn right?
AH! Great question. Here's a quick video I made explaining WPI. I think it will help explain the different thickness within the same size yarn. WPI video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kx0vl3qHYw8.htmlsi=uR5BNQioW4yJhUj1 YES! That is exactly correct Karen. If you go do to a 4 weight yarn you will need to make a few adjustments otherwise the blanket will end up smaller than the dimension say in the chart. I would use an I/9-5.50mm crochet hook with the 4 weight yarn in this particular project. What's great about this pattern is that it is super easy to adjust. Just make sure you have a multiple of 2 in your foundation row. Grab your tape measure and count. You'll be fine to hit blanket dimensions. 🤗🧶❤️
Great question! Yes, you could definitely make a blanket with this pattern in a size 4 weight yarn. Because a size 4 weight yarn is thinner than a size 5 weight yarn your blanket will turn out smaller than the dimensions in the chart. You will find you need to increase the number of chains in your foundation row to get the width you desire. You will also want to keep a tape measure close so you know how many rows to make. 😊❤️🧶
Ah, without seeing what you are seeing, typically stitches will curl when our stitches or tension is too tight. There are 2 things you can do to help this. First, practice. I know that sounds cliche but the more you practice the more comfortable you will get with your stitches. Controlling your tension and just loosening up will help those stitches to lay flat. You could also try working with a larger crochet hook than recommended. The second thing you could do if after trying to loosen your stitches there is still a little bit of a curl, you can "block" your project after you have finished. The blocking will loosen up your stitches for you allowing the project to lay flat. I hope this helps. You got this. 😊❤️🧶
I've been crocheting this blanket and it so easy, but I'm having trouble keeping one side straight. What am I doing wrong? It is angling out diagonally, like a "v" on one side.
Hmm. Definitely make sure that you end with just one dc st at the end of the row. Maybe try counting your stitches also. When a blanket starts to angle on one side it is usually because there is an added stitch that is growing the project on one side. Stitch markers have helped people to stay on track if you would like to give that a try. 😊🧶❤️
Hi Tiffany, I’m newer to crochet & this is my first blanket. I started off ok but as I’m getting past the first couple rows, I find myself repeatedly decreasing in stitch count. My first row of single crochets was fine with 155 (156 ch in foundation row), and then row two appeared to work out fine but noticed my stitch count went down to 154. Row three appears to drop down to 153, possibly 152. This can’t be correct. What am I missing? I’m starting each new row with the chain 2, a sc in the first stitch (the ending dc from the previous row), and skipping the next stitch to start the [dc, sc, sk next st] pattern. I’ve tried using stitch markers to keep track of where I’m at & have redone rows to make sure I didn’t miss a stitch, but it’s turning out the same with decreasing stitch count. I’m lost as to what I’m doing wrong. Please help!
It's so hard when I can't see what you see. This is where my membership program really helps out because I can get little videos from you with questions, or you can join our zoom meetups and show me in person what's going on. If this sounds like something you would be interested in definitely check it out! I'm about to add so many fun activities it's going to be nutz. members.crochetwithTiffany.com. The only thing I can possibly think of is, are you making both the dc and the sc in the same stitch and then skipping the next, then dc/sc in the same stitch and skipping the next. The way you typed it out it looked like you might be making a dc in one stitch, sc in the next stitch and then skipping the next stitch... You are starting the process right on! At the end of the row are you placing your last dc stitch in the very last stitch or could you possibly be placing it one stitch space too soon? That could potentially cause a drop of a stitch. But it's tough. Sounds like you are doing everything else right. 🤔❤️🧶
Great question. I ended up using 11 skeins of yarn for the inner body of the blanket and 3 skeins for the border. My demo was just slightly larger than a lapghan size. But that was just my demo. Choose the size blanket you want to make and check the chart to see how much yarn you will need. 😊❤️🧶
You can absolutely use a 4 weight yarn and an I/9 hook to make this pattern. Because the yarn is thinner and the stitches will be tighter your blanket dimensions will end up smaller than what my chart shows. To get your blanket to size I would just make sure to chain enough chains in your foundation row to meet the blanket width. Then just focus on making however many rows you need until you have reached blanket dimension. 😊❤️🧶
No worries! You should be able to find it under your profile and purchases. But if you are still having trouble finding it then just email me and I’ll get the pattern sent over to you directly. 😊. Email: info@crochetwithTiffany.com
I've also heard that it is called the Lemon Peel stitch. I just called it a version of the Alternate Stitch. Haha, so many names. 🤗❤️🧶 Thank you @Crochetedbymichi!! ❤️
I figured it wasn’t the Suzette stitch. The SS starts with single crochet then 1/2 or double. When u look at the pattern it’s going zigzag. Beautiful work Tiffany. Working on this and think as I crochet about the border. I like the shell stitch. Just thinking. Will compare with my work.
You’re going to get trigger finger on your left pointer. Wind the yard around your pinki & behind all your fingers in your left hand and hold with your thumb and middle finger.
I appreciate you looking out for me. At this point it's just a muscle memory thing. I've been crocheting with my tension hand holding the yarn this way since I was a child. I never knew there was another way to hold the yarn until I started my RU-vid Channel. Always just taught myself and did my own thing. There are so many different ways I've seen people hold yarn on their tension hand. There really is no right or wrong way to do it. Just different ways. I do understand what you are saying about any potential issues that might develop. Nothing so far 30 years in. It's important for ALL crocheters to remember to take breaks and do our stretches because all crocheting can cause issues to our bodies. Take care! ❤️🧶
Hi Tiffany Hansen right now I am working on my cottage core mosaic blanket and granny squares blanket and butterfly mosaic blanket and I love your channel and your videos and if you keep making videos I will keep watching them and and is your favorite crochet project to work on right now and favorite types of yarn to used when crocheting and keep up the great work on your RU-vid channel and keep up the great work on your crochet projects
hi Tiffany. I live in n Ireland. I just love your videos, very easy explained love the blankets, thank goodness I can crochet , I made some for charities and animal shelters. Keep up the good work
I'm so glad you asked! You can't find the link to the border yet because I am currently in the process of making the video. We just finished voting on which border option the crowd wanted to add to the blanket yesterday. Now I'm working on putting the pattern together, getting the details in line and recording. The border video should be available next weekend. 🤗🧶❤️
