I had my first Broadway audition in 2014. About three years after I made the change from opera to musical theatre. I learned some great lessons that I still carry with me today.
We adopted Bella from PAWS Chicago, and it was the best decision we ever made. Adopt, Don't Shop!
32 BAR CUT is my offering to the theatre/Broadway community while everything goes dark during the Broadway Shutdown of Covid-19.
Be blessed and stay healthy!
Adrienne

Really great advice. Being able to understand that "your time/your moment" sometimes has nothing to do with you is so true. It also took my daughter two years for Disney on Ice to hire her. But in the waiting, she grew mentally, physically, and spiritually. It was during the waiting that she kept working and pressing on and became a national figure skating champion (Excel series). If she hadn't experienced the first rejection she would have never known how her hard work would pay off. Two weeks after gaining a national title, Disney asked her to join the cast. Sometimes it's hard to bless the rain when you're waiting for blue skies.

‘Scuse me lovely ma’am.... I resent that statement at 1:25. You play NALA on Broadway!!! It may have been tough but there’s NO WAY you’re not a dancer playing THEE NALA on Broadway. But your humility and modesty is so sweet haha.

You're very beautiful! I loved listening to your story. I did a few NY auditions in my 20s(I'm 46 now) and I wish I never stopped. My biggest audition was for the German production of Phantom. Stella Adler actually called me in after reading my resume and I was elated! They had me sing several other things, scales, runs, etc and were very positive and encouraging. I've been binge watching Broadway videos again and maybe I'll get back to it. You're awesome and inspiring. Thank you for this video.

I def relate to the perfectionism with dance classes. It can be very intimidating -- especially taking class in NYC. You get used to it though! If you think about it, you probably don't have time to stare at other people because you're focused on the choreography and yourself. The same is true for other people! No one is staring at you messing up :) Also def know the struggle of being a Southerner in CHI & NYC...I quickly learned to stop smiling at people I don't know and expecting doors to be held lol!

Hahaha! Yes! You can't smile at strangers up here in NYC. I had to learn that lesson quick! I'll take your advice when it comes to dance classes in the future. "No one is thinking about me!" Got it! Thank you for watching!

Thank you for sharing this insight. You're so right more than likely no one is staring :) It's such a hard mental mindset to shift in classes.

I can totally relate to that moment of trying to just start conversations with random people and then having their reaction making you feel small. I come from Oklahoma and that's pretty normal for us to strike up a conversation as well. It's the one part about this industry that really is had to digest. Thanks for sharing your experience so openly.

How do you get an agent? Around what age were you if your remember? Only asking because I’m 23 and scared I’m too late. What’s a “book” for auditions? How long did you perform regional theater before making it to a broadway audition? Is it difficult to get into them without an agent?

Biggest tips: Be honest about your abilities. Be confident with the skills you do have. Smile and have positive energy in the room. What you lack in technique, make up for in personality and charisma. 😃

Did you purposely name the dog “Bella” after the show “Beautiful”?

5:17 Wow, I would want to say to them in a judging tone, "Wow, y'all are not friendly." Just cause it's New York doesn't mean you have to be a jerk. Call me silly, but I want to change the cultures in places. Cause there's no benefit to the coldness.
