The whole series Is 12 issues long (three paperbacks with four issues each). As far as I can tell, Cullen Bunn usually writes some stories arc using four issues (Harrow County Is another good example). The main reason as you pointed out Is the pacing, the narrative progression. To be honest, I prefer a four issue Arc. The series Is one of my favourite reads of the year so far. It clearly deserves more love withhin the comic book readership so thank you very much for the Review. Abrazo!
