I definitely wasn't expecting to be milking any cows in June, but I've had one slip really early so I might as well since she's a nice one.
I am a bit hesitant to see if she comes into milk properly though as sometimes its bit of a gamble.

Shame about the premature calf loss. Good to have a house cow.😊

Bummer, kinda spoils your winter vacation from milking, if she's a younger cow i give them a chance, older cow need to come around pretty quick if they want to stay. On changing out rubber on clusters, try pushing the hose on first, this helps break the bond, as tube compresses from you pushing it, it expands and loosens it, try it, you will be amazed at the difference. Great video enjoyed it as always.

Hey Andrew. There is a company in Cambridge I used to work for that might still supply sawdust to farmers. Cameron Transport Ltd 👍🏻

I think ive heard of them. just got some off Finch's again, they had a wood chip - sawdust blend which looks pretty good

We have a rule if they slip in June they go on the truck. If they slip early July will they make it until Xmas. If not off they go.

Hey Andrew have you tried taking the milk tube off at the dropper instead of the cluster it can be easier and less chance of breaking the bowl
@TheOnceADayFarmer
@TheOnceADayFarmer 12 дней назад
never really thought of that but it would work I guess. I just take it off the bowl as its easier cleaning to clean the milk tube on the test bucket rather than the dropper but maybe I need to give it ago, thanks
@kirkforster5254
@kirkforster5254 12 дней назад
@TheOnceADayFarmer you still only clean 1 hose just the one connected to the cups the test bucket hose would purely be for vacuum unless the bucket gets to full.

When do you start spreading some magnesium oxide on the wet grass prior to calving, especially for the older cows?

I am from Ireland but work outside in eastern europe, do you get grass growth all year round in NZ
@user-pr8ib1sh8v
@user-pr8ib1sh8v 12 дней назад
Yes, our stock is outside all year long, but in southern parts of nz it does snow off and on during winter. Where this farmer is grass will be growing all year long, but more slowly in winter.

It really depends where about you are, but the further north you go the more winter growth you will have. this winter has been fairly warm which helps though Its to uncommon for us to grow more in the winter than the summer
