This simple but reliable escapement is copied from a novelty cuckoo clock and cannot be relied upon to keep accurate time.
I cut the escape wheel from brass sheet and filed it shape. The pallets are also formed from thin brass strip and the completed mechanism is mounted on a depthing tool designed by W. R. Smith.
This escapement is powered by gravity, a renewable resource.

I have seen all your wonderful cardboard escapements; I like them, but I have 2 remarks: 1. I think in all cases the pulling weight is too large. This causes hard collisions between the anchor and the scapewheel, and disturbance of the harmonic motion of the pendulum; there should be some visible recoil to approach the natural turning points of the pendulum more closely. 2. There was some discussion on the dependence of the frequency on the mass of the pendulum bob (contnd)

The weight? how does that affect the frequency of it, it doesn't on just a swinging pendulum.

ha ha that is funny "gravity, a renewable resource." I must use that line someday. Hey, if I make something like this and change the length of the pendulum, can I change the ticking rate? Like a metronome? thanks

(contnd) Because the pendulum rod is not without mass, the centre of mass of the whole pendulum lies above the bob. Increasing the bob's weight will lower the centre of mass, and thus lower the frequency (I don't think this is new to you). Best wishes, Ben van de Waal
