I started out in business… with a BS degree in Marketing & Management… I quickly found out that about 10% of what I learned in college was useful. The other 90% was only gained through experience and willingness to listen to those who had it. Fortunately for me… my first boss assigned a mentor to teach me that I wasn’t the smartest one in the room. It took about 6 months to figure out how to contribute enough to be worth my salary. Had I not learned that lesson early… I might have gone back to my dads dairy barn and milked cows forever! (There is nothing wrong with doing that but… A job that I was burnt out on.) Now on to part 2 on to see how you turned it around…,
You can tell how much you've changed with organization based off your RU-vid alone. The effort you put in this surprised me you didn't have a million subscribers. Thanks for all your hind sight it's worth more than anything!
Agreed, Love the video. So far Im 4 for 4 on the mistake list with ya but like you we are working to grow, learn and get better every day. Thanks again Mark!
The reason we do this is because it is more the rule than the exception that contractors make the same mistakes as I did. Our goal is to help others accelerate the learning curve. Keep on fencing!
Great content! Question about labor rate...if someone is starting out with very little experience is it better to charge a low rate until they figure stuff out? Or would you charge an appropriate rate right off the bat?
Charge appropriately from the start. If your rate is too low you will fill up on work that is potentially not proffitable creating a vicious cycle. The only way to grow your company is through profits and a quality team.
