Now that Fantasy Premier League has finally launched for the 2022/23 season it's time to start making our drafts.

Nice one Andy! Couple thoughts - on James, if they do move to 4 at the back, at least that also means he probably won't play cb at times, and re the 5 subs, presumably means complete no shows will be less frequent and therefore the need for decent bench options should be slightly reduced imo

I’m very much considering son against southampton, remembering a couple seasons ago the 4 goals he scored against us and I’m not very hopeful, kane got a goal and 4 assists that day and if need be you can always switch him to haaland for week 2

Hasenhuttl is stubborn with his tactics as well, he'll probably have his defenders on the halfway line again and wonder why he lost 9-0 for a 3rd time

With Kane and the slow starts what I meant to say was I think the Man City transfer stuff was an issue last year. It was the SEASON BEFORE that he got 19 returns in 12 games. Last season - awful 2020/21 - 19 in 12 2019/20 - 6 in 7 2018/19 - 6 in 7 2017/18 - 9 in 9

Thoughts on Trippier (5m), Guimares (6m), & Botman (4.5m)? Trippier will make assists (especially if a new RW comes in), Guimares is the general of Newcastle's offense, & Botman might take the Prem by storm with great 4.5m value!

Bruno g. Is nailed on starter and is an underrated option. Better players in makes nufc players great value. Look at the first 10 fixtures and they look a great bet.

I think it’s pretty safe to take a couple of risks early on this season as opposed to other seasons, with that extra wild card it just looks like if people without Halaand and Salah regret it early on they can easily change it with not too many issues

I advise you to watch the Man Utd preseason games very carefully. If Ronaldo leaves and they do not sign a striker, Rashford at 6.5 and Elanga at 5.0 will be really good budget enablers and If they nail a place in the starting 11 they are guaranteed points for that price range.

Completely agree with you on Kane vs Haaland. I think people are getting over excited about Haaland. Kane is proven in the EPL and plays every game. Haaland is not yet proven, has had a lot of time out for injuries, and could be subject to Pep squad rotation. Since they are the same price, starting with Kane is a no-brainer to me.

I had a similar team and formation to Andy’s, but now leaning towards a more aggressive selection and template for GW1-6. (5-3-2): Mendy; Chilwell, TAA, Robertson, Tomiyasu, Walker; Salah (c), Martinelli, Neto; Håland, Kane. PS. Re: Perisic - failed to last for more than 60 mins on 15 out of the 32 appearances (47%) that he made under Conte in the Serie A in 20/21 - now is he two years older & coming to a new league. Personally think Doherty is better value if you want a Spurs defender.

@@henrydauseb2844 Yes. Introduced as a sub in the final game of last season. Think Doherty (even with Spence as back up) is more nailed than Perisic, who has Regulion & Sessegnon to compete with.

Current draft: GK: Alisson (Raya) DEF: TAA, Cancelo, Tomiyasu, Perisic, Chilwell MID: Salah, Neto, Saka (Murphy, Longstaff) FWD: Haaland, Jesus (Greenwood) Really like the Arsenal opening fixtures, and a budget midfield and 4.5 bench FWD helped me justify Alisson.

Chelsea won’t play 4 at the back unless they’re playing a team who press with a front 3 and don’t have aggressive wing-backs (Spurs for example).

I always think 5 4 1 or 4 5 1 is the way forward to start the season. However, 4.5 forwards never play so i only want 1 on the bench and there is always one 6.5-8m forward that starts the season on fire. It means using 2 or 3 transfers to get them if all your money is in midfield or defence. Im going 3 5 2 with either two 8m midfielders and 5.5 forward or one 8m midfielder one 5.5 midfielder and 8m forward. I think the 5.5 has interesting options like gordon at everton and ramsey at villa. I do feel Diaz and Saka might be high ownership, so essential, tho so maybe Edouard 5.5m palace is the way forward.

One thing I don’t really agree with Andy is when you say you aren’t stressing about each exact player, like Neto could be another 5.5 etc I think you really do have to take into account the depth and quality of player at each price point. I’m a wolves fan and like Neto but realistically there are no other good options at 5.5-6.0. So it would have to be Neto for me, which does put me off a little bit because i feel it would be difficult to move him on. The 8.0 price point on the other hand is absolutely stacked so I think the argument of using placeholders does hold more firm there

My first draft was sone very quickly, and with very little thought. But here goes: Raya TAA - James - Andersen - Cancelo - Cucurella Salah - KDB - Diaz - Billing - Aaronson Alvarez - Mateta - Undav I like either Andersen or Guehi in defence, because they're both 4,5 and very solid. I'm fairly certain I'll have one of them in. I've picked KDB, since he's PL-proven, and Haaland isn't. And then I could swap them in a double-transfer when/if Haaland gets going. At the same time, I've gone with Alvarez up front, as someone who could be very good value for money. I was very disappointed with the forwards last season, which might be why I'm saving my money there.

My first quick draft. TAA Laporte Chilwell Digne Perisic. Salah Martinelli Neto Sterling Winks Kane Undav Greenwood. 0.5 in the bank. Sterling at 10 mill is kind of my flex player. 2 transfers if i want to get Son or KBB in or i can move him on if a cheaper midfield hits form. If he goes to Chelsea who onows how that will pan out. More minutes surely.

I prefer Perisic down to Neco Williams, enables you to switch between 4 and 5 at the back, with Pereira as a 4.5m mid, and another 7m midfielder, Raphinha at the moment as a Leeds fan - both of whom seem likely to start for their respective new teams.

Great draft Andy! My draft is only slightly different! You've double Chelsea at the back, I've gone with 4 at the back with Chilwell and one bench fodder and 5 in midfield with Rashford. With Ronaldo looking to leave, as it stands, Rashford could be the starting forward for united. I've also gone Kane as it stands because he's nailed and proven, I had the same idea, if Haaland hits the ground running, it's a simple move to bring him for Kane.

I did some approximations for Robertson's points last season. He finished on 186 points right, so hear this: He played only 29 games. In those 9 games missed he missed out on 3 clean sheets (12 points). Say he would have gotten 2 assists in that time as well (6 points). Then add on the points he would have gotten if he played minutes (9 games = 18 points), then maybe add 8 bonus points and, let me tell you, if he was healthy, not rested, and not suspended for the whole season, he sits on on about 230 points! That's 26 less that Son and 35 less than Salah! Remember, Robertson's a guy to play almost all Prem games in a season. For just 7.0, going without robertson seems almost as bad as going without Trent

Reassuring to see a first draft that's not a million miles from my own! I'm keen to put more money into the defence not only because there seems to be more value there, but mainly due to the introduction of five subs, plus a compressed start to the season for the sides in Europe. I can certainly see City, Liverpool and Chelsea subbing attacking players early if they are two or three up, and defenders seem a little less vulnerable to this. No Salah for me (yet), as I think there are so many value options in Midfield around £8m that the money can be spread around more effectively. But I know I'll panic two hours before kickoff and bring him in!

I think there's a lot more value in the Forwards this season than people are giving credit for Maupay and Mitro at 6.5; Toney and Jimenez at 7; and even Jesus and Havertz at 8m feel like better value than having that second 8m midfielder... Also gives much greater flexibility spreading those price points across different positions

One thing before I make my point, I just realised you look like Hopper from Stranger Things...its taken me 3 years to figure that out 🤷‍♂️ Now, about the forward line and to pick Haaland or Kane, and I'll add Nunez? I agree with you on Kane and not going with Haaland yet! Haaland has not proven himself against premier league opposition, but Nunez has proven himself against his new club Liverpool. I would find it difficult to not pick Nunez and Kane as a potent front line.

On the wildcard topic- we have to use the first one before gw16, then there's free transfers during the world cup, then we get another for the second half of the season. Personally, this has me leaning towards wildcarding immediately after gw1 to try to make as much money as I can early on from price hikes

james/chilwell to tomiyasu gives the option for a better first sub (e.g. undav as a forward or bruno g in midfield. The premium five at the back doesn't leave that much ability for variation, as the most popular formation will probably be 4-5-1

Andy's right 5 defenders is a must. Defenders score the same points as strikers now. Trent and Cancelo being a prime example. I have Trent, Virgil, Cancelo, Perisic and Laporte. City will have bigger scorelines, now that they have a decent striker in their Arsenal. Also not going near haaland. Too much hype. He'll be under so much pressure. He'll only score 170 points or so. Defenders midfielders score more. Not rocket science.

Initially I had a 4-4-2 with Håland / Jesus as FW and Tomiyasu as DEF on the bench, but then last night I decided to go initially with a 5-4-1 initially (Jesus / Tomiyasu OUT for Cheap FW and Cancelo), I think Cancelo will score more than Jesus (in the overall game) and he is 1 million less! BUT the problem is: it is so easy to find cheap 4.5 DEF (safer bench) but it is impossible to find a 4.5 FW which means to put Cancelo in THEN we have a weaker bench.. which is a dilemma specially in the beginning WHEN we do not know for sure who is 100% nailed... I agree toward the end we may decide to all go for a 4-4-2 instead ... I watched other Expert's opinions as well, some other experts says: "Having a weaker bench could be not a big problem this year because they will introduce 5 subs.."

I'm in a similar position as you Andy. I wasn't sure who to go for between haaland and Kane so I ended up dropping a premium defender to fit in both with Salah

I've the same exact team except I've got Haaland up top and I've got Laporte instead of Cancelo so I can upgrade one of the 4.5 forwards to Undav ( still considering Cancelo though )

Loving the early drafts man. Any thoughts on mine? 1st 11 - Raya, TAA, Chilwell, Laporte, Perisic, Salah, Foden, Son, Martinelli, Jesus, Johnson - Bench - Olsen, Dunk (interchangeable with Johnson), Andreas (TBC if signs for Fulham), Greenwood. I’m pretty happy so far. Other option is to go with 8.00 mid and drop Jesus. 👊🏼👊🏼

Regarding the draft, I think it's quite risky to start with no bench whatsoever. Two 4.5 forwards are two zero pointers which means you only have 1 playing sub, a 4.5 mid. I think you have to take out money from defense or downgrade one of those 8mil mids...

I've gone a little away from the template, I think the 4.5m defenders provide too good value for the price. My team as it stands: GK: Raya (4.5m), 4.0m GK DEF: Trent (7.5m), James (6.0m), Perisic (5.0m), Tomiyasu (4.5m), Lamptey (4.5m) MID: Salah (13.0m), Neto (5.5m), Sancho (7.5m), Saka (8.0m), Andreas (4.5m) FWD: Kane (11.5m), Darwin (9.0m), Greenwood (4.5m) What do you guys think of this, feel free to let me know what you would change, this looks like a pretty flexible draft that can target inform players in any position)

Darwin has too much rotation risk with jota, personally I would downgrade him to any 7m striker and upgrade lamptey to a 6m defender

@@adilk1181 I'm a Liverpool fan so I'm pretty sure we wouldn't spend ~80m on a rotation player. He's pretty nailed imo especially at the start of the season. Whether he lasts the full 90 is something else but a starting striker at 9.0m for the best or at least top 2 attacking teams in the league is too hard to pass up especially when Haaland is 11.5m

@@bluecow29 fair enough, however with these new 5 subs rule i do think jota will steal too many minutes from him. Whereas jesus at 8.0 is certain to play most of the minutes. You're better off investing in a 2nd liverpool defender who is better value, imo
