Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RU-vid!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
WARNING

“Gly”: Hope your having a great weekend everyone! Now, I understand that paranormal stuff can be quite controversial so before you comment please understand that I’m not trying to convince ANYBODY. I’m merely telling you my story as it happened and what I experienced. Oh… by the way… check out Mr M’s latest behind the scenes video at Abandoned & Forgotten Footage. Yeah but your sixth sense was talking too you the entire time wasn't it? How many times did you have to stop and calm yourself? Was it adrenaline or your sixth sense, your gut instincts, saying turn around?

😅💦 Glad you didn't go there. I was screaming in my mind "don't go there, don't go there!" I was surprised that you went that far in that hellhole. I'm sure it was your guardian angel sent by your father who came to stop you. And thanks, you too!

I was a underground coal miner for 45 years, retired last year. I never believed in ghost or goblins. That being said I was working one Sunday setting timbers about 2 miles from the portal where we cut into some old works that were mined in the 20s. I just got the timber sawed and turned around to set it when I felt someone behind me and heard the word damn. I was the only one in the mine at the time. I turned to see who it was, no one there but some slick bottom boot prints in the fresh rock dust and the smell of carbide. I changed my mind that day.

Quick question. What was your wage as a coal miner. Second did you receive a pension and is it adequate. I have never got a chance to ask that question of a 45 year miner. Thanks for the comment.

I think it was a warning, Gly. Something was telling you "get out of here, this place isn't safe!" Nobody is more superstitious than a hard rock miner, and maybe there's a reason for that. Strange things happen in the deep places in the Earth.

I would go with the "dad grabbing me by the belt" scenario. For me at least it makes the most sense, although I would see it not as a physical event but rather as your brain "replaying" those same sensations to you as a warning that you would be sure to recognize.

Gly, I worked in a building that was constructed in 1927 for 38 years and have had my share of unexplained occurrences. For me I usually do the same thing you did, I knew exactly what I was hearing until I realized it couldn’t have been what I thought. Honestly, I think it was your dad stopping you and you should just move on and not try do disprove what happened. If you are ever in the San Gabriel Valley area I would love to give you a tour of the building, It is an historical site with a major connection to early California and the Missions. Great to see you back and doing what you love! Cheers.

Gly, I try to do exactly as you do and find explanations for everything I can, but I do know that sometimes things happen that just can't be explained. My girlfriend and I had a voice scream at us, full volume, directly at us, and we're dead certain we were the only ones in the entire building. There's something to the idea of the paranormal, and on this day it very well could have saved your life

You are spoiling us today indeed. **gets a bowl of granola, sits down to watch, promptly forgets his breakfast and ends up with soggy cereal** edit: that’s a real sweet message to mum at the end there dude. My mom just got diagnosed with 3rd stage ovarian cancer and it’s been scaring the shit out of me lately, especially as she’s just started chemo, and that reminded me quite insistently to make sure to give her a call today. So thanks man. I don’t care what anybody says, it takes a big man indeed to say something like that and put it out into public awareness. Hopefully it will remind many other sons to appreciate their mothers even more when they see this, as it did for me.

The spiritual realm is bigger than anything we can imagine. I used to write off anything unusual as something with a scientific and physical anomaly that no one has come up with a proper explanation for. However, I have had a lot more experience and done a lot more studying since then, and ha have completely changed my mind. I don't believe in the ghosts of people who have passed away, but I do believe we live in world where much more is going on than we can see with our eyes. I don't believe the things in the spiritual realm can do us much physical harm, if any, but they can scare us into doing things that can be harmful to ourselves or others.

Gly, I used to work in the coal mines here in eastern Kentucky and I have been in mines with old workings in them that we cut into and the saying "Stay out stay alive" and trust your gut has saved my life and the lives of my co workers. I think you made the 100% best choice RU-vid is not worth your life, you have got to take care of yourself, if anyone in the comments says otherwise had never been miles under ground, it's a very different world and you have to trust your gut.

The mind is a powerful tool. When stressed or facing unique problems there is no doubt it can warn us of potential dangers. I personally do not believe in the paranormal and also have scientific mind. They say that 95% of us have experienced something unexplained. I fall in the 5%. I certainly believe that people believe their experiences but I also think it is us. As a geologist myself, and explorer, in Western Montana, when younger; I sensed danger multiple times but never attributed it to paranormal events.

Whatever it was, at least it made sure you'd live to tell the tale by inciting a hasty retreat. Some of the old miners really cared for their local Tommy knockers, in 1929 a multi-day quarrel broke out at a Pennsylvania coal mine when one miner said the mining companies should put radios throughout the mine so they could listen to music while they worked. This enraged another miner who angrily replied that the radios might scare away the Tommy knockers and even if it did not then they could still wind up dead in a cave-in because they couldn't hear the warnings from the "little people."

Back in the '60s I visited a house in Portland out by the train yards. It was huge, and old then. Anyway, I was walking past the front door, and I heard someone walking up the front steps, and they knocked on the door, so I opened it, there was no one there, but the walking continued past me, and up the stairs. Over the next few days the furniture in the house got moved around, I mean, like all the furniture on the first floor all pushed into the kitchen, with the door closed. The next night, everything was moved into the front room. That went on for a few days, this was a strange house, it had thirteen gables on the first and second floors, and in the basement it had thirteen corners. I didn't stay much longer in that place. LOL Poltergeists are real, not just in the movies. Anyway, what I was getting to is, we are not alone on this beautiful blue ball flying through space, and never have been. Sometimes you get a tap on the back, hear a word, but you know there is no one around. Trust that "gut" feeling, it can save your life. Thank you, Gly, Mr.M, and of course Randy for another great explore of Abandoned and Forgotten Places.

When I trained as a psychiatric nurse in a big Victorian asylum back in the 1980’s I had 2 experiences when I was alone - its difficult to describe other than a sense of foreboding and just wanting to get out of the place I was in as I was in a locked area alone. The second experience I said in passing to a colleague about what happened and she became really angry and told me to stop messing around, perplexed I said what are you talking about and she went on to say about a patient who regularly used to be admitted saying he was going to kill himself went missing from the ward as he was deemed low risk and was found hanging in the extensive foliage in the grounds by some kids from outside the hospital. The place where I had the bad feeling was where he was sleeping on, the nurse and colleague had seen his ghost apparently and were scared witless as nobody believed them. I neither deny or support paranormal situations since this experience -some things we have yet to discover I guess.

Basically, you were pushed by a entity, telling you to stop going any further. Whether it was a ghostly miner or your own protective angel.

Crazy theory:- after watching some strange lights appearing at the volcano at La Parma. Could there be a build up of electric from the compression of Quartz crystals that passed through your body. Thus the clicks and muscle spasm.

That rock you put your hand on as you started to turn around and you looked down at might explain where your mind went to estimate the size and shape. But being so far back behind it couldnt be what hit you.

You have more bottle than me going into these mines. - I’m bricking it just watching this 🥹I appreciate your work and anyone who might dismiss then thats for them but where I live in South Wales UK there are plenty of disused mines which as kids we’d explore but when one of my older brother’s friend got killed our antics stopped some of these mines were pretty spooky. I would not bother going back as maybe its not meant to be and a warning.

I had a very strange situation similar to yours. A few years back I was exploring an old mine in the Utah west desert that was at the time still unblocked. A buddy of mine has been exploring mines for many years and this was my third time out with him. I was pretty deep into a vertical shaft and he was above me waiting to come down behind me. I heard him, clear as day say, “it’s time to turn around”, and because he is far more experienced as I am, I didn’t hesitate, I turned around and climbed back. As I climbed out, I realized he was way ahead of me, almost out of the mine, standing almost to the entrance, just staring at me. He said “where did you go?” I said “I was down the shaft when you told me to come out”. I thought it was really strange he left me behind, and he looked very confused, and said “I heard you call out to me…” and he pointed to the entrance of the mine. He said he heard me calling to him from outside the mine, and he went looking for me and couldn’t find me by my Jeep, so after a few minutes he went back in and heard me walking to towards him. We left the mine and just sat there very confused. He heard my from outside the mine, I heard his voice inside the mine… our voices were telling each other it was time to leave. We argued about it for a minute and decided to drive home. We argued this over the next few times we were together, jokingly blaming each other for wanting to leave early and wasting our day. We decided to go back, and this time we brought another friend to the mine, and the entrance had completely collapsed. Something tells me that it was something or someone looking out for us.

You don’t need to explain to anyone when or why you don’t feel comfortable moving on to explore something dangerous. Stay alive Gly. Welcome back, see you on the next one 😎
