I'll be sticking with these music and settings choices. I appreciate the concern but I think it's best to move on from that!! I can always react to the OG. Thank you for watching ♥♥
I think it's perfectly fair. You can always go back and experience the first game in OG settings. Halo 2 is wonderful in its OG settings too, but I think the anniversary update is best executed on there. Then by Halo 3 you don't have to worry about OG versions so you'll be okay!
The problem is that the updated graphics are not just updated in fidelity, they completely ruin the atmosphere of the game and especially some of the later levels. The cutscenes also lose all of their character with the new graphics. Please please please let your first experience of this classic be the original form.
So that terminal you found was added when the anniversary edition came out and was not a part of the original game. some of them can spoil things for you and you wont understand most of them so it might be better to watch them all together once your playthrough is done. I'm excited to watch you play the rest of this series i grew up with!!
The ones on Halo 2 aren't so confusing. They serve as a extended cut to the game. But watching them all together after the game is a good advice. The terminals from Halo CE were released after Halo 3 so I think that's when the player gets the best experience out of watching them.
I just discovered this recently myself! Having played the games way back when, I recently played CE again. Right after the first terminal I was like ".... yeah this is some Halo 2 ish". Any time there's talk of prophets and constructs and spooky space language, it's def sequel material
What Johnson says at 5:48 actually changes depending on the difficulty you select. There are a few other cutscenes throughout the series that have small changes like that.
33:18 20+ years of playing Halo, I don't think I've ever seen one elite melee another elite to death like that Also Meg sitting there after killing Johnson and the other marine, remembering all the trailers with the old marines talking about how chief is the only reason any of them are still alive, and thinking "they really oversold me"
This is exciting! And you're accidentally in subtle cosplay with a green shirt and orange hair to match Master Chief's armour & visor, looking forward to this :)
There's a fan theory that goes, since Chief was the only one not sitting down and strapped in, and given how tough and heavy his armor is, he inadvertently killed the Marines by bouncing around the escape pod like a pinball.
What happened is Bungie couldn't figure out how to make the Marines survive the landing the all died the moment the mission starts so they just left them died
I mean I think it was literally a joke that the lead devs said in their Developer Commentary run of the game waaaaay back in the day. Marty or Joe or Jason was joshing about it.
You couldn’t pick up health because you already had full health. Your health doesn’t start taking damage until your shields deplete. If you escape combat long enough for your shields to recharge before you took health damage, then you can avoid getting hurt.
RIP Johnson lol. One of my favorite little things in all the Halo games are the soldier buddies you fight with. Its always fun to try and keep them alive.
19:15 - so, funny you should say that. Plasma weapons (alien guns) are good at stripping shields, yours and theirs. ballistic weapons, human guns, are better against unshielded targets (generally). The human pistol is considered OP in Halo CE. Have fun :) 49:16 - in halo CE, Johnson can die but he will respawn in the next encounter/level, so he’s never gone for good. Don’t worry! He’ll just walk it off!
Game UI literacy: the reticle (circle on screen where bullets go) indicates the range/accuracy of the weapon. Bullets can be expected to hit anywhere inside that circle. If your target doesn't completely fill that circle, you might not hit it.
So Halo 1 was a game released back when games had a physical guide alongside them, so there's a couple of small things that I don't think are actually mentioned in game but that the first game just assumes you know. The little guys with pistols are known as Grunts, the really tall aliens are their leaders, called elites, and the weird birdlike aliens carrying shields are known as jackals. Their armor colors are a sign of rank, and ingame will tall you how much health they have, for example a blue armored Elite is the lowest of that species, and purple-ish Red is one rank up from that. Plasma weapons Are generally better at burning through shields (Both the round shields jackals hold, and the personal shields that both Master Chief and the elites have), and regular bullets do more damage to health when their shields are depleted. You can pick up ammo for regular guns normally, but Plasma weapons have an internal battery, so you have to replace the gun with a completely new one if you want more ammo for it.
The magnum is probably the best gun in the game, but you are allowed to use other weapons lol. Tip: The big dudes have shields that will regenerate if you wait too long to finish them off.
After watching your reaction vids im so glad you're playing through this. Btw their weapons are good for depleting their own shealds and can hold down the trigger button to easly do this. Mainly on the plasma pistol for an easy kill. Happy hunting. :)
I love the idea that everything Meg says is canonically Master Chief speaking, that there's an alternate universe where she voiced Chief instead of Steve Downes. It would be a different, more adorable, and still wonderful game.
Man.. chief meeting keyes hits harder now knowing that cortana is essentially a clone of keyes's lover. So yeah.. of course he cares.. shes supposed to resemble halsey... and itd probably the last physical representation hed ever see of her before the flood eats up his memories.
The thing you found was one of the lore bits added in the Anniversary remake, scattered throughout the levels. Anniversary Edition was not made by Bungie (original developer), so these are something of an addition to the game by the studio-inheritor. I'm not sure if they will make much sense to someone who haven't played the trilogy before. But I suppose it wouldn't hurt, if you're interested.
So there’s 2 types of grenades. The (human) frag genades, which you can lob pretty far and the (covenant) sticky grenades, which you can throw for shorter and will, as the name implies, stick to who or whatever it touches first.
YES you’re going in release order! Hope you have as much fun and moments of awe as I did when I was a kid playing these P.S. I would avoid the little animated cutscene thingies that you find in the middle of missions - they contain lore but sometimes they’re spoilers because the devs seem to have assumed everyone playing would have already played the Halo games. They were not in the original games.
50:45 that’s a terminal. You should wait to watch them all until you finish the game. It contains spoilers for this game. The terminals have a ton of lore so do watch them just not yet. I enjoyed episode 1 can’t wait for the rest.
Oh cool! I’m actually reading the first halo book “Fall of Reach” at the moment, and haven’t played the games yet. So can’t wait to go on the adventure with ya, Spartan Meg~
I don't know if you knew this, but "The Fall of Reach" book actually came out before the first game. It was meant to be extra backstory for people to read before playing the first game, if that was something they cared about. The "Halo: Reach" game unfortunately makes some changes to what was said in the book, but they are still mostly compatible.
@@Yay295 I do know it’s a prequel but I don’t know how long before halo 1 the first 4 books take place before, but yeah, it’s keeping me invested as my intro effectively to Halo. Also I did hear some weirdness with reach but I’ll get there when I get there
i remeber playing halo on my old xbox not one not 360 XBOX the original console i got when i was like 8 or 9 so this is nostalgic for me now at 24 years old .
As player who has been playing CE for more than 10 years now. This hurt. Physically and mentally. But good on you Meg for playing this series, it's an absolute blast and the beginning stiffness will wear off with playtime.
I once saw someone say that they didn't understand why Covenant weapons were so effective against the Covenant. Why would they be weak to their own guns? And I was like "Well... we're weak to OUR own guns." And suddenly it made sense lol. In all seriousness, it's a nice attention to detail, because of course they'd create weapons they find especially effective at killing members of their own races, since that's who their earliest conflicts would have been against. The same way humans upgraded weapons to more effectively fight other humans.
It fills my heart with so much joy to still catch people trying the franchise out for the first time. I hope you have a fantastic time! Can't wait for the next episode
SO you know plasma guns do lost of damage to shields but projectile weapons are better one they have dropped their shields. Also Melee attacks are suprisingly effective. Beat grunts to save ammo and after you pop an elites shields you can drop them with melee, in one hit if you get them from behind and their shields are down.
The cutscene you saw, called a Terminal, was not part of the original game. It was released for the anniversary edition as some extra lore content. I don't expect the terminals to make sense at this point, but it's still very enjoyable seeing you interact with them and ask questions!
I've been hyped to see you experience this! Welcome to the Halo universe. I still remember standing in line for the midnight release of Halo 2 as a kid, these games stuck with me.
Yet another newbie experiences the sheer epicness that is Halo! It's never too late for that! Really looking forward to seeing you play through the series. Legendary stuff awaits!
lol the warthog driving section was the most relatable thing ever. I remember playing this game for the first time and flipping that thing a million times, haha
So excited to take this great journey with you! Also seems cool to see it through a fresh pair of eyes as my first play-through was so long ago I had almost forgotten it
One front row seat for me, please. Have a good time, Meg. The attention to the soundtrack that you show is marvelous to me. Music is an exceptionally powerful part of this franchise, if not the most powerful.
This was the OG Xbox game, if you don’t do legendary you’re missing out! On most of the games you’ll get special rewards like armour and helmets. Hard to get but so worth it. You should react to the trailers for halo wars and halo wars 2
2:20 Funny story!! When the MMC first came out my house had very bad wifi and it took TWO WEEKS for the campaigns to download 😭(this was before ODST or Reach were in the collection too, since it was originally just going to be the games which Chief in them- hence the name) lol I hope it didn't take your game so long
You probably already know at this stage. But that loredrop is from the masterchief collection. All those terminals with loredump were not there in the original game. Some are spoilery of the story, some not so much. They have good lore, but I dont feel they were as carefully thought of and placed in the game as they should have been, to keep a coherent storytelling. They just... splattered them all over the place honestly...
@MegMage you truly are going to be on a journey with this game franchise. This was like the first game on the Xbox I ever played and I played with my brother. The first several games really were amazing really great character development and story was just phenomenal. Bungee really did make a masterpiece And I'm glad you're like going on this journey I promise you this you're going to laugh you're going to cry it's going to get you in the feels
Welcome aboard Spartan! I dropped on installation 04 in nov of 2001 and have been playing Halo since. So glad to see you kids joining the party! Cheers and squad up!
So covenant enemies have shields like you (not grunts) which means they take less damage from ballistic weapons until you pop their shield; you’ll notice this when an enemy has a little blue explosion go off but doesn’t kill them - once an enemy shield is depleted they die to regular guns very quickly, the pistol will one shot head shot even elites at this point The easiest way to deplete shields is by holding the fire button with the plasma pistol (green bullets) to charge the shot, this will instantly destroy enemy shields and the best part, the charged short homes in on enemies So when fighting covenant one ballistic weapon and one plasma pistol is your friend - plus since almost every covenant member carries a plasma pistol ammo isn’t an issue
This was so fun! Its really nice seeing someone play this without knowing anything. My bestfriend in 2003 had me play the whole story with him in one night. I remember saying "this looks dumb" lol but in the morning I was a Halo fan😅
Halo is my favorite videogame franchise ever as I grew up with it and it holds a special place in my heart. Halo 3 is definitely my favorite and I can't wait for you to get to it!!!
When you throw nades tilt your character's head upward to increase distance, when using the pistol or other rifles aim for the enemies' heads to do increased damage, the elites will stagger and become one-shot when you break their shields so press the attack before their shields regen, and the radar on the left will show you which character is an enemy or ally. Some weapons (like the AR) are close-range so that's why they seemed like they weren't doing any damage. Hope this helps enhance the experience haha
I always smile seeing people play this game for the first time because it reminds me of my own first time experience and the nostalgia just comes flooding in
Halo 2 is much better about this, but just be aware that sometimes the updated graphics don't match the original physics. So if you fire a shot and it hits something you can't see, try switching to the old graphics - you might be shooting a wall.
I wish I knew about this series when they were releasing. Seeing someone else experience Halo for the first time is such a great time! Gonna binge the whole playthrough and can't wait for the other games
I seen some playthroughs of the master chief collection and I seen that some people skip cutscenes without realizing it. The best advise to prevent this is, if you quit the game at the start of a new mission don't press "continue" or "resume" once you get back to the game instead you better go to mission select and select the mission this should show the intro cutscene of that mission that the resume option sometimes skips.
If you haven't read the book, Fall of Reach, which came out around the time of CE's release, I highly recommend reading it. I can't remember if they've tweaked it since the game Reach, but it gives a lot of background lore on Chief, Keyes, and Cortana's creator, Doctor Halsey, among other things. Halo has a surprising amount of depth to its lore that is sadly left out of the games (though I assume that was initially due to engine limitations and time/budget constraints). I'm looking forward to watching this playthrough and catching up to Halo 2!
One of my favorite things about Halo is that the reason the CE pistol was so strong was because originally they meant to have a single shot rifle like the DMR in the game too, but the art and animation wasn't done in time, and the programming for the pistol wasn't done either, so they just put the pistol art on the rifle programming and gave us the scoped desert eagle of death.
Hallo Meg I wish you much fun with the Halo Franchise 😄 Lot of us are longtime Halo fans since 21 years and spent a lot of our childhood with this franchise and gained also a lot of friends over the years. What made us love the franchise is the overall package.... the epic music from Marty O'Donnell, Jen Taylor and Steve Downes as the voices of Cortana and Master Chief, the Unisverse, the storytelling and the massive lore of Halo. Not only from the games but also from the books and most of the TV shows (Forward Unto Dawn, Nightfall and Fall of Reach, Legends) that came some month after release as movies. I remember clearly how I got to Halo as it was yesterday. Once again I wish you a lot of fun 🙂
