The horse I ride on was named Smudge. I almost fell off him because he yanked his neck but good thing that I hold on to him. If you like this video please thumb up and subscribe to my channel & pleas comment if you liked it. Thank you!
So adorable, I feel like we all remember that first lesson. What she said about not brushing the tail, but only on special occasions. A couple of the horses I ride I try and brush them almost every time I ride bc they have super thick tails.
i love how you were showed eveything before getting on, when i started they were already tacked up waiting for me to hop on a ride lol. now im glad i have some very nice stables where i volunteer with lessons and stuff, also have a few loans and shares
@@blonde.045 You probably either dont ride, ride terribly, or are a beginner and think you know everything. She did very well for her first lesson. I dont know what you expected her to do, she doesnt know anything, and she picked up on everything she was taught. Stop being so judgmental
I always find the back feet are much more uncomfortable to pick, and my long hair always gets in my way, don't come at me, I know most equestrians wear their hair in a ponytail or bun, but I like my hair down, I don't know why I just feel more protected/secure having my hair around my neck, I know, it's weird, but I just feel more comfortable having my hair down😅
@@sofiaequestrian101 it’s not necessarily Normal but it’s perfectly fine to keep it down, it’s just how you feel most comfortable but at shows it’s best to put it up in a bun or ponytail just bc it looks better
Just a tip you want to make sure your heels are down incase you fall forward your heels will catch you and you want your stirrups almost to your toes great first lesson
I know this was last year, but you did great in your first lesson. It only gets harder from here, trust me. I've been riding since I was 7 and have had too many accidents to count. I noticed a few things your instructor did wrong. One, is the leadrope. There was a loop and if the horse had've pulled away or bolted off, you would've lost a few fingers or even your entire hand. Two, she should've had her entire focus on you, not the other students even if she is the only instructor around. When I was teaching at my old barn, if I had a beginner with me who knew next to nothing of how to do stuff, they'd constantly have my focus on them. If someone had a question, I would tell them to ask a friend first. Anything can go wrong. And third, she should've put you on the leadline as a new rider, which also wasn't very safe.
You did amazing for your first lesson! My first ever lesson I only sat and walked on the horse! didn't tack up or lead it or anything! This is an amazing riding school!!
You are so lucky to be able to groom and tack up, i have my first lesson in 4 days and I’m so exited I’ve ridden before in a horse camp and trail rides but never a real lesson the horse is so cute i can walk, trot, and canter a bit ❤
You did wonderful on your first lesson! I've been riding for 4 years now and you did way better than me on my first lesson! Glad everything went well! ❤
So wonderful to see such an excited kid working with a trainer whom is just as excited to teach! I started riding when I was fourteen, and was put on a malnourished off the tracks thoroughbred stallion for my first lesson. It was not an enjoyable experience.
You did so good! I know they have probably already told you this by now :P But You usually should not hold a lead rope in a loop around your hand, if the horse bolts it would tighten around your hand and drag you along!
So cute your a amazing rider now! Always get back up on your feet! One time my horse bolted started gallop kinda and I was hanging off but it’s all about the leg so I stayed o!
omg ik im late but ur such an inspiration! i started lessons when i was 6 but i had to stop due to covid and we just got busy. Im gonna start lessons soon, but i keep feeling like it's way too late for me to start and i'm gonna be behind everyone. You really made me feel better!
I’ve never ridden a horse and don’t know anything about tacking them up but I try watch these lessons to teach me so I’m bit more confident when I can have lessons but atm parents money tight
In my first horseback riding lesson, you had to take 5 or 6 tack lessons before you actually rode the horse or pony. Lucky! You did good for your first one! 👍🏻
As an equestrian I want to give a tip, when using the reins to control the horse you have to keep your hands on the horses mane and the reins have to be a little bit shorter Edit : I'm not english so I didn't know how withers were called so I gave an example as to how I saw, I'm not a perfectionist so I just tried 🤣
Very good for your first ride! A tip for standing still is dont pull on the reins. Just let them hang. The reason the horse was backing but at 15:28 is because you where pulling on the reins. He put his head back to move away from the bit and that is also why he jolted his neck down.
U did well for a first time! Iv’e been riding for almost 5 years now but when I did my first lesson I think u did better then be honestly!🥰 Great job!👍🏻
I remember my first lesson I was only 5 years old it was close to summer and my teacher taught me how to pick a horses hoof, brush them and also how to go behind a horse without getting bucked but every since we moved I haven’t ridden a horse since but I miss those times
@@cathypaul9077 Being taught to pick the hooves is a VERY important skill, especially so that you know how to treat thrush and/or get a painful stone out of their hooves. For a second or third lesson, they should know how to pick out. But for a first-ever lesson, if they’ve never done it they should learn about how sensitive the frog is!!
I had my first lesson and they were amazing help they showed me how to tack up and groom! and they also showed me how to take care of a horses stable! then after that I mounted and I was a little stiff at first then I kept having lessons every Sunday now I'm better then I was!
For your first lesson you did amazing my first lesson was horrible I was forced to trot straight away I didn’t know how to hold the reins control stop or kick the horse but I’m better just working on my foot position In the stirrups
Just a thought I had. When you were stopped in the middle of the area your horse started backing up and tossing their head. This was because when you come to a full stop you can loosen your rains and ease up on there mouth. BUT FOR YOUR FIRST LESSON YOU DID AMAZING!!! WAY BETTER THAN ME!!!
@@stevenhenry4227 yo chill we are just try to prevent accidents from happening that could be Fatal..........My friend lost her temper with her horse and yanked him in the mouth, and did not release, her horse bolted to the fence broke it and he broke his leg and had major phycological issues. luckily my friend emergency dismounted. she sold the horse after he went through thousands of dollars on rehab.
I would've loved to have learned with a trainer at a riding school, Instead my parents purchased a horse when i was six (TB x Irish, hunting horse 17 2) and said we will teach you! They're both hunters so they knew what they were doing. I had to learn everything in a field instead of a school. There way of teaching was me riding with them. In a way i learnt faster than a lot of people, so thats a win. I have now ridden horses for just over 10 years and i dont regret it one bit.
Just wanted to ask (I'm about halfway through so far, looking good) is there a reason for that ad line running right through the video? Is there a way to turn it off? I find it distracting because it covers up the important things that you're being taught. I like to watch how different instructors teach their beginner riders. Thumbs up so far!
What type of hair does she have? I know it’s a helmet but like do you know if like when you’re outside you need like a little sun protector thing that’s on the front or like a regular Viking helmet
People in the equestrian community can be horrible to people who are just starting off! So if anyone at the yard doesn’t make you feel welcome just remember that they are just jelly that you are starting to ride and that one day you might be better than them. Everyone’s lovely but there will always be people who think they’re better than you :( keep going your doing great believe in yourself !!!
I let my 15 yr old brother that's scared of horses ride my horse the other day, he was so sweet and good and I decided to let him walk by himself but me still beside him. He took of cantering and my mom and to run Infront of my horse to stop. It's not my fault my horse likes cantering.😂😭
You can call me bias because I have riding for many years at this point, BUT HOW DID SHE TROT ON HER FIRST LESSON- like help. It took me 4 months to be able to trot. It only took two to be able to jump, BUT HEY WE ALL START SOMEWHERE
Gosh- so many people in the comments saying things like; "Is that a bike helmet???" And "You should have been on a lunge line for your 1st lesson!" C'mon... Why would she have to be on a lunge line!?! And its obviously a riding hemet! In your 1st few lessons, you are learning to steer- YOU DONT LEARN TO STEER ON A LUNGE LINE- When I had my 1st lesson, we never used lunge lines- We just walked aroung the arena by ourselves! You dont need a lunge line! Even at my 1st canter- We did NOT use a lunge line! Because you dont NEED one. They are using well and highly broke schoolmaster horses. Its not a big deal. In other videos of people jumping for the 1st time, people in those comment sections have been complaining about how they jumped before they could canter- but thats how it was for me to. So- Reapeat after me; IT. IS. NOT. A. BIG. DEAL. Simple!
Good instructor. But if this is her has control, balance and now what pressure and release means plus and riding cues are. And has all body positions. Only thing I would like to see is more safety. I as an instructor will not allow children under eighteen inter or handles without their helmet is on. I seen to many children hurt around horses with out one. That's my opinion and suggestion. Also I like children on a more suitable size horse for their height.
I'll start mine this Saturday! And I am really confused about my uniform, principally the foot wear, I don't have the boots yet, can someone help me please?
