Thanks Felipe. I do struggle with this content and whether it should be on our Fstoppers channel or not but since we reach so many people and Lee and I are the main faces on this channel, I feel like it's a good platform. Thanks for letting me know you appreciate it too even though it falls outside the normal scope of our content. -P

@@FStoppers IMHO use the channel, it will have more reach, you built it, you should be able to use it for a good cause. We are humans and life has it's challenges, if we never use we have at hand for the good, we won't be doing our moral duty... and btw, if someone doesn't like those videos you labeled so clearly that they can just skip it and wait for the ones they want to see :)

I've been sitting in the bathroom with my first humira pens in my hand for about 20 minutes and was psyching myself out and couldn't do it. I walked away, found your video, sucked it up and just did it, and you're absolutely right. It was so easy, could barely feel anything from the needle or the liquid. Way easier than stelara for me. Thank you for helping me put my big girl pants on 🤓!

Wow, Patrick. You have my utmost respect for choosing to share your experience with everyone here. What a fantastic video you have put together for folks that maybe have just been diagnosed and are freaking out about having to take shots in the stomach. Hopefully those people will come across your video here and have their fears abated. Well done, sir.

Thanks. I know it's not our typical content but I was pretty freaked out watching the older injection videos myself. When you know you have to take a shot every 2 weeks for potentially years, seeing those videos was a bit nerve-wracking. -P

It seems people who've been on it long term prefer prefilled syringes. I can say that it was painless near belly button. I'm going at 45° angle. The difference is you don't have a spring launching the needle. You control it.
@FStoppers
@FStoppers 7 месяцев назад
I've been on it for 4 years now and I don't have any issues. Are you suggesting you have an actual needle that you have to inject yourself like an insulin needle? I def prefer this system they have personally. -P

Yes, that's correct. Look up Humira prefilled syringe and it should come up. Definitely smaller but possibly easier to break while traveling.

I just started and I was so anxious about injecting myself. I've never given myself a shot. So I took the meds in to have the doctor help me. And I didn't even feel it ....haha. The anticipation is much much worse than the actual injection. I didn't have any negative reaction. God I hope this stuff works.

@@ivebenjaman Hi. 😊 Yesterday marked my 4th biweekly shot. So far so good!! 2 days ago I woke up and didn't feel like I was 80 years old!! I usually have a lot of pain in my lower back and hips. I didn't feel a need to take my steroid!! So that's a marker for me. The pain in my hips and joints is feeling better. The fat toe I had (dactylitis) is less swollen and my skin is feeling less dry and itchy. I have enthesitis that makes me feel sore and achy ALL the time... But it's absolutely improved. The best part I've noticed is my gastro problems seem to be getting better. I have had really uncomfortable digestive issues that seem to be improving day by day. No issues at the injection sites and I may be jumping ahead here... But I can see some new nail growth at the cuticles that actually looks almost healthy. I suppose only time will tell but I'm marching forward with this new medication. I think it's actually working!!

Been doing it for 11 years. I have a 3 months supply in my frig. The pins are injected right next to my belly button. It works and has stopped my Crohns from attacking my body. It’s ok if you miss your injection day. It should be easy delivered to PR.
@FStoppers
@FStoppers 5 лет назад
How did you get 3 months supply? I haven't pressed my insurance but I've heard they don't want to give you more than 1 month for some reason. -P
@dphotos007
@dphotos007 5 лет назад
Fstoppers when I switched to a new insurance company they gave me a two months supply and I had a months supply carry over from my other insurance company. Now every month they supply me with a new box. I have 3 boxes in my frig with 6 pens. Tell them you travel and need to have extra because of your job. Make an appeal with your insurance co. Mine uses CVS mail order. I order a new box online every month and it takes 2 min to complete my order and I pick a day and they ship cold. Talk to your doctor too about getting an extra supply. He can request it. I highly recommend you doing that. I can’t tell you how much this drug has made my life better. Give it 4-6 months it takes time to work. I wish you the best. You can always contact me about Crohns. I have had it since 1974. I have taken just about every drug for it and had many resections.
@FStoppers
@FStoppers 5 лет назад
Interesting. I contacted my GI Doctor and he said he doesn't write scripts for any specific refill amounts, just that it's for a full year. He said my insurance company determines if they deliver the pens in 1 month supplies or 2, 3, 6 month supplies. I might ask to get a 2 month supply as that would be the sweet spot for me. Having more than 4-6 pens at any one time seems risk especially with the power outages here in PR (although we had a full home generator that can run for 4-6 days straight). I'd just hate to be out of my home traveling and something cuts off the refrigerator without me knowing. -P

The trouble I'm going to have with Humira is aside from having a fistula and perianal abscess, I don't really have many Crohn's symptoms to weigh the effects of the drug. My Humira Rep and GI doctor told me that the only real way I'll know if Humira is helping me is to have a colonscopy which has been scheduled for a year since my last one (so June 2020). Maybe some of my arthritis will get better but I don't have many of the traditional symptoms of Crohn's. This is mainly to treat the fistulas and prevent me from having to deal with that nightmare again. -P

Yes there is one in San Juan but because she is probably going through PR insurance, they are filling it directly in PR. I went to my GI Dr I had for the last 13 years and he prescribed Humira through his office and so they are filling it stateside and delivering it to me in PR where I live. I can see if my insurance will accept the PR location in fulfilling the refills. -P

Patrick - thank you for sharing this experience. I'm moving to Puerto Rico next month. I have enjoyed immensely your other videos about life in Puerto Rico! I'm also on a biologic for rheumatoid arthritis. It's a similar drug to Humira, it also it costs thousands each month and needs to be refrigerated. I've VERY concerned about getting my prescription in PR - how are you managing now? My insurance here in California will be cancelled after next month, and I will need to get PR insurance, but finding out if they cover this drug is overwhelming. Are u covered by insurance in PR? What kind of costs are you covering out of pocket. I changed my plan a few months ago and they wanted 3K at the pharmacy! Currently paying just 250/each 4 weeks. Mind if I ask which insurance? I'll be an act 20/22/60 resident.

That being said, the last few years I have developed really bad heal spurs that have made being active really really difficult. No clue if that’s if from Humira or walking on hard tile floors here in Puerto Rico but it did show up right when I started taking the drug. Just dealing with a recent diagnosis of Crohn's. I've had g.i. issues my whole life, but in the last five years, they have become significantly worse. Numerous doctors dismissed my symptoms as somatized and told me that I was crazy, basically, until one doctor believed me and actually decided to scope me. I had a pretty bad case of ulcerative proctitis at that time. These videos are very helpful. TY. Hope you do well and go into remission on the Humira. This is the best Humira video I've found by far. Most people are all over the place. Bad video quality or don't do the injection properly. I recently was prescribed Humira and had delivery complications of myself with CVS Specialty Pharmacy so watching this with the worries you described hit home for me. Thank you for sharing.

I failed my injection training with Humira at my doctor’s office today. I appreciate this video, because it inspires me to keep persevering. The injection caused a lot of stinging, but I had it packed with ice packs, which probably made it too cold. I’m terrified of injections, but I want to make this work as much as I can. I love working in film, caregiving, and being a beauty influencer. I have a busy life and want to be able to go places and get my Chron’s in remission.

very sorry to hear about your pain! Apparently there is a newer citrate free version of humira which can for some reduce or eliminate the burning or stinging of the injection. It however needs a newer prescription. Try discussing this with your doctor or pharmacist and see if it can help you. (They apparently use a newer formula for the buffer and replace the citrate buffer which might cause pain for some. the active ingredient adalimumab remains the same)

just took my first dose today. The RN told me that having it cool off is very important to reducing pain. If you leave it outside the refrigerator for around 30 minutes, it is supposed too feel better.

I just took my starter pack today! I wish i would have watched this before hand! Your response is exactly how i felt, and spot on. I felt ZERO sting from the needle as well! I actually started chuckling at myself after injection realizing how easy this was about to be! Thank you for the encouraging video!

To add to that crazy delivery story... Humira is made in AbbVie's facility in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. Chron's is awful - hope this works well!
@FStoppers
@FStoppers 5 лет назад
I know! I was hoping I could just get it directly from Puerto Rico since I live here but insurance says otherwise. As long as I'm not on the hook for paying it and I receive it in a timely manner, any spoiled medicine is falling on the pharmacy or my insurance. But yes, there has to be an easier way. -P

The old citrate filled ones were pretty painful. Not horrible but definitely not something you would look forward to. I'm sure the new citrate free is pain free. I switched back to remicade only because humira was not working well for me at the time. Hope Humira works well for you and all the best. Crohn's sucks. Been dealing with it for 30 years but remission last 8.

I’ve had Ulcerative Colitis for 10 years and I’m starting Humira in the coming weeks, after putting it off for years bc I thought biologics were scary. For those commenting on how diet will put you in remission, maybe that’s true for some people but you have to react to the reality of the situation you’re in. Many people’s reality is that their condition is so bad, they’re not able to change their diet until their condition is under control. But most importantly, some people choose quality of life, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve spent the last month in bed bc of my flare up. I missed the end of summer, missing the beginning of climbing season. This isn’t the life I want to live. We’re all going to die at some point, most likely for reasons not even related to our diseases. I personally choose to spend my time here being active and adventurous, not tracking everything I eat and fearing something as simple as taking antibiotics will throw me into another flare up.

Excellent video. A couple of thoughts... I have taken three injections for diabetes (two types of insulin and trulicity) and one of the things that is important is that the meds stay cool. If you are planning on taking the meds within a specific amount of time (14 days, for example), the meds do not need to be refrigerated. This part is important, because if you plan carefully, you don’t necessarily have to refrigerate your meds. I don’t need a biologic (like Humira), but insulin is stupid expensive and so getting this right is important. You are doing the right thing now, by following the instructions exactly (as difficult as that might be). As you get further along and gain experience with the meds, you will be able to plan your travel and your dosages more precisely without refrigeration. Traveling with meds (and I still have to travel with 12 medications and 1 injectable) is challenging but not impossible. It’s a matter of planning and in my case, I no longer have to take the insulin (had a gastric bypass which put my diabetes in remission), I don’t have to worry about refrigeration. Getting to a place in which you can carry your meds effectively (and minimally) will be important. However, for now, getting it right is the important consideration and you are exactly on track. While your videos are not photography related, they are important because there are people who have Crohn’s (I am close to a person who has it) and those who have to take injections need to get over the fear of taking them. As you discovered, it isn’t as bad some will claim, but still an injection is an injection. Well done!

@FStoppers
@FStoppers 5 лет назад
1/25th or 1/30th probably. -P
@KennyRamasawmy
@KennyRamasawmy 5 лет назад
Why
@FStoppers
@FStoppers 5 лет назад
When filming video, you typically want a slower shutter speed to introduce a natural motion blur to your footage. Many videographers like to use the "180 shutter rule" which is essentially 2x your frame rate. We release all our videos at 24fps so the 180 rule would mean using a shutter of 1/48 but that gets rounded up to 1/50th. This is an acceptable shutter because it adds a minimal amount of motion blur that makes the footage look smooth to the human eye. We often shoot a little slower because the added motion blur isn't easily noticed, and it gives us another stop of exposure allowing us to keep our ISO lower because we film on GH5 cameras that aren't as great in ISO performance as full frame cameras. To be honest, 99% of the population can't tell the difference between shutter speeds especially with content that has very little motion (like interviews and studio shots). It only makes a huge difference with fast moving subjects where you would expect to see some motion blur and not a sharp image on every frame. -P
