Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyongo has backgrounds in Political Economy and Urban/Rural economics or planning and was once a planning minister in Kenya . Together with his Later Elder Brother Pathologist Prof Aggrey Omondi Nyongo they were top students at Kenya's Premier Alliance High School . Prof Peter Anyang Nyongo would top his class at Makerere University where he was Guild president, like Uganda Constitutional and Justice Minister Robert Mao and at University of Chicago where he completed his MA, Phd in Political Science .

Norbert Mao of Uganda (Nilotic Luo-Acholi and Bantu Banyankole of Uganda) was chief guest in Kisumu professional Nilotic Luo Lawyers annual caucus in 2024 .

Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang Nyongo has taught at University of Chicago(President Obama also taught at University of Chicago and his Wife Michelle Obama was Administrator also at same university) . Prof Anyang Nyongo also taught at the National University in Mexico (his daughter Actress LUPITA NYONGO born Mexico) where he was exiled by the Dictatorship of Daniel Moi of Kenya . He also taught at University of Nairobi,Kenya and University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia .

Most recently also Asian Japanese and Chinese investors are present in Kisumu and to a lesser extent Kenyan Arabs . Other Kenyan ethnic groups including the neighboring Kisii(Abagusii), Kuria(Abakuria) and Luhya(Abaluhya) are domiciled in Kisumu .

​@@ytrade469 The population isn't less. The roads are wider & the planning is much better. Kisumu is planned differently from other towns in Kenya where the bus stage is outside the CBD & the town isn't built along one highway.

@@ugconnect after kisumu, i would recommend you visit SIAYA the original home land to the former USA president OBAMA. it is not far from kisumu according to what i can see in the kenyan map

I have suggested that you visit Siaya county where the former USA president originally comes from its 2hr drive from kisumu town. Then since Tanzania is near, i would also recommend that you visit Migori county still within Luo land in the boarder of kenya and Tanzania which might be your rout to Tanzanian vlogs

I know you're hyping😅 it up but there's no way it'll have more than Nairobi....Nairobi already has 3 of the largest Universities in K3nya..UON, Kenyatta U, anad JKUAT, among others land argest referral hospitals etc

A famous Kenya soccer Gor Mahia midfielder Tim Ayieko moved with his family to Uganda and represented Uganda Cranes . His parents worked and lived in Kampala . During the reign of Idi Amin they moved back to Kenya where he signed up for Gor Mahia and played alongside another Ugandan Abbey Nassur , a Nuba . The Nubians and Luo have historical ties from Sudan,Uganda and Kenya . In Kenya they are also found in Kisumu,Meru,Nakuru and Kendu Bay etc .

Uganda cranes has been coached by Nilotic Luo such as Tim Ayieko ,Polly Ouma and David Otti . Also Tim Ayieko's brother Phillip Omondi played for the cranes and a stadium in Kampala Uganda named after him . There is a famous Uganda/Kenya Journalist called CHARLES ONYANGO-OBBO who is LUO-JOPADHOLA and has been critical of YOWERI MUSEVENI'S REGIME .

Branches of Luo-Union were spread across East, Central, North/North East Africa including in Tanzania Dar-es-salaam, Mwanza, Musoma, Bukoba etc In Uganda , Kampala, Jinja, Lira, Kitgum, Tororo, Aura etc In Sudan Khartoum, Bar el Ghazal, Juba etc In Egypt Abu Simbel, Aegan, Cairo, In Ethiopia Gambella, Addis Ababa etc In Kenya Mombasa, Kisumu, Nairobi, In Zanzibar etc , In Congo Bunia, Beni, Butembo, Kinshasa etc .

There is a small museum in Kisumu on the history and also there is a museum of Luo history in Pakwach(Ker Panyimur Kwonga Chiefdom in Jonam County of Pakwach district) Uganda . Also Makerere University in Uganda and University of Nairobi Kenya documents Luo History in addition to the National Archives and National Museum in Nairobi Kenya .

The Luo also participated in Modern Liberation movements in the continent including in Sudan alongside the Nilotic Nuer and Dinka .

In Ethiopia the Luo-Anywaa in Gambella . In Uganda including first Independent Uganda president Milton Obote(There is Obote Road in Kisumu) who was friends with Kenya Nationalist Oginga Odinga . They both attended Uganda's Makerere University and were founders of Kenya's Independence party .

In Congo DRC the Luo-Alur fought alongside Laurent Kabila in Eastern Congo against Mobutu Sese Seko . And the Luo of Tanzania participated in Independence movements first against the Germans then the British .

​@@ugconnectbefore that name Port Florence given to that place, back in the day's it was a trading land between comnities of Nyanza people it used to be called SUMO means berter trade in Luo latter changed to Kisumu because of deferent community alongside Kisumu were doing trade and the mzungu kutoka ulaya came and got involved in that land of Kisumu naming it Port Florence.

The groups around Lake Victoria were historically referenced as Kavirondo Nilotics or the Luo and Kavirondo Bantus or the Luhya(abaluhya), Kuria(abakuria), Kisii(abagusii) and the smaller known Kavirondo(abakavirondo) who were eventually assimilated by the Luo . The kavirondo preceded other Bantu groups in the region . The Luo also assimilated the Bantu Suba, linguistically, socially, culturally and through intermarriages over centuries .

Historically the Nilotic Luo, led by skilled warriors such as Owiny and Lwanda Magere, fought several territorial conflicts with their Nilotic Kalenjin neighbors, particularly the Nandi and Kipsigis groups . Historically Nilotic groups including the Maasai, Turkana, Toposa, Karamoja, Samburu etc had conflicts over grazing land due to their pastoralist lifestyles .

But the Luo like other Nilotic groups were pastoralists but also were primarily river lake Nilotes(like other groups along the Nile valley) with extensive boat-making and fishing cultures due to their Origin in the Nile Valley of Sudan/Lower Egypt . In addition the Luo practiced small scale farming in the past but at a lower level compared to their neighboring Bantu groups who were primarily farmers .

As you can see Kisumu is and has been in the process of development as it’s better today than it was years ago.
