Time has flown by and I've already been at the London School of Economics (LSE) for six weeks! I thought I'd share with you some of my thoughts on my first impressions and experiences so far - we're talking everything from the investment banking/ finance culture, whether LSE is just full of posh private school students, what the social life is like and what the best and worst bits have been so far! I'm really sorry I haven't uploaded for the past couple of weeks, there's been a lot going on but I'm excited to get some more LSE content out for you soon!
I upload roughly once a week, normally on Sunday at 6pm. Be sure to subscribe and turn on that bell notification to hear so you don’t miss it!

LSE was the best time of my life! Graduated with a MSc this year. Hope you're having a wonderful time throughout your academic journey. And please, please, please use the rooftop terraces! The beautiful old library on 6th floor of Old Building + its terrace are always empty. :)

100% agree with the halls selection! "What people you will meet is more important than what your room looks like" that's a top tip for first yrs! I stayed at Urbanest for my first yr, lovely room, stunning view from the top floor, but not quite sociable.

@@ImogenWhite I studied International History, and finished in 2018. Your video randomly came up on my recommendations feed, and I wondered how you would see it. Concerning your German studies, I’m assuming you’re doing it as an outside option? I had a friend who studied Mandarin for the entire time we were there. I swear, he spent more time doing Mandarin than history. If you’re at all interested, and you have the option or space for it on your timetable, would recommend the literature modules. I’m assuming reading week is still a thing? Finally, fuck LSE100

Hii this video is very comprehensive thank you! I got offers from LSE and Warwick to study economics and philosophy but I am debating which one to choose as both have pros and cons. What will you advise?
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite 3 года назад
Oooh that's an interesting decision, personally I would go for LSE as econ at LSE definitely has the better reputation. However, reputation isn't everything and they're very different universities - Warwick is campus and outside of London whereas LSE is certainly a city university and has a very different vibe. I think it really depends on what you want from your uni experience - Warwick probably would have a better social life but the career prospects might be slightly better from LSE. Sorry that's not one conclusive answer but hopefully that helps a bit - if you have anymore specific questions about LSE feel free to reply on here/ DM me on instagram (@immy.white) !!

Nonononono, as a 2nd yr BSc. Econ student, I guarantee you that I don't want to work in investment banking/finance in the future, but I believe there is a quite large portion from our department would want to work in finance, but the peer pressure is real. For the math based subjects, no social like may be true? but definitely depends on different people, for example, ppl from econ dept may be too busy to prepare for spring week application to socialize with others.
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite 3 года назад
Ahaha Bess! Yeah I was talking more generally but it's interesting to hear you're not wanting to go into investment banking/finance. If you don't mind me asking what do you want to do post uni? I guess also being first year I haven't had experience of the other years where the workload may be tougher and people may be less keen to socialise. Thanks for your comment, it's really interesting to hear from other LSE students!!

@@ImogenWhite Hi! To be honest, because I'm not really interested in the conventional jobs what econ students do after graduation (ie. investment banking/ consulting), there are not many choices left (well, there actually are, but compare to ib/consulting, there are less alumni doing those jobs, the voices are definitely less loud). What i am having in mind now is to apply for master and probably phd, and I want to be a professor in Econ in the future. :))

That's so exciting Sarah! I have done a series of accommodation videos, one of which features a single room at Bankside so that should help to give an idea of the vibe but Bankside is considered to be the most 'party' halls I would say - lots of the people there are up for a good night out!

What's your take on Urbanest Westminster vs Urbanest King's Cross? Also, how does Urbanest compare to Garden Halls?
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite 3 года назад
Urbanest Westminster and Kings Cross are quite similar. I've actually done an accommodation series which includes looking round Urbanest Westminster and Garden Halls so you can compare them. As they aren't LSE only halls they do tend to be slightly less social or at least that's what I've heard from other people!
@ritojeetbasu1384
@ritojeetbasu1384 3 года назад
For students who commute from home and not from halls, how drastically does the experience change? Since LSE doesn't have a proper campus I would imagine that it would be much tougher to make friends for people living at home as they will only be able to meet people on their course. Any opinion on this would be great! Thanks Imogen :D
@ImogenWhite
@ImogenWhite 3 года назад
Hi Ritojeet, I don't know many students who commute yet so maybe that answers your question in part as it probably is harder for them to make friends. However, at the moment we're all online so everyone is a bit disconnected. In September the current plan is that I will live at home so maybe I'll be able to give you a better answer then!! Hope that kind of helps for now!
