Thanks for covering our game, Derek! I've been a fan of your channel for a long time and seeing our game being featured by you is really awesome. As you said, there are still some bugs and rough edges, such as skipping dialogues, balance and other issues, that we are fixing for the release version later this year. Please look forward to more news in the coming months!
This is my favorite theme and aesthetic! Looking forward to it. Graphics are simple, compared to some modern games, but clearly has good artistic vision. Doesn't look amateur like the endless farming sims shoveled out. Good luck pushing it over the finish line.
Aw man! I've been tied up at work all day, and seeing a message from you here brightens my day. I'm absolutely looking forward to future developments! Good luck!
Hey Derek! I've been watching your stuff for like 5 years now, and I keep coming back because you have really similar taste to what I enjoy in JRPGs. You just put ANOTHER game in my radar haha this one looks super cool I really like the dogfight aspect. Thanks for shining a light on this project!
"Having to read the subtitles can cause you to miss what's happening in the cinematic cut-scenes." [shows two people sitting on a chair facing forward] 👍 If you're any kind of old-school anime fan this won't be an issue. You can adapt pretty easily. Having something, even a computer AI voice, that can read the subtitles for you might help with people who have dyslexia or some visual impairment though.
I was in grad school at the release of Skies of Arcadia and never got back to finishing it. It was a little slow so maybe a spiritual successor is the way to go. Thanks for the preview!
The turn based dog fighting looks fun, I'm hoping there is some hand to hand though as a bit of a changeup from time to time. I also like that this is getting a physical console release for Switch and PS5! I'm always unsure with projects like this how much faith to put in them. To me it really doesnt seem like it will even touch the depth and interest of a SoA but the fact something is even being attempted has had my eye on this for months now. Had no idea there was a demo available. Thanks for putting a spotlight on the game, I'm sure a number of bugs will be course corrected before launch as this looks like a neat pallette cleanser RPG to play between bigger beefier titles. You're the best Derek!
The visuals remind me a lot of Jeanne Darc, but definitely also fits that dreamcast/gamecube vibe. The air combat clips also give me vibes of Skies meets Panzer Dragoon Saga.
Wow, fantastic coverage on another indie gem. I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this one. The Skies of Arcadia influences are certainly there, which is incredible because I absolutely adore that game and consider it my favorite game on Dreamcast. But, I do agree with Derek that the art style does seem to have a lot in common with Wind Waker - which is also fantastic. In addition, I'm getting some Rodea the Sky Solider and Solatorobo: Red the Hunter vibes as well. Put all of that together and things are shaping up to be quite the interesting JRPG treat.
Personally I don't think this "feels" like Skies of Arcadia at all. Not sure why everyone is tying to compare it. Just because they both have air ships? I still like it though!
Yeah, I think the Sky Islands and such are probably inspired by it, but it definitely feels like its own game, and plays pretty differently from what we've seen so far. I wanted to be sure not to refer to this game as a 'spiritual successor' in today's video because that doesn't seem like what they were aiming for, per se.
>To me< Glenn's whole design smacks of ripping off Vyse, to be honest, and that was already a major put off when I saw the trailer. Otherwise, the look of this game feels far too similar to the anime Last Exile (in which both series have young and aspiring vanship pilots), and that Magnus character looks a bit too similar to Premier Luscinia Hāfez from season 2 of that. So as far as I've seen having watched different videos and read articles about this, it lacks in originality and instead seems to rip these titles off. I'm also not a fan of the Windwaker animation style. I'd much rather see a remaster of Skies of Arcadia with some QOL adjustments, even though I love the original just as it is.
