Have you ever wondered what it would look like if you crossed your favorite spaceship from buck Rogers with a classic early jet age design and your favorite Marvin the Martian rocket ship? Today we find out! If you know, Josh, you know his love for crazy cartoony designs that not only are fun to look at, but also fly. In all of joshes designs, he’s never designed a jet. That’s today’s challenge! Josh takes his favorite childhood memories and combines them with early aviation to create the new FT Retro Rocket. With a bunch of unanswered questions, watch as this retro design goes from a concept to a reality that anyone can build and fly. With each success, the ideas and chaos grow until the vision of this new model are complete. The FT retro rocket is now available in our store with all the great new features created from this video. After all, Josh is the spirit of Flite Test, when he loses inspiration, the videos feel more dull. It was awesome seeing him find inspiration again with the EDF jets, and the episode felt like the old FT episodes where they would always build something new and have a blast with it. Good job on the design Josh, wishing you more inspiration for the future creations!

Brings back memories of the "Old Days", and Buck Rogers design-era! Thanks Josh, for the memories and ALL you do for the Flying Community. I've built most of the Adams Foam Board-type of planes you offer in plans, and if it wasn't for You and the Flite Test Team, I never would have even tried R/C Planes.

Just had a brainstorm. FPV Bomb Drop Golf. Take off from the tee, whatever the distance to the hole is the altitude you must achieve. Drop as close to the flag as you can. Group of 4, two 2-man teams. Pilot and short game golfer. 4 holes, after 2 you switch. Switch back for each playoff hole, if no winner after 4. We don't DRIVE the ball, we DROP the ball! 😁 hehe Whadaya think?? (Apologies if you've already done this.)

I loved this video! Awesome plane! Looked like a blast to fly. That thrust vectoring was hilarious to watch. This was also the first time i shared a FliteTest video with one of my kids, who is only 18 months. She was so interested and wanted to watch. After watching you guys for over 10 years, that was a very special moment. Keep up the good work and thanks for the amazing content. Also, hope you feel better Josh.

@@FliteTest I visited your place when I went there in 2021 and missed ALL of you main guys. Got pics though never visited the flight field. I was really bummed to not meet Josh or anyone else that I see on YT. But it was CV19 season, so was amazed we even got to see your place. I'm self employed which means I don't have vacations. UGH!!!!! It may be another 7 years if I'm lucky, but if I get to go back there before then, you will ALWAYS be on my bucket list for EVERY visit!!!! I almost feel you are all family to me sharing such a passion for flight. Pray for my success so that I may be able to retire, maybe not at the lake, but close by. I actually want a big enough property to have my own field, but if not then live close enough to visit you often!

@@FliteTest My brother lives close to me in AZ, but he gets there way more often than I do. He brought me some waterproof foam board to make some of your planes from. My nephew Caleb was with him there as well. He has since learned to fly RC. You guys are awesome. I remember your early videos WAY before you got popular and thought you were nutz then. LOL The butane afterburner was one of my favorites!!! That's going way back. Don't even know if you were called flitetest back then. I think it was before the gremlin logo. LOL Great times!!

Some of us have way too much experience extracting planes from that willow tree. We should have filmed the recovery using the half a fishing rod Mikey brought us. I almost died. Really. You guys were out at Vans and poor Jen had to deal with us. LOLOL!!!!!

I feel ya on the age thing, im the same age same problems, but i refuse to give up my POP! i wasn't allowed any candy or nothing, chips pop nothing as a kid, made me way to hyper, i got making up to do... LOL as for the plane, since you're making a bunch of them, ADD PAINT BALL GUNS!

It would be interesting to see you guys try designing a "high-bypass" EDF, where you have the small motor and a small blade inside the duct, but then you also have that big fan on the front giving you a large volume of push.

Which 6S 2200 pack are you using for the EDF? 6S batteries & an 80a ESC are HEAVY, but they work just fine with this model? Or, can I run the EDF on a lighter 4S & ESC? Thanks.

We use a series connector it takes to 2200 3cells and makes it a 2200 6cell. We’re going to have an adapter that will be available in the store very soon for that. You can also have a great success from a 2200 five cell. Still office great power. You’ll need to use a different EDF than what we have in the store to go to 4cell.

To find the CG, you should build a stand with a post about 1" diameter sticking straight up. Then, setting the aircraft on the post, you can move it around until you find your center of gravity. Repeat the process if you're going to use trim weights.
